Wechat has strict controls and privacy isn't secure, I don't use this app. Chinese people can help you, this app is very popular in this country.

wechat in my opinion is not the best messaging system on the market, it tracks all its users, currently i believe it only accepts registrations with Chinese numbers

It accepts any number, but only with current user invitation. :(

No need to invite anyone just for the sake of registration purpose, all you need is your mobile number and verification code then you will be registered. Invitation is for inviting your contacts to install the same.
