Just know that bitcoin is not for any country, it is for the world and only for the people that are buying and making use of it. Bitcoin is completely decentralized in its entirety and completely open source. Even the creator, Satoshi Nakamoto do not have any control over bitcoin while governments and other central bodies do not have control over bitcoin, not to comment of it becoming the currency of some particular countries. Even, China mining most amount of bitcoin, but people and organizations from another country are buying it. Bitcoin can not be centralized but remain decentralized, what can make it to become centralized will not happen but results into hardfork while bitcoin will remain being bitcoin.

Certain countries using Bitcoin won't really directly make Bitcoin more or less decentralized.

With that said, Bitcoin as a country's currency? Very very unlikely especially for the bigger more established countries. Bitcoin as one of the accepted payment currencies along with the country's local currency? Sure.

I know we all believe that Bitcoin can do such incredible things and being a currency for a certain country could be possible if that countries economy is failing and the only answer was an online transaction with Bitcoin, in my opinion, it could be possible but Bitcoin can not become that countries official currency.

Bitcoin can not be stuck in 1 country only it is free for all countries to be legalized and be used.

Decentralization has nothing to do with that.

Bitcoin is decentralized because there is no single point of failure. You cannot shut down the network attacking one person, or one company.
Bitcoin is decentralized because nobody owns the code. There is no single person who says what miners or developers should do.
Bitcoin is decentralized because there are thousands of full nodes. Anyone can be a full node.
And so on.

if a country decides to use it as a national currency, none of those things will change.
However, bitcoin the **only** currency was never bitcoin goal. Bitcoin is an alternative to the fiat system, but they are not competing. Both can coexist.

Simply realize that bitcoin isn't for any nation, it is for the world and just for the individuals that are purchasing and utilizing it. Bitcoin is totally decentralized completely and totally open-source. Indeed, even the maker, Satoshi Nakamoto doesn't have any command over bitcoin while governments and other focal bodies don't have authority over bitcoin, not to remark on it turning into the cash of some specific nations. Indeed, China mining most measures of bitcoin, yet individuals and associations from another nation are getting it. Bitcoin can not be unified yet stay decentralized, what can cause it to become brought together won't occur however results in hardfork while bitcoin will stay to be bitcoin.

Most countries actually use their individual fiat as a way to regulate their economy and to try to enact favourable policies through monetary controls. Using Bitcoin as their primary currency could defeat the purpose unless they could amass enough Bitcoin to be able to make their economy work effectively.

Some of the failed state has used other countries' fiat as a way to transact and I imagine that could be possible with Bitcoin as well. But for it to work, it isn't as easy as it seems.

Bitcoin at its current state being used as an official currency? Not going to happen. Anyone that says that it is possible is actually being delusional. Look at all the current problems bitcoin has. At this current stage, people aren't using it as a currency for regular transaction, let alone a nation. The fee and waiting time is what making people not to use it as a currency. Hence people find it more suitable to use it as a form of investment due to its store of value.
A country may eventually make their own centralized crypto currencies though. There is no denying to that.

No country can use Bitcoin as a currency becasue of it nature, it is well decentralized, we'll know the technology came into the world to give freedom to the oppressed and for any country to claim Bitcoin as it currency won't be possible. But countries can adopt this said Bitcoin as a currency and also as payment method which is been use for. There are countries that now accept Bitcoin as payment method and may consider it to be country accepted currency.

If it is used as a means of payment in another country (buying / paying for something with bitcoin), I don't think so. Because several countries have banned the use of cryptocurrency as currency. Also, not many shops or merchants accept bitcoin as a means of payment.

However, if used to exchange FIAT, of course you can. I think every country has an exchange that will convert bitcoin to their national currency such as USD, KRW, IDR and others.

I do not think that Bitcoin will be used as an official currency of a country. We all know that the government will always want to have a grasp of everything so Bitcoin being known as decentralized won't be attractive to the authority to use as their national currency.  Even with the label of being an alternative currency, Bitcoin will always be a personal option but will never be a country's official alternative currency for the same reason why it won't be use as national currency of a country.

