Title: What is alt season? What does it entail?
Post by: Phantom Investor on January 05, 2021, 07:59:29 PM
I don’t understand what an alt season is other than altcoins growing in price. Why do they grow in price? How do people determine whether an alt season has begun?

Anytime the price of bitcoin is not increasing but altcoin price is increasing, it is called altcoin season. Anytime the price of bitcoin is also not growing including ethereum and litecoin but if most other coins are growing, it is still altcoin season. Which means at the time, Bitcoin will not grow while many other altcoins are growing.

I'll give you an example with the current case:

bitcoin is at $34,000, if btcoin can break that resistance and for example start to rise a lot to the point of reaching $40,000, altcoins will fall in relation to bitcoin. But when bitcoin is stable (less volatile) at $40,000 then altcoins start to rise in relation to bitcoin and their dollar price increases a lot, and this is what they call the altcoin season. At least I always thought that was it!

It is the time when altcoins become unstoppable and massive gains are recoded everyday or in other words the growth in value is simply parabolic. It happens as a part of market cycle and after long bears, it may indicate that the alts were undervalued so a sudden price surge happens to maybe give them real value. Another angle is that because there is huge money flow into btc and eth that money eventually flows into alts causing big pumps called as altseason.

When  we do talk about literally on the term you had mentioned then you do actually had already tell on what it is.

What does it entail? This is on when the market shifts where people who are in bitcoin market will go back to alts market or lets say they can both correlate when it comes to
price trend or movement. Funds that do flow in the market will go into alts which do results into price increases.

This is why some of people do buy up cheap alts when bear market hits because they do presume that there would really be a switch up.

It is because the price of most altcoins is increasing. The dominance of bitcoin has been shared with the altcoins and that's why money flows in them again.
As bitcoin's dominance increases, it's the only coin that benefits because most money is only going to bitcoin. But this time, I consider this as a small altcoin season. Just around 2%+ was reduced to bitcoin's dominance yet the price of bitcoin is staying on $34,000.

When there is a sudden shift, bitcoin being the dominant coin and as per marketcap, still almost 70%. When that gradually reduce to at least 50% and investors moving that 20% to altcoin then definitely we will see the price increasing in proportion to bitcoin.

So currently we're not yet in the altcoin season as obviously bitcoin is still dominating. And almost all altcoin are still way below their previous all time high although Ethereum already break the 4 digits barrier but it need as a lot of money to even break $1400, its all time high.

I never thought Altcoin season has some different definitions cause I thought it was just simply the rise of their prices when bitcoin price is rising as well. The only problem right now is we don't really know if there is a chance to see that this year because to be honest, only a few of those Altcoins are really getting heated this month and some of the other Altcoins are not budging. You will see the Alt season when you visit one day on the Coinmarketcap and you will see there's a lot of green almost every Altcoins you see.

Some altcoins are rising too much in recent weeks but you are right that it is not an altcoin season as not most of altcoins are rising. They rise next-by-next and don't rise at the same day or week.

Moreover, they are rising mainly in their price with USDT, not rising much in BTC. A few altcoins have doubled or trippled their price in BTC and more increases in USDT as price of Bitcoin in USDT is still rising. The altcoin season will only come when people feel safe with bitcoin, don't see bubble burst with bitcoin, then bitcoin is stable price for a while and altcoins might rise all together.

I believe that new definitions will be added when there is a different ending process in the normal way, those definitions are also seen and applied to it by us. Looking at the current state of the market, I'm not sure when and when it will take over. But if it continues as it is now, we will see it soon.

You basically nailed it with your initial statement. The market is now being filled with orders for altcoins and not BTC. If you noticed a couple of days ago, BTC has reached a -19% reaching around $28000+. But for the other markets, it's still in the green. That's just how you can determine it. Right now, we are again in the bullish market for BTC, and a lot of people are pouring their funds again with BTC. There are just a lot of people now buying in, and it's not yet too late. If you have funds to risk, you can take it but remind yourself that there's the actual risk of losing your money.

