Hey Everyone,

I signed up for the board mid 'senior moment" and wound up with my email  displaying as my handle.

I suspect that I will need help from one of the Mod's.

Can this account have the username changed or could you delete this account and let me create a new account with a safer username???

Lol if its your email then you'd exactly get much spam to it everyday. But if its just your throw away email, you are good as it doesn't matter. You're not the only one who has this kind of username by theway.

I'm not sure if the mods can help about it, its got to be the admin who has read, write access to board database.

as the guy implemented several extensions on this forum I'm pretty sure he can easily delete your user directly in the database

Afaik, your username cannot be changed, but your display name can be by the admin. This means you'll still use your original name to log in and it would also come up in searches.

Message theymos with your request and the reason for it. There's no guarantee you'll be attended to, but you can take the chance, especially if privacy is your concern.
You can also move onto another account with a name of your choice, but deleting an account is not possible.

It seems difficult to change the name as you want even though the mod can meet your requirements but this is not very important to it so it will likely be ignored by the mod. But you can try what many suggest.

I don't know whether this account can be deleted or not because what I know is that most accounts in bans are not deleted so just leave it, it doesn't matter dude with your email name and don't use this mail as the main because it will get lots of spam coming to you can make a new email in the main.

Try to PM the Administrators (theymos (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=35), Cyrus (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=78147)) to see if they can delete your account, or change the username (which is very infrequent). Specify clearly that you messed up by placing your email as the user name. These petitions are seldom attended, but it may be worth a try in this case.

Regardless, you may need to change your email if it is tied to any account that you have any appreciation for (crypto related for example), and certainly don’t ask for it to be your forum account’s associated email.

Only VIP members can send get privilege to change username but in past 2 years, theymos is more softly and accept username change request from non-VIP members. You can try and have prob to get acceptance if you are good members and have due diligent reasons to change your username.

My advice: create a new account. I don't think you will get your handle changed.

There is no chance that you will change your username instead you will ask the moderators to help you out but there is no assurance that they will help you immediately.


If OP will change the account the previous account must be tagged as an alt of OP to prevent getting issues in future. Don't worry OP just a neutral tag as for reference this is your alt account.

The admin should make a difference for each case, here we talk about a new member (so no risk for any bad effect) and not a legendary/known user.

I don't know if the name can be changed but you can try to ask those people who you think can do some changes like the admins. Maybe they can do something about it. If not, then just let it be. I mean, if that email is not connected to anything valuable like your wallet or other things, you can use that as your name here. You'll most probably receive emails though. But you can always mark them as spam if they're not important.

No, you won't get any answer if you pm any moderators, since it's not a way to contact theymos to change your username.

You must pm to theymos by yourself.

Actually what's the problem create new account as OP just still newbie? If OP afraid someone will spam or hack his email, he shouldn't create this thread earlier. But since it's too late, i hope OP strenghten his email password and don't click any suspicous link from any random email he received later.


Yes our account name can be changed, few of them already changed. Read few posts above and you will find 2 ways to change our account name.

Whether they get the account name changed or create an alt, it doesn't change the email from having spread: perhaps it would be good to create a new email exclusively for bitcointalk? :) ^{and if possible, apply to each website.}

Create a new username, you've got nothing to lose (ranking and all) since you're a new member. Oh, and make sure you protect this email on your username with strong password and 2FA security.

We have seen a few days before admin changed a few user display names based on requests. But they are the best contributors to the forum. I don't think the admin will allow you to change your username since you aren't one of them who spend their time contributing to the forum. So, as suggested by other users, it's better to create a new account if you aren't evading the ban. For that, you will not have to request admin or moderators.

I requested a name change a few months back by PM'ing Theymos directly, and I got no response.  I seriously doubt Theymos would let OP change his username given that he just registered two days ago.  Just create a new account, OP.  And maybe request that Theymos delete the current one. 

If Theymos doesn't delete your account, just don't log into the one that has your e-mail in it and eventually it'll fade away--and hopefully you won't be bombarded with spam.  Good luck.

The quickest and easiest way is to just delete all the posts made by this account, abandon it and create a new account. No one will care about a newbie account with zero posts even in your case.

Its possible that your name will be get changed and we have seen that a few times for some Users and Accounts !
Just write a PM to theymos that you would changed the Username or try to contact Support for hacked/lost accounts (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5089777.0) !
I guess they can also handle some kind of things and also there is Cyrus that maybe can change the name as well if there is a important reason for.

Now that the OPs request has been granted, there is no need for additional commentary as to what the OP needs to do to get his username changed.

you don't necessarily need to donate in order to have your username change. I remember one member of the forum who's username was changed after he asks theymos to change it. I feel that theymos would change your username if you ask and if your reasoning is valid enough for your username to be changed.

Well, against all odds, you managed to change your username, which in this case seemed potentially well justified due to placing your email as your username by mistake. The logical options were to do that, delete the account (anonymize), or have you change your email everywhere. I figure that you have not tied that email to your account, in order to reduce risks, and that you'll consider whether it’s worth changing the email per se.

Note: You may want to ask people who quoted your OP to consider deleting at least the container, that bears your old username. I've deleted my quote in my prior post on this thread.

Another note for OP is:

• What was changed is display name of OP, not an initial and also fixed username.
• OP can ask for changes of username (in fact it is display name) as many times as possible if theymos accepts it. But if I know the initial username, I can use it to search and search result will direct to the current display name of OP.
• I tested and detected interesting thing. This case looks a special case and theymos changed initial username as well. I can not search it with OP's old username. The above statement is right for other cases.  :-X

Nice to see that the Username is already changed to a new one and the email Adress Username is gone !
I thought in this case that it should be not take to long for changing it from theymos as the Username was an email adress !
So i guess the OP can lock this thread as the problem is solved or maybe a Global Moderator can do it.

The only problem is that your original post got caught by LoyceV scrapper and whoever knows how to use it can still find the email address there.
@LoyceV, is that something you could edit or delete manually to prevent people from seeing his email in public?

I'm not the only one running a scraper, so anythin you post should be considered online forever.

I've edited View all unedited (or deleted) posts made by PNW_Steve (https://loyce.club/archive/members/294/2942476.html) and my complete List of all Bitcointalk usernames (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5202231.0). I'm not editing all quotes in my archives though, just like the old username is still visible in quotes in this topic. It might pop up again in for instance my Merit data too, that update is currently running.