This right here.
Legal tenders are currencies accepted by that country or jurisdiction as the means of exchange and one of its main qualities is the ability of the government to regulate it; control money printing and operate the banking system. This is not possible with Bitcoin, the country would not control it as it is not centralized and they cannot account for it when it is used for trades in other countries. It's sort of like accepting to use something virtually every other nation is using anyways.

While the idea sounds interesting, it is not practical, at least not in the way current societies are run.

Some of the failed state has used other countries' fiat as a way to transact and I imagine that could be possible with Bitcoin as well. But for it to work, it isn't as easy as it seems.
Correct me if I'm wrong but when countries do this they do not directly adopt fiats of other nations but rather create their currency system which ideally mirrors that of the other country. So their fiat value would depend on the value of the original currency, such as what we have with the Sudanese Pounds. However, as with the SDG, internal economic crisis could influence the value of the currency and it could become devalued against its parent currency.

Mr. Robot TV show explores this topic a bit, with China adopting Bitcoin while the US adopts a centralized Libra-like cryptocurrency. I think a country with a catastrophic economic collapse could adopt Bitcoin if its volatility is lower than the volatility of their local fiat. However, there would be many problems with that. For one, the technical capability of accepting Bitcoin everywhere can be challenging. But more importantly, this would put such a big load on Blockchain that transaction fees would spike and transactions would get stuck. So there would be serious challenges with fully transferring to Bitcoin on such a scale.

See, it's impossible for  one country to manage a btc or inherit it as a source of everything and if it happens btc is in control of such particular country and is no longer a decentralized currency, and it's obvious that many countries are using bitcoin as a means of payment due to how influential bitcoin it, but that really means that such country have a control over it's regulations.

Highly unlikely. Bitcoin’s specifications do not allow for easier alterations on supply, which has been the primary tool/feature used by governments to stimulate their economy or to adjust anything that is related to the economy one way or another, with the involvement of change in money supply. Plus, it would not do bitcoin any favor as this means more centralization due to regulations and such.

You probably wanted to ask if Bitcoin could be used as a national currency in some country.
I don't think that is possible because Bitcoin is not centralised currency and I don't think that any country would like to have economy that is dependent on volatile, limited and unregulated currency. So, no, that will not happen
Besides Bitcoin is not meant to be dedicated just to one country.

I think it's more of a stopgap measures adopted by them. For Zimbabwe, I'm aware that they adopted the other currencies to transact during the period of hyperinflation. They did adopt a new currency system which, I don't really think worked because the crux of the problem doesn't exactly lie on their currency but with the government.

Perhaps, there's an argument to be made for the people in these situations, when the state fails it's functions.

I seriously doubt that @OP. I don't see a way Bitcoin can become a nations currency no, it won't happen. A country's currency is an ID of that country or nation and as such, it would feel so wrong having Bitcoin tied to a single nation. It won't attain that universal nature of it and it would be very much a way of centralizing the idea of Bitcoin which puts it in check or under control and Bitcoin is supposed to be a decentralized network so, it would be going against the ideas that surrounds Bitcoin.

Bitcoin can definitely be used as a currency in nations, to put it rightly, bitcoin is already in use in several parts of the world to pay for services, pay for goods on msme platforms and lots more. Even vpn platforms accept bitcoin as a means of payment too.

What I doubt is a country adopting it as an official currency. Nations will prefer to have their own centralized token.

No if under-developed countries dumps their currency to favor the use of Bitcoin, the country may not have successful eradicate monetary problems, it might tackle/fix one but give rise/birth a new problem to the under-developed countries, Bitcoin has not paper/physical appearance, should any country adopt Bitcoin as principal currency they might change things, about -Bitcoin within their country-

Everyone could use Bitcoin so it is up to the people if they would want to use it like that but I don't think that their government would take it lightly.
To be honest Bitcoin has becoming centralized for the past few years KYC and other restriction that would cause the users to submit their personal identity just to use some platform for crypto currency.
We have been moving slowly and becoming centralized again giving up our privacy so we could use their system or platform.

