Title: Crypto Groups in Telegram
Post by: Pokapoka124 on December 18, 2020, 06:07:19 AM
I began my crypto journey a few years ago and hasn't been all rosy and sweet. I have faced some challenges along the way, some great some small. Telegram for me was the platform to meet and discuss with crypto enthusiasts like myself but unfortunately the community has been infiltrated by scammers over the years. It is a hard to find a legit channel/group on telegram at the moment without having someone mostly a beautiful girl sending you a message to invest in their company. Are there still legit channels in telegram? This drove me to seek other sources and I found you Bitcointalk forum. I love the measures put in place to ensure order in the community. I stand for a safer and healthy bitcoin community!

....Are there still legit channels in telegram?
Probably but they are most likely private channels since public channels have been infiltrated with spams and scams as you said. It's the same situation with groups on Discord, Slack, Facebook and other platforms.

There are also spams like referrals and scams like phishing or malware links in here but there are probably more members involved in cleaning them up. You can also make use of the "report to moderator" button and help out.

You can also report unsolicited private messages and have the sender banned.

Legit telegram channels, what did you imply with? If a company has a Telegram group, you can get link to a legit group someplace on company website.

Many telegram groups are run by scammers for scam giveaways, scam trading signals, scam advertisements.
If you are contacted by scammers on Telegram, you can contribute for the community to wipe scammers out. Report scammers.

You can either stop using telegram or you stop joining those crypto groups, they are more or less all scam groups and being a member in their channel can't yield anything positive for you, you can also prevent users from adding you to groups that'll give them the liberty to pm you without your consent by doing this:
Quote
You can also restrict people who can add you up to groups on Telegram; I'll try and write out the process: "settings>privacy and security>groups>'who can add me to groups' (you select as you desire, best to choose contacts only)>there is also an option there to add exceptions, that's you can include contacts you do not/want to add you notwithstanding"

Unfortunately, you cannot find any legitimate telegram cryptocurrency group that has little to no scammer lurking around the group unless otherwise you have joined a community who does not focus on earning bounties and infinite shitcoins on the market or created a channel where you and other people resides on the same nationality or perhaps you know them personally.

Moreover, there is an existing discord server for bitcointalk created by Cyrus. Try visiting the group and see if it satisfies your standards of a cryptocurrency community.

If you want to have a community where learning bitcoin's technical aspect is their focus, then try joining bitcoin dev telegram group.

I have witnessed several telegram groups where people united to earn a bounty. They transferred their received tokens to one wallet to save on commissions, and as a result, here on the forum, they had to prove that they were not alternative accounts. This is one of the little troubles that happen in such telegram groups. Some scammers rub themselves into trust and take loans in cryptocurrency, communication also occurs with a telegram. Therefore, today, for your safety, it is better not to trust such groups. Since fraudsters do not give up, their goals to make money from honest people have existed since ancient times, and are developing in step with the times.

Check these out. I follow these group and channel for news and potential crypto update.

Code:
t.me/icodrops
t.me/coingecko
t.me/cointelegraph

These channel are for update and news. Groups on telegram are really crowded and full of scammers so always take a good move when you are dealing with strangers. I can add more but these are my frequent visited and notified channel

If you are into blockchain related and more update then follow this but if you are looking for trading groups or presale event there are lots out there but mind you to be careful since a degen play is very risky. Plus you can always encounter a new project that could rugged or run.

It is obvious they purposely display an image of a woman to attract and encourage you to invest. However, mostly with such photographs, they just stole and used it to present as a member of their company. Thus, it is certainly better to stay in the forum because there’s plenty of discussion of a variety of issues. Besides that, you can interact and share any perception. As they pointed out, you should ignore messages, especially those associated with high-return investments, and report them.

When I started my journey in the cryptocurrency space, I would follow hundreds of telegram channels and groups dedicated to bounty, airdrops, signals, predictions, news, ICO, ITO, etc. Almost all of them had gradually turned into scams. I just wasted my time on unimportant things that didn't have any sense. That made me think about what I did wrong, and I realized that all those groups were similar in the sense that they were about shitcoins. Shitcoins have no future, neither have the groups dedicated to those shitcoins.

Now I only follow groups and channels about bitcoin because it is the only cryptocurrency that really matters (at least, for now).

Yep, there are many scammers on telegram. It is not surprising if an unknown person suddenly sends you a PM to offer an investment or asking help you. I will never consider an investment in this way, it is a classic way done by scammers by sending a PM to offer crypto investment. If you are serious to invest in crypto, why don't you just pick one of the top coins? It should be safer than looking for an investment from a legit telegram group channel.

The forum should be enough if you want to get rid of scammers messaging you. There's a filter through the forum which anyone can report a scam that's bothering them or unstoppable messaging them.

