In just 11 years of cryptocurrencies existence we've seen a series of shitcoins coming up, making a choice on which coin to hold aside $BTC & $ETH $BET $DOT $ADA & LINK is becoming difficult, how best can I get to know more viable  projects like the ones I already have? When will the proliferation of shitcoins in crypto space stop? Who will check mate the proliferation of shitcoins?

Shitcoin/scamcoin from altcoin to token will continue exist because scammer is need the money for living and buy new some car  :-X just hold bitcoin and you will be fine and Do your own research before investing in new coin because i see ton of them pop out everyday  :'(

Knowing the fact that people are totally free to create as much projects(both legitimate and scams) as they want, then no, I don't think it's going to stop anytime soon. Especially knowing that people are still willing to speculate in them regardless how good/bad they are.

Funnily enough, depending on people's opinions, I'm pretty sure a lot of people would think that some of the coins you've mentioned aren't actually "viable". :P

As the quote above says, this scams of coin will continue to exist. The quote already said to do your research so that can help you in distinguishing bad from good and knowing whether the coin is a passion project or a quick cash grab. The only way I know that this will cease from existing at the very least is by not batting an eye when there is a new project launch, do not buy their coins in hopes that hodling will be profitable, like how you ignor when there is a clout chaser in social media.

I prefer top 100 coins on the coinmarketcap to avoid shit coins. I would not say that all coins listed above the 100 list fall under the Shitcoin category. Basically a shit coin is something that does not have any practical usage especially those which are known as utility coin/token. Just avoid those and you will be safe.

Unplug the internet for a bit in the entire world, it'd probably stop then. Kidding aside, it's close to impossible, trust me. It's like asking companies to stop making money, when in the first place the very reason a company was made is to, in one way or another, make money. Not to mention that some people have that sort of mentality that whatever they would make would probably be "infinitely" better than what is on the market right now.

Hey look on the bright side at least, the very fact that they're trying to create more coins to exceed what is at the top right now just goes to show how good/great the top coins are in the crypto scene.

You can't stop the people from creating new shit coin. Just look at the reality: we have tons of useless things in the world and many different materials are created just to scam us. Be a wise investors. We don't need to invest in those shit coin. As long as we stay away from them, we are immune from their diseases.

It might somehow stop in the future when most of the investors agree with the same view about crypto investments. From 2018- mid 2019, many have stopped investing to Icos and ieos.

But when the yfi projects have came, then many investors became agressive again and active. Maybe it will be a cycle of being inactive, passive and then active again if there is a new trend.

As long as creating shitcoins is profitable it will never stop. People have a preference when choosing where to invest their money at. Some people choose a project due to their product or use case, and some are investing just for money. Developers are earning a lot of money by creating different types of projects, this includes scam projects because there are still people who get attracted by too good to be true returns. No matter what form of crowdsourcing it is, there will always be projects out there that will take advantage of it and will scam people.

Well, i feel that there is no two coins that have perfectly similar feature and value propositions. What separates one altcoin or shtcoin from another is the problem they are created to solve, for instance, dodge coin is different from Ethereum due to the problem they solve in crypto space.

well, i think a good project must have a very sold business model, great team and a very detailed whitepaper. These are the areas you must consider in knowing a project that has a future.

Yes, do you know there are entrepreneurs that make money just by developing new business idea to make money? these type of entrepreneurs are in every industry, especially in the crypto space. What they do is to develop a project, and probably raise funds from angel investors or an ICO.

2 ways to stop scams in crypto.

1. Stop the cryptocurrency in general.
2. If all of the investors will be knowledgeable enough to not get scammed.

With these 2, no one will happen so in short scams will not stop. You can't stop crypto in general and in the second one, not all of the investors are knowledgeable enough and there will be newbie investors who will get scammed. Don't expect that crypto scams will stop and also take note that even scammers are scamming thru fiat currency and fiat has been there for a long time already :).

For some people they like the idea or project of the alt coin so this is why they choose to invest. And some think they can see big gains if they hodl on to them.
There is going to always be the alt coins/shit coins as you say but it is up to you to decide if you are going to invest your Bitcoin into them. 
Most of these alt coins are not earning the investors as much as if they just kept their money in Bitcoin.   

Shitcoins won't seize to exists because creating crypto projects isn't regulated, there is no law that will stop people from creating their tokens and coins, crypto space is decentralized where everyone is free to do what they want and how they like, there are real developers and fake developers, we just have to be more careful and do our own research on new projects

It's significant to know whether you have invested in coins that are valuable or just bought some useless coins or shitcoins.
There are some ways to know whether they are shitcoins or not;

- The coin doesn't have any progress or any developments
- No viable use in crypto industry
- Teams and devs no recent update
- Left behind and just created for fund raised purpose
- No real governance and quality

If you can see, those potential coins have a good progress with their objectives until now. They are further growing not just with their price but also with their project.

I suggest you train yourself to be able to avoid shitcoins once they are in sight, these type of projects will never vanish from crypto space, we keep having different type of smart contract platforms apart from Ethereum, Polkadot is now big because all the projects running on its blockchain are all successful, there are many more out there, there is no way to make this stop

It is true that in 11 years of cryptocurrencies existence that many shitcoins has been created even those that claimed to be great turned out terrible but it is also good to know that, despite the constant coming up of shitcoins, it didn't stopped Bitcoin from breaking it's ATH and setting a new one, it also didn't stopped Ethereum from growing towards its ATH, however one can say it only delayed it, but yet the good side is, top coins always prove their worth. Also, if you know the type of coin you want, I don't think it will be difficult making a decisions, for some people they have no business with other altcoins apart from Bitcoin and top altcoins, while for some, they only go for altcoins they can sell in order to increase their Bitcoin holding, hence i think you can find it difficult deciding when you go for most of these hyped projects. In the same way, the creation of new altcoins will hardly stop because if you watch closely, many top altcoins started somewhere and as new altcoins, but their use case sets them apart, thus it is good to be on the lookout of coins with great use case as they are the ones that will have a positive effect on the long run. Another point to look out for, in an upcoming project is the dedication of the team, the activeness of the community, how good their partners are and the long term usability/application of their use case.