Any country can decide to use Bitcoin as a local currency. Bitcoin is decentralized since its inception and forever.
Right now it is important that more people join Bitcoin because there will be important use cases.
This time was propitious for us to realize that in the face of the crisis we must work more in the development of new technologies and that they will contribute to the better performance of the economy in its role in safeguarding the destinies of nations.

Indeed as I stated in my previous reply, Bitcoin can be a personal option to use as currency but the government won't render it as an alternative currency next to their national money due to the fact that they cannot control the flow of BTC.  They can implement control on the third party services but never on the core chain of Bitcoin.  As we all know the government hates and fears those that they cannot control completely so them letting people use BTC in their country and acknowledging BTC as an asset or legal tender or mode of payment but not as an alternative or main currency is just an act of taking advantage of the popularity of BTC and to take profit from it. And it is obvious that this kind of adoption is half-hearted.

I haven't seen it honestly, most people who know bitcoin now just using bitcoin as an investment place, yeah I rarely see it since the fee transaction is getting high right now, so many people will use money fiat only for their transaction.

Moreover with a country, it'll be weird if there is a country that uses bitcoin as a main of payment system and they abandoned money fiat, it will be really weird. You have to know that many countries still ban bitcoin especially for a payment system, even there are some countries that applies a rule where if the people use the payment system with bitcoin or they use bitcoin for anything, the government does not hesitate to give punishment for them.

Bitcoin will definitely never be used as the main currency in any country.  This is impossible neither from the point of view of the nature of bitcoin, nor from the point of view of the tasks and functions of the state.  The national currency of the state should be a reflection of the value of material assets that can be in the civil circulation of the country.  In this regard, Bitcoin has a completely different nature and cannot be associated with the economy of any state.  And its high price volatility does not allow its use as the main currency of the state.

It's totally impossible to see such thing happen. One reason of why bitcoin is getting famous everyday is because of the decentralization of bitcoin. because it's not getting related to any country or organization, so none can get control over it. But, if any country wants to use crypto currency as their official currency I guess they must create a new coin with a new blockchain for themselves.

I will tell you that this is impossible, since the national currency is subject to control, that is, centralization, and bitcoin positions itself as a decentralized cryptocurrency that is regulated by the community and that is why bitcoin cannot be the national currency

The idea of bitcoin becoming the country currency isn’t going to be very simple because bitcoin is a decentralized currency and most bitcoin enthusiasts are passionate about bitcoin trade and investment. Bitcoin is an electronic currency and cannot be used without a digital wallet so I guess everyone in the country must learn how to use bitcoin, bitcoin shouldn’t be forced on anyone.

Bitcoin is for the world but if any country choose to use it as one of its major currency, then it’s good and a welcome development to the bitcoin community because many countries government are still fighting against bitcoin technology and restricting its citizens to use bitcoin by implementing unfavorable charges for bitcoin users.

One way or another, everything will depend on the government, which, first of all, must decide not only on plans to reform the country's economic and financial system, but also on the desire to carry it out. The fact is that national currencies are depreciating and it is no longer a secret for anyone that fiat currencies have exhausted their capabilities and only harm society, while providing an opportunity for malicious manipulation by the government.

That's too much of an expectation. Being used as a currency is already a thing but for a country to use it as its own currency on daily transactions is already something. Keep in mind how decentralisation affects the acceptance of this technology. A currency to be used in a country or across countries is something which is accepted by other countries or is something recognize by the majority and not merely a currency which is just popular. Try to compare the characteristics of Bitcoin to fiat currencies. There are indeed advantages of Bitcoin over fiat but still, it is lacking in aspects which are more important such as having no risk of putting your "all" into it as well as being supported by governments, which are characteristics under regulation. So maybe it would be impossible for not only Bitcoin but to this industry in general to achieve such acceptance even in the future.

