Title: Anybody recognise this or know anything about it?

I’ve had it since about 2014. It seems to be brass and is about the size of a Morgan dollar. I think it got it from Hard BTC back in the day. Just curious to know who made it. It’s quite a cool design !

(apologies for not posting the actual pic - can’t work out how to do it)

Here is the thread where the creator MJB Monetary Metals released these upon the forum. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=63259) These have also been copied and mass produced through many Chinese manufacturers. Rather than the original copper they are probably brass or some cheap alloy. Hard to know which you may have.

Ah great many thanks. Really interesting. so it’s the very first piece of bitcoin art. I’m pretty sure mine is original.

It may be your first piece of bitcoin art but it is quite a few coins down the line from being the first.

MJB Monetary Metals started in 2011 with these (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=23256)

Mike Caldwell started producing Casascius coins in 2011 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=38048)

And I believe BitBills (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3334918.0) predates both of those. Someone can chime in with the earliest known bitcoin collectible as I don't know which it is off the top of my head.

Here is a timeline made by ChiBitCTy of physical bitcoin collectables.
Historical Timeline of the Physical Bitcoin & Cryptocurrency Collectible (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5174217.msg52116521#msg52116521)

And yes Bitbills issued on 9th may 2011, so it was to be the first physical incarnation of Bitcoin on a collectable item.
