Selling all your shitcoins to buy btc is always a good idea and it is not something to regret, some alts are really not worth holding anyways, you will probably get more value holding btc than keeping the shitcoins.

Short and sweet, I like it.

There are a lot of us who have held if not all but the majority of our BTC through the bear market.

I am a long term Hodler and everything to date which I have Hodled is showing a +, ++, +++, etc.

Have you heard about Didi Taihuttu and his family who sold everything for BTC back in 2016/2017
they have been traveling the world since and are great ambassadors for BTC.

One of their mottos which we can all strive to is:

"the secret of happiness is freedom and the secret of freedom is courage “

https://yolofamilytravel.com/

and @arbiter5 this is something we should all do! Liquidate all unnecessary stuff into BTC [or everything as above!]
I have started this too and I'm not getting hung up on trying to get top $ for the stuff, my aim is to liquidate quickly
because the value is in BTC not in the extra few $'s I should have got for the stuff.

Thanks and congratulations to all holders!

It was not easy to hold  especially in January 2019 when we were in the bottom!

But I would be careful before buying bitcoin now at all time high. Keep some money to buy in the upcoming months, we might have a correction

Haha, well done OP. Just, a small thought to not put all in. I'm pretty confident you'll be okay in a few more years even if you did, but it's always good to have some eggs in other baskets, too. Unless you're free and alone and have no other people to pay for possible consequences of course!

And oh, not your keys, not your coins. But you know that, right?;)

Quarantine is hard for everyone and therefore I do believe you sold for a good reason, btc is indeed hit an all time high and I had to sell everything I owned in 2k19.

Therefore missed out on this big opportunity but then again I bought some and sold them few days before at 38k.

It was a good decision since not all of us are Elon musk. Haha!

Security before everything ofcourse,  kudos to you for making such a huge profit.

Let's save some more and buy again in 2021 itself because who knows where it's gonna go next.

Rest I'm also thinking of invest in dogecoin and ETH but ofcourse the major savings will be in BTC.

I have hold on to the worthless altcoins I have though and now it's something worth already like $300+ I couldn't believe some are buying the token but yeh anyway, I might just dump it as well now that I have the chance to earn and hold BTC instead.

It's embarrassing already to show the wallet that contains the token I hold for 5 years, I guess it's time.

2x in profit is sweet, 3x profit is sweeter, 4x in profit is the sweetest at these moments. Although it can be more than those times that we can see with the current price of bitcoin in the future. But everyone deserves to take the profit as they want to.
But just to make sure that you're never out of the market while having those sweet, sweeter, and sweetest profits. It's an unending market that we have entered and bitcoin is projecting to hit 6 digits for its price.

I didn't survive the '18-'20 bear market as I have a family with needs and expenses, but still, I hold some coins.

Good luck with the new holding.

alts are not safe for me to hold long term. your decision to convert it to BTC may be worth in the years to come. most alts have no active app, thats why they go downhill. whereas, no one can beat the popularity of BTC up until now. it is the frontrunner among these cryptocurrencies, so you can never go wrong with this decision.
i admire those holders who kept their btc for so many years, and cashing out just today. that means, they never lose hope with btc after all those years. or maybe, they have other sources of funds why they didnt cash out. lucky for them.

At one point, I remember I had approximately 2.5 to 3 BTC worth of shitcoins and then 2018 bear market happened  ;D
That's when I learnt a hard lesson, to always think about Bitcoin first. The March 2020 price drop came with as a second chance and with the profits I have made so far. I must say it feels good.

Uh oh.  Stories like this make me cringe just a wee bit, because during the last runaway bull market there were people selling all kinds of things so as to finance bitcoin purchases.  I do hope for your sake that if you sold things, you really didn't need them.

If I thought it'd do any good whatsoever I'd caution against catching bitcoin fever so bad that when you look around your house you don't start asking yourself 'I wonder how much bitcoin I could get for this?'.  And it ain't because I'm not bullish on bitcoin because I am.  Fully and completely.  But I am happy with the meager amount that I own and don't wish to sell everything I have to invest in BTC

Be careful out there, 'cause it's a crazy market indeed.

It did really take a lot of patience and self control for you to reach this goal where you do able to held up your coins upto now.

Considering on how many pumps and dump that we had saw enclosed into those years then its really hard not to make any further actions  towards that.

If you do still able to held up and able to accumulate specially into those low prices then for sure you are really making some tons of profits as of this moment.

Time to sell? This will be a considerable action and that waiting did really pays off.

40K$ per btc is totally a very wise and good decision actually had been made. I had been too buying btc in 2018 and then sell it low after bitcoin market crashes and I was thinking of it as bitcoin will going to end. Actually,  I am depressed that I did not even get also the chance of recovering it this bull trend. Probably, because I already afraid of losing again now I am focus on bounty hunting wanting to recover the losses I made before.