Personally, i don't see any reason while other countries will choose to make or use Bitcoin as their sole local currency becasue Bitcoin is decentralized, no one has control over it. Basically, no government will ever think about this becasue they all want powers to oppress the people which Bitcoin won't give to any country that accept it as a currency. Moreover, Bitcoin as a payment method can be use by country alongside the country fiat currency and still stand as a decentralized coin.

I believe that this type of topics has been started even before. My opinion is that Bitcoin and the cryptocurrency in general is not for all country. As a matter of fact, there are several countries that avoid and ban cryptocurrencies. Thus, these cannot be really seen as a country’s currency considering that currencies are parts of culture or even under a global union. Although I agree that this can be used alongside with the country’s flat currency, especially with the new normal during and after this pandemic.

btc is currently being used now as every others country's alternative currency next to thier fiat or whatever currency they have because btc was only digitally made and works on This environment.

Every other country can declare regulation and other rules to deform Bitcoin but still Bitcoin is universally remain as decentralized . that's the goodness of btc because no one can totally own and consume it's powers but all have an equall use  towards it .

Bitcoin right now in its very early stage of development. We can say more than ten years have crossed from its day of existence. By the same time it hasn't turned out to be the real-time currency as USD or Euro. This requires more time, and bitcoin to be any country's currency isn't likely to happen in the near future. Already more countries support bitcoin, but the real-time usage is very low compared to the traditional currency used around.

Why would any country put their national currency aside and make bitcoin their official currency instead unless that is that they already have most of the coin supply? (they need to own the majority of the hashrate too)

It doesn't make sense.

The whole point of having a national currency is to have the full control over it.

It's possible for a country to adopt bitcoin during political turmoil.

Like if you had a country ruled by a government that many people are opposing, a divided country where the government is fighting to stay in power. In such scenario the rebels could choose to use a different currency that is not controlled by the ones they're fighting.

This is only one of many possibilities.

We all know that nothing's impossible. However, making bitcoin as the sole currency of a country is, somewhat, not likely to happen. We all know that there are governments that consider even the use of bitcoin illegal. And we can assume that they only want what they can control. With the decentralized nature of bitcoin, I don't think they'll make it as their currency. An alternative way of paying or as an alternative currency is more probable.

That will be too early to decide now when the Government is bringing a lot of regulation across the crypto space. Using it as a currency means that there will be no more power to print Fiat at will, no central control and everybody will be in the custody of their finances. No frozen of an account by court rule and everybody will just be in financial freedom. That is how it suppose to be, but those who are power greedy will NEVER allow that to see the break of the day

in my opinion  bitcoins would never be considered a countries main currency , why  would any country want to make a crypto currency that too that has a fluctuating value as their main currency.
if that happens the governing body of the country would find a hard time tracing the transaction and many more problems  that they would have to find solutions first.
it may be accepted as a mode of payment in some countries but not as primary currency.

In my opinion it is impossible for Bitcoin to be used as a country's currency, because Bitcoin is decentralized which is against
the government which wants to centralize currency. Because after all Bitcoin will always be a decentralized currency that cannot be
controlled by anyone. This is the reason why Bitcoin cannot be used as a country's currency.

When comparing the properties of Bitcoin and the currencies they are using, Bitcoin is clearly not stable in value compared to the currencies of different countries. So it will not consider as other country currency.
I think we don't have to compare between bitcoin and other currencies because it will be different. The government is not easy to use bitcoin as the currency because they can not control it directly. In some countries, bitcoin can be used for the payment system, but not as a replacement for the currencies. It will better for bitcoin to be beside the currencies, so people don't have to use fiat money only to the payment system because they have another option to pay.

It is possible but the probability of that idea happening is still low. Using a digital currency requires that every citizen within that country must be knowledgeable and must know the situation that they will transition into since it would require a large number of citizen that needs to be using a single type of transaction. Cryptocurrencies always present the opportunities that would really help humanity to have a better life and we should grab it while we still can

Most nations really utilize their person fiat as a way to control their economy and to undertake to order ideal arrangements through financial controls. Utilizing Bitcoin as their essential cash seem overcome the reason unless they may hoard sufficient Bitcoin to be able to form their economy work effectively. Some of the fizzled state has utilized other countries' fiat as a way to execute and I envision that might be conceivable with Bitcoin.