There are a lot of good people volunteering and reporting when they've found a scam. This is like the safe haven for most of the newbies in the crypto space at least for those who are serious to learn more about cryptocurrencies. Not only those people that are into ICOs, defis or any project that just comes once in a blue moon. You are also free to ask questions that you want to know because everyone can contribute to what you want to know or if there's a topic that confuses you.

I tend to ignore community groups because there are lots of spammers and admins or moderators of community groups unable to instantly delete all spam posts.

As crypto traders or investors, joining Telegram groups of exchanges you are using is good. If they have different telegram groups (community, announcements, news), I will join the annoucements or news groups that often are view-only groups. You can get updates with those groups: maintenance, listing news, delisting news, events.

I don't promote for Binance but there is a page for Binance community: https://www.binance.com/en/community
You can choose https://t.me/binance_announcements or https://t.me/BinanceAcademy to join.

Fortunately, Telegram groups have a function to deny receiving private messages. They can always be turned off in its settings. And no matter how tempting the news about cryptocurrency may be, you always need to think soberly with your head.
First, think about it: if you have a magic loot button, would you tell people you don't know about it? I think in such matters, even with friends, we will not be very honest. Therefore, it is absolutely not worth taking other people's offers of earnings seriously.
OP, subscribe to the telegram channels of famous news sites. They are handy for fast news delivery. And trusting people you hardly know even on this forum is also very risky.

I'm a 💯 crypto fan myself mate and I don't see any reason using telegram to find people like myself to have some crypto discussions, I only use telegram to follow projects that I invested in or promoting, this forum is enough for me and should be enough for you, there isn't anything you seek about crypto that you can't find on here

The problem with most of the channels or groups available on telegram is the purpose for which they are built which made it easier for scammers to infiltrate more easily. Most telegram channels maybe originate for the purpose of crypto discussions but then, it's always about bounties and airdrops for the administrator hence, the more populous the channel, the more stakes the administrator stands to get. Hence, it becomes an easy to join group and as such, there is no filter on members that join the platform and they tolerate a lot of spam messages and malware compromising links which eventually makes the channel unsafe.
So, the existence of a channel group free from tons of impostors with fake offers is almost impossible on telegram. This is why Bitcointalk is relatively a safe haven but mind you, there are scammers here too though limited, which explains why we have the scam accusation board hence, your advised to thread carefully about too good to true offers. Always try to do it yourself if possible.

What kind of telegram channel do you mean?
How many telegram channels are followed by scamers and how many telegram channels are safe and active against scamers?
We need think smart to choose each telegram channel,,I follow several telegram channels with users or close friends who can be invited to discussion mutual help and inform about crypto development information, try to create a channel with people you know and input a trusted person to know every development

I rarely use telegram because of this. If I am interested in a project and want to stay updated with their latest news, I'd rather visit their official website or read their tweets than join their channel.
You can't learn anything useful on telegram. It became a place to promote referral and phishing links.
Probably, scammers prefer to use tg because of the possiblity to delete conversations from both sides.

You will only find one unless they have an official discussion here which is open and transparent, what I don't like about telegram group is the admin of the group can easily kick you out and they can mute the conversation it's very much moderated so if you are going to question their plan their project and plan you will be likely to get kick out, if many members are asking they will be mute.

Telegram is annoying with scammers, scam groups and notifications but you can turn off notifications if you don't want to receive it. You can turn on or turn off notifications for different groups.

On mobile, you can create Folders for Announcement groups you are folllowing.

Settings ➔➔ Folders ➔➔ Create new folder ➔➔ Add chats ➔➔ Select groups and create a folder. It helps you to manage your Telegram very neat.

It’s really annoying and lots of risk for me personally as I have searched for legit Crypto platform to meet good bitcoin enthusiasts for better transactions. You’re welcome to the bitcoin community but you still have to be careful and always view profile and trust of any member you wish to transact with as there  are also spams like phishing and referrals scams like malware links in here. We have meticulous members who are good in fishing out such accounts and reports to the moderators so such accounts are banned.

Crypto groups in Telegram now put traders at great risk in their use. If these groups are included in the crypto market for trading many members of the group fall prey to their spam and lose everything. Therefore, if you belong to a group its sites should be searched well and caution should be maintained. Crypto groups are more scammed in telegrams and traders avoid these groups for transactions. Users should always be careful when trading especially when storing cryptocurrency wallets and other sensitive data on the same desktop device.

I'm deeply impressed that a newbie has so much knowledge about CRYPTO CURRENCY. It motivates me to learn more about crypto currency. Since scammers has decided to scam and dent this community, we need to be careful with public groups. I recommend we go a bit private. The risk factor out there is too much. Let's be vigilant.