LOL... so the OP purchased more coins at $40,000 per coin. It takes a lot of courage, to go for an asset when it is at ATH, especially when everyone is talking about an impending correction. I personally know a few people who purchased BTC at close to the then ATH levels in 2017. Only one of them held on to the coins when the prices crashed in 2018. And the others are regretting their decision to get rid of their holdings.

A lot of people waiting for the altcoins to follow.

Ever since the price of Bitcoin rallied to what it is right now, people are asking when will altcoins follow. Some altcoins are having their good price movements right now and I don't know how many will follow but I will still stand with Bitcoin. If people just rode the price at $3K, they'll have 12x more of what they have at that time.

That's a long time of hodling. And I'm impressed you weren't tempted to sell even just a little within those five long years. Because even I'm just holding for like more than a year, I'm slightly being tempted to do so especially with the current price but.....

Lol, not that I wanted it that way, but I came here to read something like "I finally sold my Bitcoin." Anyway, I'm happy for you having bought more bitcoin, and if you'll take my advised; hodl your Bitcoin even if the price looks enticing, it'll have greater value soon.
.. thanks for this dude. I know this message is meant for op, but I'll also take the liberty to take that advice. This is just what I need to keep my self from selling. I'll be more patient and wait for that "greater value" soon.

Congratulations my friend. You are already a legend having btc for five years is not a joke. Actually you have a good hands and good patience especially when the market for bitcoin was crashing im which btc almost went down to 3K$. I thought that bitcoin will going to end. I was afraid that time then later on regret that I sell my bitcoin at low price. So sad but it really hurt me deep inside of fail investment.

That was a good move buddy, you have done. a good thing to your life, believing and holding bitcoin for a long term is such a good thing, if you have invested your money 3 years from now then for sure you have already gained huge profit. Selling shitcoins and buying bitcoin is such a good decision, I have already done the same thing but I still keep on hodling it and wait for some time before I pull it out.

Title: Re: A Confession: After 5 years of hodling, I finally sold

If you were selling bitcoin at this high price, you make a lot of profit, congratulations, and recover your losses. If you sell your altcoin while the price does not increase so high, you can not make a big profit if the price does not hit the highest price than the price you bought the coin. But if you want to buy back bitcoin, I suggest you wait for a while until the dips come, so you do not buy bitcoin at a high price. It is not easy to hold the coins for more than 5 years.

It is not easy to hold the coins for more than 5 years.
5 years in holding isn't an easy thing to do honestly, and we can't make it if we are thinking that crypto investment gives us returns instantly. This simply burns us holding for that long and even 1-2years is already a big challenge for us, especially for impatient people.
That to say that not all have that kind of thinking, not all have the guts to hold for that long.

Congratulations to those holders who never miss this opportunity. The price is so crazy and the rewards of their long-long wait are very sweet.
I'm in early seller but still thankful that I'm still profiting.

This is very good idea to sell all shit coin and buy some bitcoin because bitcoin dust is more profitable than other shit coin in high value.
At this time bitcoin crossed 41k and 50k+ is next goal to be achieved. I hope bitcoin will get this in short time.
Shit coin is very less profit able this why i always buy bitcoin and didn't care of shit coin in my wallet.

I will wait for bitcoin to reach $45k again, I didn't sold my bitcoin when it reached that price because I though that it can reach $50k mark.

I'm pretty sure now that I'll sell my bitcoin when it reaches $45k and there's no turning back that's why I'm patiently waiting here.

This is really what we are waiting for, some maybe sold their bitcoin at $20k, $30k, or $40k, but for me, I'll just have my own decisions and preferences to make my holding profitable.

By this reconing nobody will be buying BTC going forward until it drops back
to a "corrected" value, which isnt true

Look at this thread > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5304522.0

Title - Are people buying BTC @ $27000+ idiots?

Well we might not see $27000 again, same as $40000 in the not too distant future.
There is talk of a "correction" but that might not happen until $80k or $120k.

Selling all your shitcoins to buy btc is always a good idea and it is not something to regret, some alts are really not worth holding anyways, you will probably get more value holding btc than keeping the shitcoins.

That's why I also invested on ETH and it is really giving some of us a huge profit, bitcoin is not the only cryptocurrency who are in a bullish market so try to widen your investments. If you think that a certain altcoin is really just a shitcoin then do not invest on it. Always prioritize your bitcoin because it can hardly affect your cryptocurrency investment as it is really the most popular ones because it is approaching the mainstream. Be mindful and always updated on when you will sell those coins. Always monitor the market and keep up depending on your desired price.