Just imagine if starting today many countries leave conventional currencies and switch to bitcoin, all countries in the world will use it because of the convenience and adventages of bitcoin. but it will be difficult to happen considering that not all countries accept the presence of bitcoin, maybe the people have used bitcoin but the country has not accepted it if its used for transactions anytime and anywhere.

Yes, that's all true. For these reasons, bitcoin will never be used by governments as the main currency. The economy of any state can exist, be planned and developed on the basis of national money, which should be issued in the amount of all goods in circulation. How to plan the economy of the state, sell goods and provide services, if the day before yesterday the price of bitcoin was $ 40,000, yesterday $ 30,000, and today $ 35,000. However, this is only one of the purely technical reasons, and there are a lot of them.

Can Bitcoin ever be use as other country currency and it will still maintain it decentralized digital currency?

The governments prefer to have their own national currencies, so that they can print banknotes whenever there is a need. With the controlled supply principle of Bitcoin, that is not possible. Some of the countries have allowed foreign currencies to be used within their jurisdiction on extremely rare occasions (an example is that of Zimbabwe after the Zimbabwe Dollar was withdrawn), but in normal circumstances they will not allow that.

Bitcoin can be used as a country's currency but if only if the government will allow that to happen and accept it's volatile and decentralized nature. Unfortunately governments don't allow such thing to happen because we all know they want everything on the spot, I mean in controlled

Sure, but it relies on the values of its leaders as well as the choice of a majority if its people. In doing so, in the distribution of its resources represented by the cryptocurrency it choose, a country may be able to enhance transactional transparency.

IMHO, I believe it is not, because the government won't allow it to happen anyway how can you fit the centralized governance to the decentralized functions of Bitcoin, it's too complicated, thats, why both systems are, can co-exist without interfering with each other, with the current set up the government will remain using its traditional fiat or somehow they want to build CBDC or the digital version of its currency.

I think it is impossible for Bitcoin to become the main currency of one country because it oppose the idea of the centralized government. They could use it as an alternative currency though but mainly use it, no it would mess up the current monetary system. Besides, the transaction speed and fees would also matter or could be a problem upon using Bitcoin as a country currency. Bitcoin was decentralized, meaning everyone has no control over it and the government won't allow these things to fully operate without them managing it.

As long as bitcoin is exchangable for fiat currencies any goverment can switch to using it as its official currency and use it for daily buy and sell transactions and i think that will be a factor for bitcoin growth and will only have a positive impact on the price so it should solve the volatility issue and prevent people from losing money.

Despite its well known classification as a “cryptocurrency,” Bitcoin cannot be a currency because it has intrinsic value. While some would argue against it, the resources spent to issue new units ensure that, unlike fiat currency, Bitcoins cannot be created out of thin air.

I think there isn't any country willing to take the risk of adopting bitcoin as national currency. The economy would be very volatile and unstable. I doubt a country could afford losing 30%-50% of its currency price in just one day, even the smallest ones. Every country needs a stable currency to keep the economy and citizens lives smooth.
Maybe bitcoin can be useful in crisis times for some countries, but not sustainable on long run from a collective perspective.

Bitcoin is a digital currency for the world not just a country it’s nature of being decentralized will not be changed to becoming centralized. Many people are yet to understand that. Bitcoin was created for the purpose of digital trade, selling and for other investment not even China that mines the highest amount of bitcoin can use bitcoin just for themselves. Bitcoin can be used alongside with the country’s local currency for some big countries in the world.

Bitcoin cannot replace any country's traditional currency. It is just good to have this new option which is the cryptocurrency. Also, not every country accept this kind of crypto transactions although it exist to be the common currency worldwide. I am just glad that here in the Philippines it is legal so we are free to explore the crypto world.

