Title: Using 2 wallets simultaneously (Electrum and BlueWallet)
Post by: iskander17 on January 16, 2021, 07:41:07 PM
Hi, recently i created a wallet on electrum and bought some btc. About a week ago i downloaded BlueWallet for android and imported my wallet using a seed which electrum has given me upon creating a wallet.
There are no issues so far but i don't get one thing, when i tap "receive" on my BlueWallet app, the address is not the same as the one i have in electrum, why is that?

That address should belong to your wallet. Launch Electrum, select "View -> Show Addresses", go to "Addresses" tab and see if that address is listed there. Alternatively, you can enable the console ("View -> Show Console") and type "ismine("address")" into it. If the console returns true then that address belongs to your wallet for sure.

All is right, just checked the address bar in electrum and there are 32 addresses, one of them matches the one i get in BlueWallet so it's all right.

Generally speaking,  it was a  bad idea  to use Electrum SEED with BlueWallet app on Android as  it threatens your privacy. I don't want to reiterate why in here , so  refer to my previous message (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5130244.msg56063372#msg56063372).   However, if that Electrum SEED has been generated on the mobile, nothing changes for you in terms of privacy.
Not only privacy, but problems like derivation path may arise for beginners. It is best to generate two different seedes one for each wallet.
Electrum wallet on Android is not that advanced and does not have many features so it is best to avoid using it.

I know privacy is something important for a lot of people here in the forum but as long as this user is using his mobile wallet as a means of using it for sending and receiving small payments and not for storing purposes and he has nothing to hide with the authorities I guess he is still in the clear when it comes to holding Bitcoin in a mobile wallet. Also doesn't the government need to have a special warrant for that in order to do those kinds of surveillance towards any citizen? When it comes to privacy you have rights protected by the law and I don't think they monitor random people just because they feel like it.

Per experience I had with electrum from my previous wallet creation, also encountered that concern. I had searched for some ideas about it and found out that address changed every moment transactions finished. However, your funds wont get lost because of your previous address being used at first.

Protecting one's privacy has nothing to do with having something to hide or not. It is about wanting to protect your right.

In a perfect world with a law abiding government, that's true. But in reality the government has always been above the law and they do whatever they want including invading citizens privacy. They just have to use some scary words such as "national security". Haven't you seen the NSA leaks? :D
