Title: Nutildah impersonator on telegram
Post by: Little Mouse on January 05, 2021, 08:01:37 AM
The other day, I had created a thread looking for webmoney and I received a PM in my telegram from nutildah, he said he has webmoney and wants BTC/USDT. I checked his username which is- @nutildah
I had an impression that it was original nutildah from the forum but still I wanted to verify. He sent me his trc20 address through telegram. However, for some reason, I could not send the fund. Later, I pmed him to send his address to my bitcointalk account. He didn’t respond. He came today again in telegram and send me the same trc20 address and asked me to send the usdt. Again, I asked him to pm me in bitcointalk and he cleared all the message history in telegram  ;D
This is the user profile in telegram.

Wondering if the "l" in nutildah is "I". Is it?
It seems like he has used capital letter of "i" instead of small letter of "L"

That's possible. If you check on Nutildah's bitcointalk profile he stated that he is not on Telegram. I hope you don't send funds first next time, otherwise, you'd get scammed for real.

I had same experience with suchmoon impersonator- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5185578.0, that’s why I'm aware of such kind of impersonator but this time I believed it was nutildah because of some other reason and the way he was talking, but as I'm buying and selling btc/bdt, I have the practice of not trusting anyone directly through telegram and asking verification on forum.

It's not new, but problems for newbies. Suddenly they wouldn't realize this is an impersonator. My telegram impersonator already scammed a few users even though I wrote a note on my profile. Everyone should keep in mind either newbies or old users, don't make an off-forum deal with forum users. So, you wouldn't confuse by seeing users green trust and deal out of forum without verifying via the forum PM. Just we need to teach ourselves.

This can be a lesson for all of us that there are indeed many copycats on telagram, they only have a number with a telegram ID to cheat, I think they are now smart and are looking for high and famous account names in this forum to be used as bait, so it's true. You do not agree that outside the forum it is very dangerous. Fraudsters are smarter and cunning in word processing, therefore verifying is very important.

Never transact on telegram and if possible, it's better if you want to exchange something you need, you can go to PM on the forum.

Even I know about this specific from your telegram case clone scamers.

Jesus, there's a lot of this kind of shit going around lately--someone was impersonating me on telegram last week, and I had to put a warning statement in my profile that I don't use telegram because of it.

It's very important for members here (and newbies especially) to be careful when people claiming to be bitcointalk members contact you on telegram or wherever looking to do deals.  I don't think a lot of genuine BCT members actually do that with people they've never dealt with before, so always verify who you're dealing with before sending any funds.  All if takes is a PM to the member on the forum to do that, I would think.

Yep, definitely.  There have been impersonators even on the forum for quite some time, but newcomers might not realize that or even how many scammers there are here.

I consider you lucky here. "For some reason" - whatever it is, you got better luck.
Lesson to lean here is that never accept an address granted when it is sent over any other media than bitcointalk PM. If you really need to accept then ask them to send the address with the signed message of a known bitcoin address in the forum and after only verifying the singed message, complete the deal.

In the COVID-19 project, I always give a donation address via PM and always ask the receiver to send the address via forum PM. Even when they send the address I go to their trust page and check if there are any warning of password and email change.

Update-
The scammer has changed their name into theymos now with username of @theymoss, he had cleared the message history but still is in my chat list. I was looking for a PM and found that theymos is in my chat list too  ;D

I won't be surprised if the person behind @Coolcryptovator's FAKE telegram account (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5281139) is behind this malicious act as well. It looks like she/he has mastered that the capital i and small L almost look the same as I also just discovered  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5281139.msg56029508#msg56029508)yesterday, and it is even worse with certain text formats. It's therefore worth noting that this person is targeting trusted members whose user profiles have a letter L in them.

Haha. This is hilarious. Thanks for letting people know.

I got a random PM a few days ago from somebody asking if I was on Telegram -- good for them for asking! Far too many people don't think to confirm the person they are chatting with is the same person on the forum.

If anything, I should have freaking grabbed that screen name before somebody else did, knowing how frequently Telegram is abused by scammers.