This is really a different observation, you cannot call bitcoin as a currency because it has intrinsic value ?. What about fiat currency, the government keeps the value or promises to keep the value or anyone exchanging them will hold the value and that is the same with bitcoin, anyone exchanging them agreeing upon the valuation.

Bitcoin cannot be used by a certain country's currency for good because if this happens it would be hard for them to be volatile especially when this will be the main currency. Bitcoin will never replace nor change any fiat currency of a certain country just because this bitcoin is not yet supported by the government and also by the banks. People will talk about why it will be changed and also they will always ask where the traditional currency is. Bitcoin will be just an alternative currency until the end of the world, no one can replace a traditional currency.

To be honest i do not see bitcoin being used widely as a country currency; the government is hell bent and looking for ways to centralize the crypto currency space; so i predict that government would rather create their own security token; than adopt bitcoin as a national digital currency.

By far, there's no country who use this system aside from those countries who are open in adopting Bitcoin allowing the existence of this crypto currency to co-exist with their respectives fiat. Maybe someday we will be notified that one country or more that will adopt and make it as national currency.

And it is hard to imagine that some day some country like that would be created with quite another rules of life and quite another laws and so on... It may be in dreams only, at least in the period of our civilization. The key idea of Bitcoin is not to be under control of banking central systems, to be independent and decentralized.

Many countries use bitcoin as a means of payment, because if you want to make bitcoin an instrument of a country's currency, it is still too early,
because the presence of bitcoin in this world is still relatively new. Most countries use bitcoin as an alternative instrument of  payment and as an
investment instrument. Bitcoin doesn't seem to have been able to beat fiat currencies that were hundreds or even thousands of years ago.
Bitcoin's journey is still long

According to the definition of National Currency that I found on the Internet, Bitcoin can be a national currency I think.
it will remain decentralized, but it will be regulated by the central bank as well.
as long as the authority has more power to control it, I think they will accept bitcoin as a currency.
so, what's the point of having bitcoin then?

"A national currency is a currency issued by the monetary authority or central bank of a country. It is the medium through which the goods or services are purchased/sold within an economy. Currency can be anything that represents value; however, paper notes, coins, and digital cash are the most acceptable modern forms."

This will never happen. No state will ever accept Bitcoin as its official currency. Cash or non-cash money of the state plays the role of a substitute for material assets that may be in civil circulation. Based on this, the development of the economy of each state is planned. Bitcoin or other decentralized cryptocurrency is in no way connected with the economy of any state, and therefore cannot be their currency.
In addition, bitcoin is characterized by increased price volatility and this will make it very difficult to use it as a means of payment.

No, first the bitcoin can not be control any country, second it do not have central ability
We haven't tried it yet if it will work though. We need a Special Economic Zone for this kind of things, to experiment on new and sometimes radical ideas involving economics. If it does not have central ability then how come exchanges are still operating? It is not time to judge the efficiency of bitcoin if we haven't ran a case study or an experiment for proof, if it ever comes to that, I think that bitcoin will work as a currency in a smaller scale like SEZ but I couldn't see if it will work in a large country unless we ran this experiment.

There are countries where merchants accept crypto without hassle, such as Japan. Institutions are slowly shifting their funds to crypto using it as a hedge and we are still at an early stage in terms of adaptation. In a few years who knows how big or far crypto can go as it progresses. It may take time, but soon we will get there.

As assets were earlier used to given more importance in barter system, and yes that time BTC might became the national currency.
But at current point of time, thinking this about Bitcoin becoming as a national currency makes me laugh.
But still as future is unpredictable, anything can really happen.

Every country's currency cannot be replaced with bitcoin. Some regulations issued by each country will also be different, some are pros with bitcoin, some are against bitcoin. Bitcoin is only an optional payment instrument that you can choose or not. The national currency remains the main means of payment.

Everyone or all countries can use bitcoin, but the adoption of each country will vary. The more bitcoin is known as it is today, many countries have started adding bitcoin and providing positive regulation for bitcoin.

