and and along with it, the heat of our machines will make it intolerable!  All that bright sunshine will bring out the beast in anyone!

Anyway, with the new season of Game of Thrones upon us, maybe we can start a fun meme thread. And while I'm at it, I'd like to introduce anyone who might be interested to our coin, Darkcoin.

Evan Duffield, our developer, has created a truly unique coin.  Starting off with the X-11 algorithm.  He didn't know it at the time, but it turns out that hashing X-11 runs 30-40 percent cooler than script, and almost 3X as fast (that's important to know when you look at difficulty as it isn't as bad as it seems)

So if the anonymity feature of Darksend from the wallet doesn't interest you....
If the very quick to respond Dark-Gravity-Wave (replacement for KGW) doesn't interest you....
If the ASIC resistance and fact that CPU mining is still viable despite having GPU miners as well doesn't interest you...
And finally, if having an amazing developer with a ton of things up his sleeve and open to ideas isn't of interest to you...

Maybe having your computers running 30 - 40% cooler will!?!?!?!?!

Some report 30 to 50% lower temps with Darkcoin mining, check the main thread. You can ask there for the screenshots too.  ;)

What is more interesting is not the GPU temperature.. what really fell down were the VRM temperatures.. they went from 85-88C to about 54-55C.. This amazed me when I saw it first..

Some countries have such crap summers that you might be glad of the heat from your computer. However, I can see this being a good selling point in countries where you can fry eggs on car bonnets in the summer.

That describes us!  LOL, I just said "summer is coming to my daughter, and she groaned, LOL.  Our house has no insulation, best we can get is shade but often it's better to get outside shade in 110 degrees, yuck!  I hate summer!

My 280X Tri-X is running DRK, 1160/1800 @ 2300RPM and 70 degrees!

I found I got more sleep in a tent rather than in a house in those kind of temperatures!

The bricks absorb the heat during the day, then release it at night, so it's like putting a heater on in your bedroom when it's 100 degrees.

i havnt found a downside to darkcoin yet.

you can get mad hashrates with overclocking your gpu because it runs so cool! takes a higher overclock ;)

why would you mine scrypt when you can mine x11 and have all the benefits of scrypt but without the heat, noise and electricity bill.

But does Heavycoin have anonymity from the wallet?  Does it have new technology coming out about once a month with an awesome talented developer?

If Zerocoin was viable, Bitcoin would already have 10,000 TPS and Lamport signatures.  Darkcoin is actually better for the conditions on the ground right now.

These days I have a very simple mining schedule. On cold days I mine LTC and DOGE. On hot days, I mine VTC, DRK and HVC.

VTC is just as hot as scrypt.

I'd suggest mining HIC (Hirocoin) also uses X11 algo but without darksend. Any coin with anonymity features like darkcoins will get banned by the government anyway.

I've always found that pic annoying but now it feels like it just hasn't been used correctly until today that is bravo my friend bravo.

That's an extremely silly comment.  What government are you talking about, and better still, how?  They have no way to enforce such a thing, and we all have a human right to our privacy.

All they can do is attempt to restrict exchanges into fiat directly from Darkcoin. They can't ban the actual network because it doesn't need banks. Anonymous currencies will still be in huge demand will serve as an "anonymising" tool for the currencies that have open blockchains like BTC.

All you have to do to completely erase your trail is exchange BTC --> DRK on a decentralised exchange (which are on the way) then back to --> BTC.

I don't know if people realise how the writing is totally on the wall for any kind of centralised regulation of crypto economies. There's not a snowballs hope in hell of tracking all this stuff and it's only a matter of time before that fact starts to dawn on everybody.

Some countries have tried to severely restrict what you can do with bitcoins, so maybe they will try to do the same with darkcoin.

On the other hand the countries that do not try to control bitcoin will probably treat darkcoin the same way.

More precisely, they've tried to severely restrict what you can do with FIAT. (i.e. as far as Bitcoin is concerned, they've tried to prevent FIAT being used to purchase Bitcoin).

The only reason they can have any influence over fiat in the first place is because A. they control the money supply and B. fiat is not base money (like cryptos are) and is therefore dependent on counterparties (known as "banks") to manage it on behalf of its holders.

They can't do a sodding thing about Bitcoin and haven't restricted it in any way shape or form.

That's a good point about fiat.

Getting fiat into and out of the system is where they hit bitcoin.

True, they can tax your capital gains when you withdraw (so make sure you keep track of what you spent on it) but that's all they can do.  At least this part of your portfolio won't be subject to inflation, and hopefully it will become a practical way to pay for things in the future.

Lots of growing pains, but this is once again, a new frontier for society.  just as the PC changed our world the last 30 years, this will as well ;)

Australia has just come out of summer and I can tell you mining Darkcoin and x11 was the best thing ever....

45-50% less electricity usage and at least 20-25 degrees cooler per GPU and totally rock stable.

mining scrypt was a bitch...overheating cards, noisy as fuck industrial fans just to blow more heat around....NO additional fans required for x11!

im NEVER going back to scrypt.

Seriously x11 or bust or something like that… I went from 100% fans 77/78 degrees to 85% fans 60/52 what?!?  Go, go, go! Oh, and I can watch netflix without the weird stutter thing when I mine scrypt.  I know this isn't a 'real' benefit to a hardcore miner and maybe it reduces my mining speed, but it means I can use my computer a little while it hashes.  That is cool.  Darkcoin, I love what you are doing.  And x11 I love you more.

and some more that sph-sgminer supports. i think it even supports quark but i didn't test it yet..

my 3 cards are 100mv overvoltage and overclocked to 1125mhz on the core. this wouldnt be possible mining scrypt. x11 is so stable.

150w on intensitiy 20 overclocked, is very impressive

basically your getting 60% more profit through lower electricity bills

its not just about summer,

How does it work? Since usually register of transactions is public.

I thought people could check how much you had in an address by looking at the blockchain but could not see where you sent it, or where it came from.
