Title: Electrum ABC
Post by: codehtcmail on December 21, 2020, 08:51:57 AM
Hi

I have about 10 BCHA but can't seem to find a good safe wallet for it, I tried Electrum ABC from here https://github.com/bitcoin-abc/ElectrumABC/releases/
But my AntiVirus says it's a virus, is there any safe wallet for BCHA ? or is my AntiVirus wrong for flagging it ?

Why not you will directly send it to the exchange platform that supported with BCHA.  Because if you were going to ask me, I won't hold a coin that forked to BCH.

Exchanges platforms that supported BCHA.
  • Binance
  • Huobi
  • Bitfinex
  • Coinex

Wallets that supported BCHA.
  • Coinomi (I'm not sure with this)

For the record, even the official Electrum itself is being flagged by most Antivirus software.
But I can't say that the AV scan results for that particular Electrum fork are false-positive because I've never used ElectrumABC nor willing to try it myself.

Example:
v4.0.9 result virustotal: file/906b9dd77d2d9c4527058149a92925ead0ebac83f2e2fe9fd4558ee1159ceec7 (https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/906b9dd77d2d9c4527058149a92925ead0ebac83f2e2fe9fd4558ee1159ceec7/detection)
v3.3.7 result virustotal: file/2086a08d5d9a85fd02f165c92dfcac621f3bb6d59a8f62d22338d24fd2cdb159 (https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/2086a08d5d9a85fd02f165c92dfcac621f3bb6d59a8f62d22338d24fd2cdb159/detection)

Yes in the past it happened that some legit wallets were flagged as a virus, but the current versions of electrum don't have that problem with my AntiVirus, which Kasperky Total by the way.

I will try Viawallet.
As for the exchanges, I am from Tunisia, we have been kicked from many exchanges (like Bittrex) in the past and wasn't going to try my luck, thank god I leave no coins in exchanges.

Flag virus as normal on some wallet as long the virus is not malware.

The best way, always to verify first did you download from the original resource by verifying the signature before downloading the wallets. If you already verified, you are downloading from the right resource just ignore the virus notification.

Microsoft Edge and Windows Defender keep flagging the official Electrum downloads as "unsafe" ::)  And I know other antivirus flags it due to "PyInstaller" flagging up as being suspicious activity etc. :-\

I have used the "Report as Safe" option every time this happens, and it still keeps on happening, so I'm fairly sure my reports are being ignored :-\

As for ElectrumABC, they provide sha256 checksums (so you can check file was downloaded OK) and also an archive of the gpg signatures so you can check that it was signed correctly. If all that checks out, then I'd say it was "ok" to use... Given it's on the "official" BitcoinABC, it should be "legit"... unless the entire project is a "scam" :P
