Title: Where are the GPUs? Tips welcome.
Post by: OgNasty on January 11, 2021, 10:23:18 PM
I’ve been trying to get my hands on a 5700xt or 3080 at msrp for a while now with no luck. I admittedly haven’t put in much work other than searching websites and clicking the alert me when in stock button, so I’m wondering if anyone out there has some tips or tricks to get their hands on these GPUs. Feel free to share your success stories going forward as we all fight each other for available stock like it’s Black Friday and the doors just swung open. Thanks!

I’m in the same boat. Can’t seem to find any anywhere apart from scalpers on ebay. Ideally a 3080FE is what I’m after.

Important thing, where are you from?

There are some tricks you can use to have a chance to buy, like twitter bots that tweets everytime a GPU enter on stock - this option will depends on which country you live

You can use Distill Web monitor: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/distill-web-monitor/inlikjemeeknofckkjolnjbpehgadgge?hl
This is a Chrome extension, you can select the page of GPUs on your web site of preference, and the extension will notify you when the store make any change on that page

With these 2 options you can increase your chance to buy some GPUs, I only bought with these tools

This video on youtube can help you too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBBnkHPGQ4w
It's a live stock alert, and if you look on text, there are some info about twitter and discord alerts

I know it's not easy to do this, but scalpers are using bots to buy, so it's better to use the same tools

And the alert of websites are not working properly, because some people manage to buy in a few minutes, no time to send alerts

Currently in stock for the new tarrif msrp.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1507127-REG/asus_rog_strix_rx5700xt_o8g_gaming_rog_strix_radeon_rx.html

Edit to add I picked up a couple and am hoping I regret not getting the limit of 5.  Took about 30 minutes to sell out.

What kind of website is this? Looks like a scam platform to me, anyways Im sure that ognasty isn't a new member on this forum so I expect him to know better, the fact is you can't get RX5700XT at it's MSRP again, not even now that Ethereum is surging and mining is even more profitable lol

I just went through msi official website now and I shows that this bhphotovideo.com is one of its trusted retailers, sorry for the wrong comment, as for other stores on msi they've sold out all their rx5700xt, it's going to be tough to get this card at msrp price

AMD official website leads me to tmall.com, though its a Chinese store and I've been able to buy few gpus at cheaper price over there compare to amazon or ebay where price are too high, if you don't have anything against chinese websites you can give tmall.com a try

Also I was able to find few RX5700XT for 400$ on the website, you can also go through reviews from verified buyers just like many reliable stores online, for safety purpose I only buy products that have reviews/comments only

There's a worldwide shortage for all kinds of chips (https://www.hebergementwebs.com/hardware/chip-shortage-continues-in-2021).
From what I've seen (already in Nov-Dec 2020), the computers and parts are scarce and overpriced. And it's by far not the only industry affected.
Maybe this sheds a bit of light why you have to search way more than normal and get ready to pay more.

I was planning on buying a mining rig with 6x RX5700 or RX5700XT but I noticed that the price are way too high because of bull season we are in, I'd rather wait for bear market to begin before building the mining rig, this way I will get the card for cheaper price

Hi ognasty, i suggest you wait for bear market to come again, gpu price will be more affordable at the time, buying now doesn't make any sense because ROI is what matters the most here, you can't find RX5700xt at a reasonable price right now, you gotta wait

The same problem. It 2017 i could buy on Ebay, Amazon... Now i cant buy anything for normal price and quantity. 3060ti - $800, 5700 - $650-700... I don`t ready to but GPUs for such a price.

For me, it doesn't make sense to wait a bear market to buy cards to mining
I agree GPUs prices are insane, and it's good to find good deals, but at MRSP it's impossible at the moment, even manufacturers will increase price due to the scarcity of components

The moment to make profits is now, I prefer to pay more on GPUs and gain more money, instead of buy with discount of 10% or 15% but gaining 10x less in a bear market

This is something to think, and I'll say again, I disagree with prices, but there are people paying more for GPUs but making profits and in a few months the GPUs will be paid

Maybe, just maybe, we will find some GPUs at the launch of new Nvidias

I have a friend in the States with the same problem, he said the he wanted to buy PS5 for a very long time but amazon was out of stock all the time so he found a guy selling it localy. This guy had a trading bot for Amazon which buys automatically when things come up on Amazon, and he is not the only one.. they do this with almost everything videocards as well and then they sell those on double price even more.

620 dollars is an excellent price, in Russia this video card costs 200 dollars more.
I’m even ready to ignore the fact that this video card has a Power Connector 2 x 8-Pin.
It is very strange that these video cards are still available.
Long delivery to my country will override all the advantages of the price.

Hm you nailed it friend, it's a must for people to do good calculations before buying mining equipments and right now fast ROI is certain, the early the better, but if you are from a country where electricity isn't stable don't bother investing on miners right now, If you are from a country where electricity is available 24/7 I don't see reasons why you waiting around, you will make your money back for sure

I'm in the USA and sadly not near a Microcenter unless I'm staying with family, but if you have a Microcenter near you join their unofficial discord channel and join the general chat for the store near you.

