Title: Good mobile wallet
Post by: Entontothekeseczi on January 05, 2021, 02:13:22 AM
Hi!

I just wanted to use bitcoin.com wallet for android and it warned me because of high transaction fees (around 20 $).
I cancelled and started a new transaction and it did not warn me again (around 8$).
This was maybe 30 seconds apart and I have no idea what to think about this but is this maybe a cheap way to advertise BCH?

If yes I want to switch software of course. Which software for android is trustworthy?

Thx for all recommendations!

Reagards!

Which coin are you talking about the transaction and fee? Bitcoin (BTC) or Bitcoin Cash (BCH). I think you are talking about bitcoin transaction as BCH transactions are not expensive as that.

  • WasabiWallet[2] for Windows
  • A Ledger[3], Trezor[4], or a Coldcard[5](intermediate) if you want a hardware wallet(preferably)

Currently, I am using Trust Wallet and SafePal Wallet. Both of them is backed by Binance and both of them is multi-coin wallet.. Safepal supports hardware wallet. Also, you can use Atomic wallet. Trust Wallet and Safepal Wallet is the most popular wallet for Android.

I personally recommend you to use coinbase wallet. It is one of the best wallet to me although it is a centralized wallet. Veteran bitcoin users does not want to advice people to use a third party wallet because it is against the purpose of bitcoin. Though, I find that coinbase has a cheap fee with an astonishing services that they provide. Moreover, you can hold variety of coins in this wallet.

I have not made a research on any real mobile bitcoin wallet. But I believe that it will consume a big fee when you make a transaction

Coinbase in a transacting perspective is only great because of the fact that Coinbase<->Coinbase transactions are free. Beyond that? Nope. But if you're fine with the possibility that you lose everything if ever Coinbase gets hacked in the future, then go ahead.

Never heard of Bluewallet since I'm using electrum for almost 4 years already. Just gonna ask if Bluewallet has lesser fee compare to Electrum? I've got a trezor way back then but it was not working very well for me so I decided to get back on Electrum again.

I'm gonna vote for Trust Wallet since its user interface is very neat and friendly, so easy to use and navigate even in the first time using it. ImToken wallet is also good for storing both Bitcoin and altcoins. It works like a metamask since you could import your Ethereum private keys with your ERC-20 tokens giving you so much convenience in sending them and receiving tokens from different wallets.

Fees should be the same, though BlueWallet supports lightning so it's going to be pretty handy if you end up needing to do a LN transaction.

As for Trezor, especially if you have a good amount of funds, I definitely suggest using it. With Electrum or any other software wallet, your wallet's private keys could potentially get leaked(if it hasn't been leaked already). Better safe than sorry!

Bitcoin.com is more focused on promoting Bcash. Their wallet doesn't support segwit and doesn't use good fee estimation for bitcoin so you will end up paying unnecessarily high fees. I suggest choosing something like Electrum which is open source and let's you set your own fee.

When transaction rate keeps skyrocketing as seen currently due to the rise in Bitcoin price as more people are going for it, there is every tendency the transaction fees will be high and when sending it is good to use the recommended fee as it will be fast, because any bid to alter it might result to slow transactions confirmation, but however I don't think it makes sense spending such on fees as you can try some other time, unless you are in a haste. This same high fees is also witnessed on the Ethereum blockchain. Nevertheless, asking about a trustworthy wallet, you can try Imtoken or Trust wallet, but personally I prefer Trust wallet, also remember to backup your mnemonic phrases.

I have been using Mycelium, Coinomi and Electrum mobile wallets and they are working great with me so far so good since 2017. You can actually set transaction fees on the first two wallets I've mentioned above except for Electrum which you cannot.

This is inaccurate. Regardless if you are using the mobile version of Electrum and its desktop wallet; you still have the options to manually change the transaction fees (sats/vbyte) by manually typing it or just simply using the slider. Also, it would be much better to check [1] https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#0,24h to determine the least amount of sats/vbyte when broadcasting the transaction.

I use Mycelium since it supports Hardware Wallets. Else I would have been probably using Electrum.
Is not the best wallet, but it's also not bad.
I think that it deserves a place in the (although not bad at all) list mk4 made (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5306915.msg56022736#msg56022736).
I'd also add that Ledger Live wallet is quite crap and you better use another software with their hardware wallet.

your lucky and need to be thankful because they warn you with the fee that your going to use and what if they didnt do that ,

you will accidentally sent a transaction with 20 $ fee but why did the transaction fee go down drastically after cancelling and trying again , is that a cause of rapid fluctuation in btc price ? and price go down fast but why is bch suddenly joined the convo .

can you clear out if what coin or fee your using or pops out on your screen  . bch fees arent high as btc because bch price havent been jumping for a while .

