Normally, the News area will be displayed like this:

But if I click on the Quote button, it is broken and hyperlink will be shown in the brackets like the following screenshot. Is it a bug or only a broken display from SMF then can not be fixed?

It's normal.

Hyperlinks are always disabled when you're trying to post something. It has always been the case for hyperlinks at the top and images in the post are displayed like this :

I just noticed it too also for edit button.

But if you use a reply button those hyperlink will not be shown on news area.

As I can tell, it's not just affecting the news area but the entire thread; If I click on reply the images in OP be displayed the way they appear when I scroll down. But when I use quote the images are disabled, apparently for forum security, and only the imgur link is shown.
I doubt it's a bug, as it could have been designed that way right from time to recognize 'quotes, edits' and 'reply' differently.

The idea could be that someone replying to a thread may need to view the whole thread while typing, but someone who is quoting some other user or editing their own reply may not need that. This is just a wild guess.

No, it is not a bug, but all the things that can be clicked appear with their links, meaning that codes such as "[/img][/url]" stop working, which is a good insurance feature.
Sometimes when I have time, I do this quote to check the links, especially when I am browsing from the phone where knowing the modified links becomes difficult.
So I don't consider it a bug but rather a good feature.

It's a security feature. Reveals the link to the URL in plaintext.

theymos just didn't bother to change it: it's been like this for a while now. It's not worth the time, anyway: who the f^_ork needs the news when they're trying to respond to a thread? maybe if you're the type of person who meanders endlessly while in the reply box: hit alt+s already

In the quote, there is a bitcoin explorer link. After posting it turns out that the link is not clickable. While in the original post it is clickable even though it doesn't use BBCode.

Is this a bug?

The bug is:

• Hyperlink works fine (all above three quotes) if you make your post the first time.
• Bug will be shown if you click on edit (it does not a matter that you actually edit it or simply click on edit button but not edit anything
• First quote is fine, but after I edit the post, include the second and third quotes, hyperlink in first quote is disabled
• Then second and third quotes will have disabled hyperlink after I edit this post with the below quote

There are two spaces before the link posted by laszlo.
If you delete one of those spaces, you will see that the hyperlink will no longer be disabled after you edit the post.
I don't know whether it's a bug or it has been designed in this way for a reason.

So, this has nothing to do with quoting and can happen even when you make the post without quoting another post.

Hyperlink work fine on the first post as well as on preview. But when I edited the post I realized that the hyperlink was disabled.

If the post is edited, it means that the solution must insert in the hyperlink.
