Title: Why do most Full Member accounts are inactive?
Post by: bitcoinermatt on December 26, 2020, 06:01:36 AM
I see that a lot of accounts on the forum have exactly 100 merit and the minimum requirements to be a Full Member.

Why is there so many?

It is a quite damn easy to be a Full member without merit system. Have 120 posts, 120 activity points and rank up at the forum check time.
History of bitcointalk.org's rank system (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5170032.msg51993801#msg51993801)

If one Full member is posting a lot since 2018 but did not get a single merit, that member is a shitposter and is worse than a member who received 10 merit from their good posts. If you look at the signatures they wear, you see they are joining bounties as they are not able to join in a good signature campaign that pays in bitcoin.

What you are seeing are just members who are luckily reached a certain rank before the implementation of the merit system requirement during the first quarter of the year 2018. They are given an initial amount of merit based on their current rank when merit system was initialized.

They have an exact number of merit because they are not actively participating on some discussion or perhaps a mere farming account who doesn't have anything useful to say in the community.

For current members, your initial merit score is equal to the minimum required to your rank. Of that, a certain amount (less than the usual half) is spendable. The spendable amount was calculated based on your current rank and the number of activity points you earned in the last year. A Legendary member who hasn't posted in the last year would still be Legendary, but would not have any spendable merit.

Most of them are from the time when we didn't have merit system, I guess. Just 120 activities with certain period could get you to Full Member. Now that many of them even don't know about this merit system and they may have forgotten the forum itself as we tend to use different forums if we find some interesting topics and after using them for some time, we get bored and leave.