What altcoins season normally means is that, Bitcoin growth slows down, stops or starts dropping then altcoins are left with more room to grow, but it is very good to know that, the more Bitcoin dominance drops the more altcoins have enough opportunity to grow and the more intense the altcoin season will be.
They grew in price because, some funds which were initially being invested on Bitcoin are being moved towards altcoins, this is why you will experience a drop in Bitcoin price and an increase in altcoins price.
And lastly, the easiest way to determine if an altcoin season has started is, when the market turns green and many altcoins starts growing massively with many experiencing a good increase from their initial price to many also approaching or crossing their All Time High.

Based on my understanding about the so-called alt season when bitcoin dominance is decreasing I hope Op you already know about btc dominance if not its total percentage of bitcoin in all crypto market correct me if Im wrong guys, if its decreasing then the value of btc also decreasing then most traders are liquidating their btc and then buy altcoins when most liquidity and volume from btc transfer to altcoins then probably its the start of alt-season.

You just need to understand that it is the phase of the description of the cryptocurrency market when the capital flow towards the altcoin causes many altcoins to increase sharply.
How do people determine whether an alt season has begun?
What everyone needs to be able to continue participating in the alt season is MONEY. If we don't have money, we can only watch the market and cannot do anything :) . Every time we hear about the Altcoin Season, there are two important questions that we need to answer, in order to stay informed and alert in the investment decision, does the market have a new source of capital? how does Bitcoin's share fluctuate? If the market has new capital, everything will be very "good", the growth cycle will be longer. But if the market does not have new capital, the Altcoin season easily becomes a trap for those who cannot manage greed. Because it's going to happen quickly and will be back to the starting point soon.

How do people determine whether an alt season has begun?

immediately jump into the market and sell your altcoins, this is the moment that is waiting for, that altcoins are on the rise. Remember that despite the rise in altcoins, of course bitcoin is heading for $ 40,000.

Bitcoin Season is coming to an end. Now we just have to wait and be patient for Altcoin Season.
Key is being in Altcoins long before that chart actually hits Altcoin Season (to get maximum profit).

We can wait for that. But we need to wait for more because the price can not always jump to the higher price shortly. We can only prepare our bitcoin by buying it now at the current price while we can do something else and make an alert on our phone, so when the price increase, we can sell it at the target price. But I am still waiting for the altcoin season because I feel that the altcoin season will come soon, and many altcoins will make a new ATH.

It is very difficult to comment on the graphics right now. But Bitcoin dominance hasn't changed and the people is now investing in altcoins. Altcoins may mislead us, but i think Bitcoin will continue to rise  :-\

No. Altcoin season is estimated by the trend of the top 50 altcoin (mainly 75% of the 2nd-50th ranked altcoin) on the market capital so altcoin season cant be calculated by the exclusion of all the two coins you listed and the uptrend have to last atleast 90days but the market trend is not decided by Bitcoin price momentum (cause the investors will only focus on altcoin as investment).

Which means at the time, Bitcoin will not grow while many other altcoins are growing.
Absolutely.

Alt season is when the alt coins will start to pump their prices and the bitcoin dominance will be lowered or it will stay in the reasonable percentage unlike these days that the bitcoin is pretty high which is seating at 68% and it reach to 70 plus percent which is pretty high that will stop the alt season to happen as the increase are mainly focusing at bitcoin only.

Right now I can say that the alt season has been triggered already as the bitcoin dominance is starting to decrease but we are not yet in the middle of the alt season base on what I notice to the market but let's see if what will happen to the upcoming days or months.

Altcoins are trying to climb and break out. It is still far from the point to call it as altcoin season but they already break the one third bottom line (25%). There are 3 figures today.
- Altcoin month indes: 33
- Altcoin season index: 27
- Altcoin year index: 39

I am waiting for the altcoin month index to hit 50 points as it might trigger the capital to flow to altcoins. After that the altcoin season index might hit 50 points and all the game for altcoins will be set.

You know altseason has begun when Bitcon's dominance of the market falls under 50% but by then you will have passed up the best time to buy alts. You need to be buying microcaps like UNCX and 0xMR now while they are affordable.

Alt season is a myth! It doesn't exist and it is purely a made up term to create marketing gimmick. It doesn't mean anything in real life. What really matters is the bitcoin season and not altcoin season! It has been observed that altcoins do rise in value only when bitcoin starts rising! Yes, there are few altcoins sometime are able to create some marketing buzz, but that can't be counted for the whole lot!

So always look for bitcoin and its pricing dynamics. That's what is only worth your time!
