Title: Would like to sell a Casascius Bitcoin. Looking for advice.
Post by: ViciousWhispers on December 11, 2020, 03:02:44 AM
Hello all.

I have owned a Casascius Bitcoin I bought from a friend for a long time.  He was really into Bitcoins and I was interested to, so I bought one from him and have kept it to this day.  It was a cool collectable and Bitcoin wasn't worth as much then.  I'd like to sell it, but am unsure of the best way to go about it.  I searched around online and saw recommendations for this site.  Hope you can all help point me in the right direction.

Here's a pic of the front.

EDIT:  forgot to upload the other picture and link.

I assume it would be safe to post a picture of the back as well?  It's never been used or exchanged in anyway.
It has unfortunately developed a bit of tarnish on it.

Thanks all,

Post a picture of both sides next to a piece of paper with your username and the date on it. Because you are a newbie, people will want to go through an escrow (ie. minerjones). Escrow fee is 1%, usually buyer pays, sometimes seller splits cost with them. Start the Auction at 1BTC for a casascius silver I would usually expect around 1.3 - 1.4BTC, but not sure how the tarnish would affect the price for this one.

Good luck!

Escrow means buyer pays the escrow agent, once they have the btc, they tell you to post it to escrow, once it arrives escrow sends you the btc, and posts the coin to the buyer.

From what I've seen tarnish has very little impact on price, though it's off a small sample set as not many seem to come up. I've only seen tarnish on raw sales. Curious if that would hold for graded/slabbed coins w/ tarnish as well.

The tarnish should not come into play as far as grading goes.  The milk spotting should not either as this coin shows a fair amount as well.  Nicks, dings and imperfections go into the grade.  However, if the coins had no dings etc, I believe the milk spotting and tarnish would keep it from a perfect 70.  I will find out for sure later today when I speak to the head grader at ICG.

Good luck with your sale and be smart, use escrow!

All comment above was reliable. Always check the trust rating of the user that you will going to deal. If you didn't know the current market value, try to Auction it with a face value starting price. Never accept an offer through unless the offer is from a trusted bitcointalk user.

Always use escrow. Escrow is a must in this forum especially when you are dealing a huge amount of money. You can check the list of trusted escrow here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2439910.0

Good luck!

As others have stated whatever you do offer escrow for your sale utilizing a trusted escrow here.

Also you have to choose how you want to sell your coin.  There are 2 main ways these coins get sold here.  Straight sale price or an auction.  If you would like to get a specific price for your coin offer it for sale at that price.  Or if you are unsure of what you want to get for it, you can auction the coin.  Check other auction listing here before you set up an auction so you can see how its done here.  Plenty of examples in these first couple of pages.

Good luck with your sale.
