Post by: DECABEATZ on December 29, 2020, 03:44:26 PM
Russell O Kung - of Carolina Panthers will get a 13 Million salary this year 50% of which in Bitcoin.  What a smart man congrats to him. What's everyone's thoughts?

If he doesn't spend that half, then it's definitely a good idea and I think he's only in profit.

Good on him that his org actually agreed to said arrangement. Most companies would hesitate given the potential of bitcoin to appreciate in value over time. I would love to have this kind of payment setup for my contract, though I understand that we’re still limited by the legislation with regulations and laws re: salaries. It would be a good thing for companies to start adopting the said system, really, but it’ll be hard to get there that’s sure.

From one of the articles (https://www.coindesk.com/panthers-russell-okung-becomes-first-nfl-player-to-be-paid-in-bitcoin) I was reading:
Quote
Technically speaking, Okung is still being paid in fiat. Behind the scenes, however, is Lightning Network magic: Strike receives a direct deposit from his team, the Carolina Panthers, and then swaps dollars for bitcoin. That bitcoin is then sent to a cold storage wallet held by Okung, Mallers said. (To recap, Lightning is a secondary system for sending bitcoin in a cheaper and quicker fashion compared to using the Bitcoin network itself.)

So Panthers are sending half of Okung's paycheck to Strike, they swap it to BTC and then that BTC is transferred to Okung's cold storage address. Interesting. I wish this was more widespread. I for one would love to opt in to something similar if my workplace offered such an option.

If he holds the Bitcoin part, then with the new ATH he just earner another year or two for himself!

This is as getting a free year in your lifespan. It would be amazing if he counts it like that, take a year off and just travel being already paid ;D