If the transaction fee is so high for that day I suggest to wait before the market became stable and transact at that time since you can get a lesser fee for that situation and also you can use the Electrum since so far the fee I encounter a less fee transaction by using that in the past couple of days.

For storing Bitcoin, I would definitely not recommend CEXs (unless you are a day trader). For mobile wallets, Trust Wallet is the one that I trust the most because it’s decentralized, non-custodial and we own the private keys to our coins or tokens.

I have used Bitcoin.com wallet before during a blockchain conference in Manila. I met Roger Ver in person there, took a picture with him, and he sent me $10 worth of BCH that time to my Bitcoin.com wallet. But eventually, I withdrew it afterward lol.

Honestly, I've been using a lot of wallets. For multi-wallet, I've been using Trust wallet to receive Bitcoin, ETH, and more. For more security, I have also been using Electrum since I don't have any hardware wallet yet. I have also been using our local currency where I can able to convert my tokens into local currency which is partnered with some banks. Through it, I can able to cash it out. I choose the mobile wallet according to its popularity and those have good reviews to mitigate the risk. But if you have enough money I would recommend for you to have a hardware wallet because that way it provides better security.

You are not getting it completely right. If it is electrum on computer, definitely you are right, you can edit the fee by also typing it, you can even edit the fee to be 1 Satoshi/byte. This is why electrum desktop wallet can be used to even consolidate. But on mobile electrum, you can although still edit the fee but you can not edit it by typing, it only gives five editing means which you can see in the below diagrams, and it can not edit for transactions that can be below 25 blocks estimate fee. On the mobile electrum, fees can not be edited by typing it.

Yep! I agree. I just didn't expound it critically so that OP could easily understand that using the mobile version of Electrum still allows you to edit the transaction fees  :D

To be more precise, the number of editing means of a slider depends on what type of method you are using (e.g., ETA, Mempool, Static).

Mempool --7 slide option
Static -- 12 slide options
ETA -- 5 slide options.

I would still prefer to use the Mempool though and manually check the current required sats in order for my transaction to be included in the next few blocks. As of now the required least amount of sats/vbyte is around 40 sats which is close to the 5th slide in mobile version.

With mobile wallets, I use electrum and moved from that to my celium because I prefer it and the interface and how it works better. Desktop I use exodus and long term hodl ledger wallet.
Ledger counts as a sort of bank account while the desktop wallet exodus is for trading and larger purchases sometimes. The mobile wallets I don't keep much on just a spendable amount for smaller things.

Whatever trusted wallet you may download to your android phone, regarding with the fees it is really high as of the moment. If you choose fix and small fees it may possibly stucked in the blockchain as the miners prioritize those who choose fast and higher fees.
While electrum is a good choice, I also use non custodial wallet to send it into my own local wallets. So far, I choose medium range of transactions with reasonable fees and my transactions so far is smooth.

For a customizable fee, you can use a decentralized wallet or if you want to really go with Bitcoin, I advise you to buy a hardware wallet since most of the hardware wallet brands have support for mobile devices. It will not just make the transactions easier but it will boost the security of your funds compared to a usual cryptocurrency mobile app wallet wherein the private key of your account is visible. Once it was taken from you through a screenshot or screen recording, your account is already compromised. A hardware wallet is also flexible, you can use it to connect it to other software without the risk as it will never display your private key. In addition, if you want to prove the ownership of your wallet, you can easily use it to sign a message.

Now there are many choices of mobile wallets for cryptocurrency, and the problem is not all mobile wallets are safe and comfortable to use.
I recommend Trust wallets to be used to store Bitcoin that we have. There are lots of benefits provided by the Trust wallet for its users.
Some of the benefits that I feel when using a Trust wallet are fast transactions, can see graphs of price movements, and is safe from hackers.

People find the usage of blockchain wallet to be weird. I've been using it for a long and hasn't encountered any issues. I feel comfortable with the transaction fee as well as the accessibility. For bitcoin Blockchain wallet and for the storing of ethereum and ethereum based tokens my choice is Myetherwallet.

When  it comes to wallet then here's my preference;

Electrum - Bitcoin
Myetherwallet - Erc20

Ive been using mycelium too. About fees then its a dynamic ones so it isn't surprising that you would really be seeing
changes in numbers because there are times that network is clogged up and which makes the fees are way too high.

I am using to save my Bitcoin Atomic Wallet and the experience has been good. I have downloaded other mobile Wallets such as BlueWallet and TrustWallet but I have not used them yet, it all depends on the needs of each person.

