Title: Mycelium Bitcoin price: 900 euro too high
Post by: LoyceV on January 03, 2021, 10:22:58 AM
I noticed Mycelium shows a much higher Bitcoin price in euro than it should. I use Bitstamp by default, but when I check other exchanges it's all around the same value. However, when I login to Kraken, it's about 900 euro less than what Mycelium shows.
I didn't notice this before, and I often use Mycelium as a quick price reference, so this is slightly annoying. I would expect Mycelium to get the price directly from the exchanges, so it shouldn't consistently be too high.

When I check https://bitcoinaverage.com/en/bitcoin-price/btc-to-eur it shows the same higher price, but on the right it shows a "EUR Index" which is much closer to the actual price.

Indeed, EUR price is higher than it should. Somehow it looks like Mycelium may get the price in USD and then do a bad conversion to EUR, since it shows similar bad EUR price everywhere.
I did use EUR price now and then, but I mostly use their USD price (for same quick reference) to stay in sync with ... basically everybody. And USD price looks unaffected by this bug.

The euro price on Mycelium is more in line with exchanges now, so I consider this solved.

I noticed another problem, but it's altcoin-related so not worth a new topic. I don't use Ethereum, but when I check it on Mycelium, it shows a Normal fee to confirm in ~2 minutes is 2719.5 μETH <0.01 EUR 129.50 Gwei/gas. I never understood (nor cared) about the Gwei/gas, but shouldn't 2719.5 μETH be around 2.54 EUR? Could it be Mycelium's fee estimate in euro/dollar is a factor 1000 too low for ETH?

It's back: Mycelium shows 900 euro more than exchanges again.

Can it be that they use some (3rd party?) service for USD-EUR conversion and that service is "more expensive" during week-ends? (I know, it's assumptions over assumptions...)
