Title: Eligibility to claim Bitcoin forks
Post by: tuanbct on January 01, 2021, 08:14:22 PM
Hello guys,

After holding bitcoin for 6 years, in July 2020, I moved it to an exchange and forgot to claim the bitcoin forks, such as bitcoin cash, bitcoin SV, bitcoin gold, etc. Does anybody know if there's still a chance I can still claim them, and if yes, what's the best way to do so please?

Thank you very much for sharing.

If you never touched it and then you can claim your BCH
You just need to follow this step dude https://medium.com/@itsjameswhite/how-to-claim-bitcoin-cash-from-bitcoin-core-to-a-full-node-wallet-de661b8e7dda

I guess you can check it out and read the whole step carefully. This is the best thing that you can do to claim your BCH.
I think there's still a chance to claim it.

If you still have that address where you've held bitcoin during those forks, you can. There many tutorials you can search how to claim those forks.
These are the few that I've seen.

Yes, I have never tried to claim the forks yet.

Thank you very much for the good news. I will try to claim them by following the guidelines.

Best,

i think there are still some chance that you could claim those. if i could remember there's a lot of bitcoin forks that's been out lately and but not all of them have some good values right now on the market.

Technically yes, you can claim it.
Best way would be to install local copy of any of the fork's clients and import your keys there, This should allow you to get your coins on your wallet on THAT chain.
However, be sure you're downloading and installing the legit thing. Alot of phishing around

If your bitcoin stored in exchange then the only way to know if you are illegible is to contact support of that exchange and if they support the fork that time you will automically  receive it in your exchange wallet that time no need to anything . If not then most likely you will not get any . if you hold it for long time to your own wallet  then its still possible to claim yours just mention here what wallet did you use that time so we can share the right guide for you to claim your fork.

Clearly the forks didn't go away. You can clearly cash them in.
Since you moved the coins from the wallet you actually did the best safety first step.
Then, you should read this tutorial for the most important forks: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2836875.0

Slowly going into the progress as well, first make sure to move the coins if the wallet is cold storage to a Trezor or secure wallet. Then work through all these tutorials I kind of wish there was a faster way to just import a wallet file and have it scrape all Bitcoin Fork wallets at once to see if you had a balance, that said as others have pointed out the process is manual one by one till the amount gets small enough that it just isn't worth caring about again :)

If only you had read the OP's post more carefully. He said he transfered bitcoin to the exchange in 2020, so there is no need to contact support because the coins were not on the exchange at the time of the forks.

That's good news for him that he can still claim the BCH. Now I know the reason why some people are looking for old address and wanted to buy them, It's not about the value of the new accounts but it's the value of the unclaimed fork.

As far as I remember, I don't have to make any claim to the Bitcoin fork, because it is given automatically based on the Bitcoin balance you have on the exchange, try to check first in the exchange wallet you are moving, I'm sure you already have tokens born from Bitcoin fork.
he doesn't hold in exchange. for sure he can't claim Bitcoin fork where he moved in exchange after forked

OP you can claim your forked bitcoin if you had the private key of your wallet.

You need to analyze which coins it makes sense to request, and which ones you can forget abou . Because each fork has its own special moments – the block number, the reward coefficient, the number of exchanges where the coin is traded. It is better to know about all this in advance.

He had been holding those coins or bitcoin for 6 years which its a bit understandable that he had the keys of said wallet.I just dont know if he can able to claim out those forked coins
if the bitcoin balance were sent into an exchange?

When it comes to claiming then these things are helpful.

Is there a reason for people not to claim these forks?  I am confused why some people don't bother with it assuming they know how to do it.

The only fork i claimed was BCH and that was downloading electroncash and typing in my electrum seed phrase and then sending the BCH to my nano ledger wallet.

I have not claimed BSV, BTG, or bitcoin diamond and private.  The last two... seems even more complicated.  But if you do have a spare windows pc, shouldn't everyone go and claim it?  Because even if you don't care or believe in it, why not claim it and then send it to an exchange and sell it immediately for btc or usdt and just cash out?

The only reason I think someone would not do this would be they don't know how and if its risky for them to claim in on their main computer?

But as long as you moved the btc, then you would be fine.

So is there a reason why very few people claim the forks?
