Title: Best Crypto Browser Extensions 2021
Post by: dkbit98 on January 13, 2021, 12:57:38 PM
Browser extensions can be very useful especially for crypto users but please be careful what extensions you are using and installing and if possible try to use ones that are open source.

This are some browser extensions (and alternatives) I am using myself more or less on daily basis:

  • Crypto Price Ticker: Showing crypto prices in Chrome browser toolbar for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Polkadot, BitcoinCash, Ripple; left click opens Binance exchange (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/crypto-price-ticker/fdoanglfpolkbiecojimldfagdgfonpn)
  • *Crypto Ticker: Showing current cypto prices in Firefox browser toolbar for 1,500+ cryptos; left click selects any coin and fiat (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/crypto-ticker/?utm_source=addons.mozilla.org&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=search)
  • Metamask: Ethereum based wallet; download only from official website! (https://metamask.io/)
  • Ethereum Gas Prices: Showing ethereum Gas price ticker from multiple sources for Chrome and Firefox browser (https://github.com/unspentio/ethereum-gas-prices-browser-extension)
  • *DeFi Saver Gas Prices: Showing safe low, standard and fast ethereum gas prices, notifications for Chrome and Firefox browser (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/defi-saver-gas-prices/?utm_source=addons.mozilla.org&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=search)
  • *Ethereum Gas Price Extension: Showing slow, standard, fast and rapid ethereum Gas prices from multiple sources, for Chrome and Firefox browser (https://github.com/nieldlr/ethereum-gas-price-extension)
  • *Fireth: Showing safe low, standard, fast and instant ethreum Gas price, notifications for Chrome and Firefox browser (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/fireth/nganaoejibmmoecajmpimkgmbkhfmhoj)
  • Breadcrumbs Blockchain Investigate: Tracking Ethereum addresses (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/breadcrumbs-blockchain-in/dlnalaneihafdkdcekejdekiclgdghka)
  • Liquality Wallet: Supporting Bitcoin, Ethereum assets and atomic swaps (https://liquality.io/)
  • Presearch: Search internet and get paid in PRE tokens (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/presearchorg-search-exten/inpoelmimmiplkcldmdljiboidfkcfbh)
  • Lolli: Earn Bitcoin when you shop online (limited regions available) (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lolli-earn-bitcoin/?utm_source=addons.mozilla.org&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=search)
  • BPIP extension: Bitcointalk BPIP website enhancement for Chrome and Firefox browser (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5224821.0)
  • BTC Mempool Fees Extension: Showing estimated fees for Bitcoin (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5312406.0)

(I would like to have some extension that would show Bitcoin Mempool in similar ticker way like there are extensions for ethereum gas price... any devs willing to make this? :) )

Beware of many fake and malicious extensions and wallets and always double check sources when installing anything!

Some extensions can reduce your privacy so it is better to do your own research and use minimal number of extensions or no extension at all if you are not sure.

(*) Alternative extension with same or similar function as previous one

I only have Metamask from the list. Instead of downloading extensions for price tickers and gas trackers, I just bookmark websites like preev (for BTC), Coingecko and ethgasstation for quick access. I'm curious though, have you compared the gas price suggested by the extensions and ethgasstation.info?

of some of the browser extensions that you mentioned I only use Metamask to enter my Ethereum wallet, but that is also very rare, because the main use is on my smartphone device. Browser extensions do provide convenience. However, some fake browser extensions also need to be watched out for, I got to know a dangerous fake browser extension like metamask which will retrieve the private key using a phishing method. Staying alert and always checking what will be used on the device is the first thing to do. Privacy is very important so that data remains safe.

I would add an adblocker (I like ublock)

There are many advertisements which are phising sites and scams. You will have a better and safer internet experience without any ad, specially if you have cryptocurrencies (there are a lot of phising sites , and some will be blocked)

Isn't it that having lots of extension installed on your browser is more susceptible to hacking, hijacking incidents of your personal credentials such as wallet or passwords, private keys etc..? Though I could not agree more that most of these extension are extremely handy to save some time searching a particular site, however, I think it could expose your device from malicious attacks.

Most of the extension that I have installed are from the recommendations of this site.

Anyhow, thanks for listing the BPIP extension -- I never thought that it has an existing extension.

I would like to use normal forum, no extensions as I am not a tech guru so I don't know what is built, attached, hidden in extensions and don't prefer to take risks. Extensions are built from reputable members or groups can be trusted (if you trust them) but as said, I don't have vital need to take risks.

Beware of installing random browser extensions.
Some may be infected or have some flaws that will put your privacy or computer in danger.
I saw some on the lists that may not be important to really install it in your browser especially you really not using them always, some of them have some website that you may just visit if you want to know some information, just like checking the Ethereum gas for transaction.
It may just let your browser be more slow if you will just install ton of extentions even not necessary. But thanks for the list, I will check and try some of them.

This is a really big list of Chrome extensions. But, knowing Google I would avoid most of them as I do not believe in their authenticity. Plus for most of those mentioned extensions, there are genuine & trusted websites available. Out of the listed extensions I only use Metamask as it came in the form of an extension in the beginning rest I would ignore.

Perhaps the OP had in mind working in a browser for cryptographic purposes. You can always have multiple browsers. Yes, I agree that the Chrome browser is insecure, but it is convenient for other purposes.
Everyone's favorite Firefox also put forward a proposal for deplatforming (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deplatforming).
https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2021/01/08/we-need-more-than-deplatforming/

Anonymity and confidentiality are becoming a very difficult decision for ordinary users. By allowing free add-ons, we also allow those add-ons to collect all sorts of information about us.
I would suggest using Firefox Multi-Account Containers (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/multi-account-containers/) and separating different interests in these profiles.

Some people might find it useful, but what's the point of using multiple extension have same function (find good gas price/cryptocurrency price tracker)? It's like installing uBlock and AdBlock altogether.
I am not using all of them of course, but I tried them all and chose one that use least memory and I can check source code :)
Someone else may like alternative extension more.

Actually I only have few extensions installed for everyday use, and one is BTC price ticker, other is for ethereum GAS, metamask, then BPIP extension, and I use uBlock origin but it is not crypto related.

I added note 'alternative' now.

As of now I am only using BPIP extension from that list and used few others in the past but not in need of those so I don't have them on my primary notebook. I am also had the same thought after seeing the list, we need some kind of extension to show the transaction fee tracking for bitcoin an wonder why we still don't have them when we even have for ethereum! ::)

We have been working on creating simple extension for monitoring and checking Bitcoin fees on your browser and we came up with BTC Mempool Fees Extension/add-on for Firefox/Chrome browser (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5312406.0).
It is showing estimated Bitcoin fees using 3 source websites mempool.space (https://mempool.space/), bitcoiner.live (https://bitcoiner.live/) and blockchain.com (https://www.blockchain.com/).
Following this extension you can potentially save fees when sending Bitcoin and monitor mempool on ticker whenever you are browsing internet.

Feel free to test it and post your feedback and suggestions in original topic (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5312406.0).
