Title: Should I be worried if my VPN gets flagged by Admin here?
Post by: bitcoin talk on December 28, 2020, 05:43:29 AM
I don't want to be banned by others shenanigans ( people using the same vpn company). How likely is that if I am straight (not doing anything wrong)? Recourse and will anyone be prepared to vouch for me (member since 2016) just in case? Its a great board. Or am I over worrying?

Using the exact same VPN as other banned users won't get you banned as well. The only way we detect the alt account is through their posts or they themselves admit it's their alt.
So VPN isn't a means to ban users and you won't be banned as long as you obey the forum rules.

You're only likely to get a problem(evil IP, would require you to pay a small amount to be able to register) only when registering an account using a VPN(especially when using a free one). But once your account is made? Zero problems. You can even use Bitcointalk through Tor if you want to, and is actually heavily recommended for privacy reasons.

If you like you can use VPN to access this site, you will not be banned because you are using VPN to access Bitcointalk forum which is not against the rules of this forum. Also, you can use any other connections that you want, and you will not be banned. Only what could result to account ban is when a user not obeying the forum rules. Aside this, nothing can get your account banned.

Your saying an established member won't get asked to fork out btc fee if he logs in via Tor? How certain are you of that?

You question is not clear. What mk4 meant is clear and simple. If you use Tor browser to access Bitcointalk forum, or any other site, there will be privacy unlike using privacy-depriving broswers like chrome and edge. Although, Tor is slow in loading, but yet still the best, most common and recommendable privacy browser.

I’m certain of that because I personally use Tor, and Bitcointalk doesn’t ask you to pay for anything once your account already has been registered. Again, like what I said in my previous response, the small fees for ‘evil IPs’ are only at registration.

Why would admins flag anyone for using VPN when Satoshi himself used Tor and same IPs as many other forum members...
Problem only happens if someone was banned before with same IP address and then you can't register in forum with same VPN IP without paying fees, and this is not a perfect system but it's hard to make something better really.

You are over worrying. No need to worry. AFAIK, your account can only be banned if you'd used VPN to register an account to bypass the evil IP address that you should have and to avoid paying for the registration fee to be able to make posts.
If anyone wants to create an account, do not use VPNs, just pay for the reg. fee if you really want to create one. It's just a small fee just to inform you.

This is the best place on the web to use VPN. So, do not get stressed. Chill!

PS: I like you username.

I'm certain of it...

The admin themselves have said they don't trust their anti ddos provider. Most of us are using a vpn or tor anyway.

This will not happen.
I know you've already received a handful of replies, but I just wanted to pile on.
Our staff here are well-versed in the dark-arts of VPNs, and dynamic IPs.

How likely is that if I am straight (not doing anything wrong)? Recourse and will anyone be prepared to vouch for me (member since 2016) just in case? Its a great board. Or am I over worrying?

You are definitely overly-concerned, but this isn't necessarily your own fault. It's easy to think that you might accidentally fall onto the wrong side of things.
The only thing that can really vouch for you, though, if any accusations are thrown your way would be your actions and your staked address.

Sometimes accounts are charged a small "evil" fee, in BTC, if they are created on an IP that has been used for nonsense in the past. In a way, this sucks for users when they end up paying for the sins of others, but if I remember right the staff will lift these manually if you request them to.