I like the Atomic Wallet because in addition to being able to save my Bitcoin I can swap several coins, stake some coins and earn Cashback for each exchange.

For Ethereum I keep my ether and tokens in MEW and MetaMask. Now MetaMask has a useful and convenient alliance with Uniswap from the desktop version which allows me to save time and money.

With the development of cryptocurrency, more and more good mobile wallets have emerged. Such as Trust wallet, Mycelium, ZenGo and
Electrum wallet. All mobile wallets now have almost the same standard, depending on our tastes. For now I am more comfortable using
Trust wallets, but that doesn't mean other mobile wallets are bad. It's just that I feel safer using a Trust wallet.

I suggest you, try to use any hardware wallet cause the current BTC price is really too high. Everyone should get in the habit of using hardware wallet for their own safety.
If you want to store a low volume of BTC for a short time holding then you can use software wallet. You can go with BlueWallet for your mobile, BlueWallet is much Economical, cause its supports Lightning network, by using LN service you can reduce your transaction fees.

Well, a hardware wallet is good if you are willing to spend some bucks from your pocket to purchase this kind of wallet.
You can use a wallet that supports Light Network and also support with a segwit address, they are good at having transaction fee, you can definitely modify of your transaction with the exact amount that required to the bitcoin network. It's enough for me to sue Electrum as a moist suggested by others, it is free, Lightning Network supported, and also has a Segwit walled address.

Obviously, I myself do not and have never used a mobile-based application because for me it may be very vulnerable and does not guarantee its existence, so until now I haven't and will not try it. especially after hearing the explanation from the colleague above. that many frauds often occur if not careful, this is certainly very useful as a very wise appeal, of course.

I only see from the point of view that the cellular is very vulnerable to a lot of viruses that are transmitted and it could be to take our existing data from the cellphone, so I from the start did not feel this was the best solution.
although there may be applications that are really good and can be maintained with a system that is well made

Some wallets give wrong fee estimation. So, make sure you choose one that lets you customize your fees and check the mempool status before setting your fee rate.
I've been using Electrum on Android for years and didn't face any problem with it except the lack of some features such as coin-control and signing/verifying messages.

You are not getting it completely right. If it is electrum on computer, definitely you are right, you can edit the fee by also typing it, you can even edit the fee to be 1 Satoshi/byte.
You can set the fee rate to 1sat/b on the mobile version too by tapping on the fee estimation method and selecting "Static".

If I definitely recommend you to use Trust Wallet, because in my opinion Trust Wallet is the best mobile wallet for now and I also use Trust Wallet, then I recommend you to use Trust Wallet because I think Trust Wallet is very easy to use, simple and of course you can store almost any type of cryptocurrency in Trust Wallet (Bitcoin, ERC20, BEP20, etc.), so you don't need to use multiple wallets to store all cryptocurrency that you have.

Applications on mobile's depends on which country you are staying on since some e-wallets are available only specifically on different countries. On our country, we can only actually use one that can instantly be converted into our own currency and other famous Cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum and Ripple. So I guess the only thing you need to look into first are the locally available e-wallets on your country then decide whether to use a globally available one or the locally available.

Available for Android and iPhone, Mycelium is one of the most widely praised bitcoin wallet apps on the market. Their website claims the wallet offers "bank grade security," but perhaps the most crucial element of their security is its integration with hardware wallet brands like Trezor and Ledger.

I'm seeing a lot of people using Mycelium as their go-to mobile wallet due to its security and user-friendly interface, plus it is also integrateable to hardware wallets which furthers your ease, of access in these wallets without risking your security in a way or another. Been using it since 2017 and so far I haven't experienced anything bad at all.

this is very relative, good according to someone does not mean good for others. We recommend that you try to find a mobile wallet that fits your criteria yourself, please visit https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

you can choose android or ios wallet. You can also determine what features you need the most, as a new or experienced user, then you will get several wallet options that match the features you want.
For example, there are several wallet options for Android for experienced users https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet?step=5&platform=android&user=experienced&important=

I have been using blockchain over the years and its very impressive. You may want to have a look at it only if you can get access to it depending on your location.
Blockchain.com wallet has been seen to have not so good customer service and service to its users. It is impressive if it does not bad to you as you use them.
But experience of others are also considered to be a factor if you'll continuing using them.

Atomic and Electrum IMO...
The advantage of Atomic wallet is I can have a private key from my Bitcoin wallet there, which is very different from other multi-coin wallets. Eletrum supports sending Bitcoin via LN which is currently being used with a fee that is far cheaper than standard sending.