It needs to remain a decentralized currency. That's part of what makes it unique. I prefer an economy that shares thesame ideals built around Bitcoin and subjected to its decentralization-friendly rules, than allowing centralized entities/businesses built around it, influence and centralized it. It's basically corrupted once it's centralized and controlled by people with contrary agenda.
Your kind of question is one of reasons I prefer an autonomous Bitcoin Network free from the control of "external forces" with contrary agenda

I hope that soon we will be able to use bitcoin as an international currency.
Now anyone can use cryptocurrency for transactions to any other country in any corner of our planet where there is Internet. However, at the state level, cryptocurrency, including bitcoin, will certainly not be used as a currency to service international treaties. States will already have their digitized central bank currencies to do this, or they will create regional stablecoins. Cryptocurrency is not suitable for this, if only due to the fact that it has very high price volatility.

No government will never decide or want to adapt the use of a decentralized money, whiles they know perfectly well that  they will not have control over the use and the amount of it in circulation.  Bitcoin is  better as a universal currency rather than a currency for one country. Government prefer centralized systems rather than decentralized system where they do not have a single control. People managing and controlling a country always want total control of the country's financial transactions, and Bitcoin does not provide that kinda freedom.

Corruption I think has nothing to do with this case. Corruption exist in fiat but it is not such currencies which is aimed to be corrupted. Even if cryptos will be linked to corruption, that won't matter that much since that is another concern. Cryptocurrencies I think will not be a currency to be used in a country alone. There's this taxation which is necessary for an economy to grow and it does not imply to decentralized currencies. Fiat is more likely to be supported in such aspect given that it is more globally accepted. Cryptos as an alternative is possible but to be the only currency to be used, I guess that won't be possible especially at this point of its development.

Bitcoin's system is currently obviously unable to provide this function for the global economy, but its non-replicability as an electronic symbol does make it an electronic tool that realizes some currency functions. For example, the most realistic one is to become a kind of cross-border Electronic wallet. However, since it is not subject to any central bank or government supervision, on the surface this is a completely market-oriented system, but the instability that this market-oriented transaction inevitably faces is also fatal.

Bitcoin replacing fiat in a country is still too far from reality, a lot of things have to take place. Mass adaptation, government's approval and acceptance, which I think is less likely to happen due to the inherent risk of crypto and volatility. However, crypto or even just BTC as an alternative payment method which is possible and is already happening in some countries like Japan is possible. We are yet to achieve mass adaptation and crypto is as young as it seems, there are still a lot of things that can be made and changes that can happen.

Bitcoin can maintain its decentralization while becoming a currency of a nation. Unfortunately, there is no sign that any country willing to accept bitcoin as a major payment option. The government will be difficult in collecting tax, which is the main reason why they avoid using bitcoin. Next important thing that they can not cooperate with bank to shut down any bitcoin account and those governments do not like when they cant control it. Since bitcoin is decentralized, it has no central authority. There is no exact country where it originates so that any country can use bitcoin as a digital currency. If this happens, bitcoin will continue its purpose of being a new payment system as a digital currency that people will mostly use bitcoin in exchange for goods and services, other than using it as a highly volatile investment.

in the first place, i dont think a specific country will solely patronise the use of bitcoin instead of their local currency. their local fiat is what sets them apart from other countries. so dont think exclusively using bitcoin will be one of the major goals of one country. but maybe using it along side with their fiat, thats more then likely to happen.
maybe aim first for a small city or town, a progressive town using bitcoin only. now, that's awesome! but i dont think we will be seeing this in the next 5 years to come.

if to become the currency of a country it seems impossible.  bitcoin is a digital currency and all countries are familiar with bitcoin, bitcoin is used as an investment and digital payment instrument not to become the currency of a country. in the future bitcoin will be known to many people and more and more people will use bitcoin.
IF there would be a cashless fiat in the near future, guess bitcoin can be considered as a currency for a country since we already know that we can use it as an investment and for online payment. But for now, we cannot guarantee that it can be use as a currency of a country unless the world will have a cashless fiat currency.
