Title: What's a standard clean tasting vodka?
Post by: KonstantinosM on January 16, 2021, 03:48:55 PM
Vodka is basically just water and ethanol. Just like distilled water, some brands taste really clean and other taste like shit. The difference is only the impurities and nonsense. The chemical off smells et cetera.

My taste in distilled water is Dasani if I can get it. They probably just have the higher quality plastic and slightly better filters.

With that in mind. What's a good clean tasting Vodka.

I don't really drink often so I want to buy a couple of bottles so I'm set for the next couple of years.

I used to drink bacardi 151 but it's been discontinued :(

Also where I'm at the sale of 190 proof things is forbidden (State of Florida). So I can't buy anything that's way overproof.

Stolichnaya - honestly it’s really smooth and can be drunk neat . Very nice with some lime juice too  :)

I don't know anything about vodka, but I do know that Goslings still makes an excellent 151. Dunno if it's available in Florida, though.

151 is the maximum limit they're allowed to sell you in Florida so it should be available.

...Checking...

One of the local stores here has it. But... I liked the bacardi 151 because it really didn't have much flavor to it.
I'll probably try it anyway

I'll try it out.

If we're talking cocktails my favorite thing is gin and tonic, but I can't find tuborg tonic water anywhere in the states.
Tuborg doesn't have any sweeteners natural or artificial so it tastes really strong and bitter but in a really good way.

There was a tonic water that claimed to have no sugar or artificial sweeteners but it turns out it has stevia extract in it.

I guess I'd have to buy tonic bitters and mix it with club soda and then I'd get the G&T I like.

I don't know about other brand because we usually drink (With my friends) is SMIRNOFF in which presented by an Old friend back in College time and until now we love having that if we wanted to get drunk sometimes.

Because we are a Beer Lover but there comes a time that we need stronger and that is when SMIRNOFF comes.

yes vodka is composed of water and ethanol (food alcohol?) the best in my opinion is that of plum (with the addition of aroma / juice) of plum which is almost as strong as whiskey

I am not a big time drinker but I will enjoy a occasional vodka drink.
For me my top choices for drinking Vodka are-

Belvedere (poland)
Grey Goose (french)
Ketel One (dutch)

https://www.titosvodka.com/

I'm not a huge vodka drinker myself.  I much prefer tequila, rum, or beer.  That being said, when I'm out and about with friends it seems like Tito's is the vodka brand they get most hyped over as I ask the bartender to pour me another shot of 1800.

For me a tasty vodka is absolute vodka. You can get it almost anywhere and it's decently priced. They have different variants with a lot of flavours added but you can still get the plain vodka without any special ingredients.

KonstantinosM, I feel for you!
It's very sad when they stop releasing something you've loved for years!

I tried the stolichnaya. I really like the bottle look shape and size. Beautiful glass bottle.

It's good, especially compared to what I remember svedka tasting like.

It's not perfect which is surprising. I wish I could get an ethanol azeotrope so I could water it down in distilled water and taste it as a frame of reference.

Other than the burning ethanol should taste slightly sweet.

I don't know if what I'm tasting is something that dissolves in the alcohol during production, or if there's chemicals that get distilled with alcohol and can't be removed.
There's definitely a lot of things allowed in vodka. 0.2% sugar is one of them. I bet there's allowances for all sorts of minerals too.

I wonder if methanol tastes the same as ethanol,

Of course if you were to drink methanol, you could die, it takes a very small amount to cause serious damage. But I wonder if the taste of ethanol and methanol is different or the same.

Maybe the amount of methanol even at the smallest concentrations makes a difference. But perhaps modern methods mean that there is no methanol in any decent vodka.

I don't know.

If there is some methanol smell in the stoli, maybe methanol itself would have a stronger methanol smell and having some side by side would make a good comparison.

I remember actually smelling alcohol that claimed to be above azeotrope concentration 98% and it didn't smell like methanol. The stoli does smell like there is a little methanol in it.

I'm probably just wrong, and I don't really care enough to investigate either way. Maybe one day.

I'm drinking only vodka and here are the good once i drank recently:
Beluga - a little expensive.
Grey Goose- again a little expensive and get you more drunken than Beluga.
ЦAPCКAЯ BOДКA - cheaper and really nice i suggest it if you drink much, but you doesn't so you can buy one of these two.

Russian Standard is getting me ''drunk as a skunk'' :D I prefer something light but it's hard to find not expensive and good one this is why I'm trying and searching thru the brands for some kind that is good for my pocket and liver :D

Tried and true.

It's gonna take me a while to get something else. But sometime in the next 2-3 years I'll just go out of state and buy enough 191 proof liquor for decades to come.