Thx for all recommendations!

until now i use trustwallet and my assets are safe. even to store up to $ 23k in bitcoin is safe as long as mobile security is always maintained and do not let anyone else hold our mobile

Mycelium is one of the best bitcoin wallets.

Choose a wallet that can accommodate not only Bitcoin but other altcoin also , we are lucky here in My country that we have a Wallet that supports 4 cryptos and our fiat so we can choose between them in which the lower transaction fee at a certain time we need to use it.

There is a lot of wallet and exchange on the web. Some of them have low security, some of them have normally secure but some are very well secure. In fact, wallets should have a minimum risk to be hacked by some scammer. There are also many exchanges on the web But exchanges go to shut down without warning or telling any reason. As regard me, I use a meta mask wallet and I think it is a good one with better security.

for bitcoin itself i prefer bluewallet, while for wallets that support multi coins, my choice is safepal and trustwallet.  bluewallet is much more user friendly imo when compared to electrum besides that bluewallet already supports bitcoin lighting network, so it really makes it easier for those who want to transact with LN.

There are many mobile wallets for bitcoin compatible with android. Using bitcoin.org platform, you can chose between many of trusted clients by selecting the operating system you want in addition to all features you need : https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet?step=5
Some other good clients don't appear  in the list. The best one imo are physical wallets which are the most secured ones but i don't really know if you can connect them using an android mobile app.
Personally, i use Electrum client for both Desktop and android phone. It's friendly use for both new comers and experienced users and i suggest you to take a look at it : https://electrum.org/#home

Well for a free bitcoin mobile or desktop wallet this is good advice and I personally use this too. Upon storing my bitcoin I never use multi coins wallet because they are not reliable to store. I always separate my bitcoin to altcoins which is I store for bitcoin wallet only.
Perhaps if you like to choose a low fee in swapping bitcoin to altcoin, Abra wallet is the best choice because I tried it when I needed a small portion of ethereum for gas fee and Abra wallet works fine and the fee seems like the same amount on the network fee.

I never got to try most of those and I think I've only tried 2 or 3 from that list. Many of those are centralized and I don't know that etoro has also a wallet as it's just a platform for trading different markets including crypto.

But beware of blockchain.com's wallet.

There has been a lot of bugs and reports on it in the past and people shouldn't rely on them as a wallet whether mobile or as a web wallet.

Mycelium is one of the oldest and trusted mobile bitcoin wallet , the good thing is you can import or export your backup keys so you can control your bitcoin anytime in short its a non-custodial wallet, spend it anytime you want, you can also customize the fees according to your preference but it may affect confirmation time, I only used suggested fees as it may varies depending on the network status.

So just choose between these given wallet addresses because they are the most trusted by users for long time  now.

I am also a user of Green Address in which have been serving me for couple of years now.

For bitcoin transactions, Segwit wallets are best like Imtoken, trustwallet, Mycellium. For ERC20, I use Metamask on PC, Imtoken on mobile, Imtoken has a better fee advise and more scalable than trustwallet. For BEP20, I use safepal, coin98 and trustwallet. For TRC20, I  use Klever, for Cosmos Hub, I use Keplr, for solana ecosytem, coin98 is better than Math wallet.

Currently, I have two (2) wallets that I am using right now, which are:

  • Coins.ph; and
  • Bitpay.

The reason on why I recommend using a wallet being locally offered in your country is that you can have access into paying payments on service/products. In my case (coins.ph), it offers services where I can directly convert my BTCs to cash, in which I can pay my monthly bills and/or purchase stuff from our local merchants.
On the other hand, I use Bitpay primarily because of bech32 addresss- in which some campaign signatures recommend in using and receiving my funds.

I don't understand why many people suggest to use custodial wallet (exchange) and closed source wallet, the fact both of them are known charge more fees for their profit business/unknown source... it's already wrong suggestion with the @OP asking for cheap fees. It's also a bad choice if you use as own wallet due to hacked history and not safe enough to hold for many years. Don't be careless about security if you don't want to regret in the future.

Rising bitcoin prices and additional transactions have forced these two bitcoin transaction fees to increase. No wallet or exchange will charge Bitcoin fees below $7-$8. You have to accept this if you are using bitcoin. But you can ask which wallet is better for bitcoin hold or transaction.
Here Coinbase is good But it's a bit risky because it has a record of being hacked once before. However, I use my trust wallet maltichain. it is ok for me

I agree with TrustWallet, it's my favorite choice. If I'm not wrong there is Binance behind it, even though of course it's completely decentralized. I just wish they add the address list in the near future because it's annoying that every single time I need to copy past the address...