How many altcoins are even really worth it, and how many can even last a year let alone 5 years, therefore I think if you sold your altcoins in order to have more Bitcoin, that it is a good decision. Also, on the other hand, there are every possiblity of missing out on Bitcoin at a point, maybe not buying on the right time, as one might thought and instead of waiting you can also buy good altcoins like Ethereum in order to participate in the bull run and later sell to get more Bitcoin. The thing is, many people uses different strategies to get more Bitcoin in their portfolio, some could be through trading, some through investing in new projects then selling to Bitcoin, some through selling shitcoins and so on, therefore in all, it is seen that Bitcoin is the most  valuable to hold at anytime, thus any of these decisions taken towards getting more is always a good one in my own opinion.

I have the same opinion as well. Everyone is talking about a correction, because that's what happened to Bitcoin after it reached ATHs previously in 2013 and again in 2017. But current circumstances are different. Back then, the prices went up mostly as a result of hype and at the slightest trigger the users went for profit booking and that tanked the prices. But this time, there is a solid reason for the rally. On top of that, most of the purchases are being made by institutions and they are less susceptible to panic selling.

it would be very weird and possibly even naive to "hold" during 2018 and 2019 when the price was at its lowest! during these years people should have "bought" bitcoin instead of just holding.

it is like seeing the Christmas sale with a lot of discounts and avoiding any purchase until the special event ends and prices go back up then start buying at higher prices!
the day price fell below $10k i said "this is a discount" then again i told people that "below $6k is an ultra discount". now look where we are :D

What a profitable joke if in case it happened in reality, 5 years of holding will take a lot of courage for sure especially at the time that we hit the bear season where the bitcoin price decreases pretty deep.

But if in case there are people who were able to hold for 5 years and was able to sell their asset at this time then I fully salute them as they are a true holders and a believer to the bitcoin capability. Cheers to all who investors who were able to profit in bitcoin investment.

I agree. I doubt BTC will be able to stay in this price range for a long period though. In my opinion, it will probably drop back in the $30K - $35K range after a couple of months after which it will slowly start rising again steadily.

This drop will most likely not resemble the 2018 drop since there are many supporting factors this time around like COVID, PayPal, Institutional support etc.

Whatever the case, I don't see BTC returning to 4 figures anytime in the future unless something catastrophic happens.

Congratulations, I think this is worth the effort and wait, the award has been more than wonderful for all those who have held Bitcoin from 2018 until now, I think this lesson should be used by everyone, I mean, after a short period of time Bitcoin will return to decline and then the opportunity will be very appropriate To hold Bitcoin again and wait the next four years until we get a bigger prize than this prize.

That means did you sell your alts at a loss, i am yet to convert some of the alt coins i am holding as i am looking for the perfect market to drop everything and i am not sure whether this is the right moment to hold everything in BTCitcoin, i might hold in my local currency valuation in the exchange till the next correction and will enter once again till the bull cycle starts again.

Epic year we would be excited of, if Bitcoin at the end of 2021 have an all time high again, but corrections might have another thought for Bitcoin,  but for bitcoiners like your self must have seen many corrections, rising and free falling, but for -newbies- that have only known Bitcoin this exciting time don't regret if the price drop, less you regret why you did not hold after the dropped price picks on again.

It was really a tough one having such long patience to wait for so long up until Bitcoin undergo recovery and good thing all of the patience exerted have been paid off because the long wait and tight hold have all been worth it because of the current market situation that most of the tough holders have been benefited and gained their profit multiple times. Many people will say holding is just an easy way to gain profit but actually it is not because the temptation of selling your assets to fund out your needs on daily life is a very hand decision to be done. The idea of selling shitcoins to fund yourself on purchasing Bitcoin is also a good idea because instead of being useless, they become useful source of fund somehow to fund what is more beneficial which is to get along engaging with Bitcoin.

It needs a big effort to hold that coin without knowing if that coin can make good movements or stay at a low price for more years. But as many of us already stay at the crypto world for at least more than 2 years, we should know that we do not need to hold a coin for a long time, except holding bitcoin, and we should sell the coin when the price reaches the highest price. I am sure we will have that opportunity to sell our coin at the highest price, but we need to be patient.

..all the unnecessary shit I have so I could buy more bitcoin!

kthxbai.

PS to the hodlers who held through the 2018-2020 bear market, congratulations. you deserve it.
Good for you. Sell all the shits you have (shitcoins in particular) so you can buy Bitcoin.

Congrats to those holders especially for those who bought Bitcoin in 2018 and in March 2020 where Bitcoin is at its lowest. You're the ones who are experiencing the most amount of profit as of now :). As on my part, selling is never an option for me right now since I have a target year to hold my Bitcoins :).

With the continuous improvement of blockchain technology, I think the price of bitcoin will also increase. It is not only a profitable currency, but also an idea worth preaching, because it can make you think of a lot
