there are some funds 'pegged' to the price, but not backed by the coin.

this means what you are buying is a gambling ticket with a buy price. its not actually buying or reserving bitcoin.

true ETF's probably will spring up this year.
regulators do not want the small businesses to get first mover advantage. they want the big wallstreet guys to have the first accepted true bitcoin ETF's and these are taking along time to go through application processes.
hense why 'when etf' has been a question for years

but once the first mover gets it. other smaller companies can use that application as a template for their own versions. thus streamlining the acceptance process if they follow the first mover application like an ingredient list.

It does not matter if ETF is approved in 2021 or not. Bitcoin is still strong without ETF approval. Since institutional are involved in bitcoin and we are moving towards mass adoption, the approval of ETF is not significant anymore.

In 2017 there is a lot of speculation with bitcoin ETFs and all rejected, that affected the price drastically.
I agree with you that it currently does not affect the price, but I am convinced that if you approve an ETF it would affect the price in a positive way and the institutional money would enter with a greater volume this year.

I hope so, i know white shirt involvement in bitcoin steps away from its very ethos but an approved ETF would make the price fly up. It’s something I’ve thought about for a while. New decision makers have been appointed now too so there’s more chance of an approval than previously.

But weren't those proposals have been withdrawn already by them?

I think this is the perfect year for an approved bitcoin ETF

ETF is still very important because if it approved that this will open a way for the institutions to invest more in the bitcoins through many channels. Currently there are only few ways like grayscale where institutions can buy bitcoins and keep them in their balance sheet. I hope EFT is approved in this year.