The people in line will let you know what comes in and some will take a picture of stock when they pick their items up.  People are lining up at midnight to 5:30 am to get the 3080's but sometimes the 3070 or 3090's last till open and I have recently seen a pretty good shipment of 5600xt cards left after open.

I got on it early and mine was confirmed :).

Only bought 1....just wanted to try a 3060ti out.  And that the first time ive seen them close to retail $399.

Will arrive 1/19~1/22

Looks like that had about 600 coming in.  Also appears they have some 6800XT coming but $1300 is too much for me.
They showed delivering the same time frame.

It will get better at some point...but im seeing chip shortages all over different industries not just gpu...ram and even automotive silicon is in short supply.

Nice! Congrats!  I got one to and got a tracking number.  They lasted about 40 minutes I think.  I like it when I can catch a newegg card on ebay as the bots aren't set up to snatch them all in advance.

I think it was 1 per buyer anyway...

You can't find good deals anywhere online right now, all good deals have sold out already, I spent over 2 hours going from one store to another through retailers but none is available, Msrp isn't no more, the best advice I can suggest is wait for RTX3060 12gb that will be available anytime from now and also it's msrp price is around 369$ or so.

If the market stays up like it is...i doubt they will be sold at msrp....but i hope so.  I expect the plain 3060 will not be as fast as the ti.  But will need to get them to see.

It's a shame that gpu are now too over priced, I waited for months to gather the money for mining rig and solar power since electricity isn't reliable in my own country, now I'm set but the gpu price are just way too high for me

Also check out twitter and discord groups for in stock notifications.

Only place right now without over paying I would say its your local Craiglist/Kijiji/Facebook Marketplace. The issue is that most people, but not all know there is a shortage and they want to take advantage. This is why you see GPUs basically for 50% over MSRP pretty much for used gear.

However there are people out there, who just want to get rid of old gear because they don't want it sitting around collecting dust that they just sell at a fair price. Problem is you gotta pick them up ASAP. Because they will find it odd, why there is someone asking "Is it still available" every 30 minutes after its been listed. Some people will realise that "Obviously I am asking too little" and they will remove the ad, relist it again at a higher price. However there are people out there that just want it sold and will sell it at a good price to you.

OP won't stand a chance with Used GPU because the minimum price for a used RX5700XT is 600$ on ebay, new gpu is now over 700$ to 1200$, the price keeps growing everyday, miners are the reason this is happening right now, if Ethereum mining become less profitable the price of gpu will start going down once again

There’s always the chance of getting new gpu stock at msrp. It’s just more and more difficult as resellers have their livelihood at stake in times like this while the rest of us are just trying to make a few extra bucks and keep warm.

Title: Re: Where are the GPUs? Tips welcome.

Yeah I checked my local Craiglist and its getting pretty ridiculous to be honest. I think its worse now than it was in 2018. Basically in my area you got people who are reselling their GPUs at a 50% markup and they don't even have them in their possession yet. They are claiming that Amazon will deliver on such and such day and time and its yours for a huge markup.

This reminds me of the iPhone 4/4s/5 and iPad launch days. People would basically camp outside the apple store and buy max quantity which was usually 2 phones and later resell them on eBay and Craigslist for double. And surprisingly people actually paid that much. However I remember reading those eBay listings and people would basically make the auction BEFORE they actually had the phone in hand.

Wonder how much longer this will last.

I will have to stop looking because I've been on this for days now and no luck so far, maybe I will come back after crypto market is going down (bear season) which I'm so sure that many will be selling off their gpu for cheaper price then

If you are in the USA Best Buy usually drops the current gen gpu cards every other Tuesday and tomorrow people are saying should be a good day as the last drop was 1-05-21.

9am to 1pm EST with 10-12 being the "hot" times.  Lot of chatter on discords and twitter about it.  If you look you can find some tips for success.  Not gonna get enough to fill a multi-gpu rig but you have as good a shot as any to get your share of 1 or 2 3000 or 6000 series.

This probably is your best bet if you want to buy new because it seems like tons of work and im sure most people are way too lazy to go to a store and wait until they get a shipment and put it on the shelf. However I am pretty sure the employees working there might buy them out and re-sell them on Craiglist later in the day.

How are the prices at best buy? Are they at MSRP or are they marked up? Most computer stores in my area are greedy and instead of limiting the quantites they basically jack up the price 50% higher and eventually they find some buyer desperate enough to pay. Its a bad practise and they don't care if they get a bad reputation as a result. They probably make tons more money selling at a mark-up than at the MSRP which yields very little profit.

Best buy did their drop on Friday 1-22.  They don't sell in store right now.  Just do on line for instore pickup.  Once the distro center that feeds your area is out of stock your opportunity is gone.  Best Buy has good but frustrating bot protection so most go to real users and prices are MSRP.

You would be surprised at how many people will camp out right now.  I follow the Microcenter discord for the one in Denver that's close to my brother's work and they line up the night before on days that trucks come in right now.

In stock 5500xt 8gb for $209 as I type this