It is really hard to eliminate those kind of schemes where that can make money by fooling others.

Scammers will do everything to have an easy money and that's the reality that we should deal with. Shitcoins are very effective for them that's why they settle on that kind of way of earning money, instead of investing their own money. These coins will continuously exist when the governments or the authority doesn't have any concern with that.

You should choose what to invest wisely so that you will not waste your money in these scams in the market.

Is it just me or does it look like you are shilling for a particular coin among the aforementioned coins! most of your post revolves around this similar topic and this same coins are suggested by you, well news flash, there is hardly anything you can do about this, blockchain is an open source which means everyone is free to build and develop their project on it .... shitcoin or not, if you already hold ($BTC & $ETH $BET $DOT $ADA & LINK) i don't see why you are even looking for something else, you already hold the best among them all  ;)

Instead of complaining, why don't you make yourself aware about them and be knowledgeable on how to identify scams or shitcoins.

There are a lot of information here in this forum, try to visit Altcoin Discussion  to become updated on the altcoins that are also worth it to invest. That's really what is good about this forum, we are helping each other become aware so that we will not waste our money to something that is not worth it.

We have a community that will help our decision making improve and in choosing what to invest in different situations in the market.

This will not stop if you ask about when the new Shittoken or Coin with the aim of the scam will be finished, so people have the freedom to create new concepts, but what I regret is that there should be an institution that can oversee every new listing of projects that are indicated as scam will be blacklisted. this is to avoid many people being deceived. it's been 4 years now there's still no direction towards that

Who can stop the scammers? The crypto world is a decentralized space and free of laws. Although we have scam accusations in this forum, it cannot conquer all the scammers in the crypto world. So, it will be always there forever as long as the crypto world exists. It depends on us how to avoid the scams.

The best thing you can do is search for the info and find out yourself because we can only suggest the coin name, but the decision will be yours. You do not need to follow our suggestion because we are not always right to give you a suggestion. If you can find the coin by yourself, and that coin increases, you will feel satisfied because your analysis is right, making you make a profit.

It is the eternal question. Such scam projects will exist till the last opportunity to get easy money will disappear. So the answer is - such scams will be always. Where the money are the enormous frauds appear. In all times lots of people existed who prefered to get a lot of profit in the most easiest way, with the minimum efforts. To fight with such people is like to fight windmills. Everything depends on you - on your ability to make deep analysis before investing and your capability to pass by the loud promises to get rapidly tones of money))

The answer may never be as long as there are gaps and opportunities, scamer will continue to do this, not only in the crypto world, in the real world, fraud is still ongoing and exists, even though there are laws or institutions that regulate it.

The key here is education, this is the only way to find out what coins to invest and to discard, shitcoins are always going to be here , because there are loopholes here and many are full of greed that these scammers can easily deceive these newbies who cannot moderate their greed and easily believe on what are being presented to them.

There are many platforms to create a token you can even create for $20 and, scammers are also good in creating concept that looks believable, even veteran in investing in the market are scammed by these people, the only way to combat these scammers is through awareness on how they worked and get the latest update on the scam projects in the scam section.

Shitcoin will never disappear they will continue to be here, maybe it will disappear/diminish if everyone stops investing in ICOs and only chooses IEO investments in top exchanges

There is no abnormal situation in encountering such situations in a place easily accessible to everyone. They will never stop making shitcoins because it's profitable for scammers many new investors still get victims of scam projects because of the promises that they will earn high if they invest their coin. I still prefer to invest in the top coins even they already in all time high because in the future they will increase more.

as time goes by the crypto market that is no longer viable will be dumped on the market as its attractiveness for investors decreases. So that the income for market managers also decreases. There are a lot of shitcoin because the market only accepts movements that provide large profits and are attractive to investors. this is the type of filtering for cryptocurrencies in the following year that survive is crypto that has quality in any weather. has strong competitiveness and still provides benefits for investors.

Shitcoins will never stop being made because it's too easy to make them and it's fun to run them.  Even if people weren't throwing money at worthless projects I would think developers would like to start shitcoins for the experience.  Not everyone does it to make money I'm sure, although the ones being slammed down your throat that pretend to be world changing innovations are certainly created with the goal of taking your BTC.  There are thousands of altcoins you never even know existed that were built as learning experiences, and that is where their value is. 

Buying shitcoins can also be a learning experience, albeit an expensive one. 

Not guarantee with cmc top 100 coins because many coins when down never back up to higher price again, I think with cmc top 100 coins only trust with ethereum, litecin and bitcoin cash, for the other just running short time and not brave for long term investment. As far as I know, so many projects are valuable enough as ANN thread. Every legit project has a good future focus but can't make as their plans. Although now most of the projects view are the same as older projects, including more features and low cost. I focus on big partnerships before ICO or IEO, but later only volume and exchange.

Absolutely true, scammers will continue bringing new altcoin projects with fake teams in other to scam investors and run away with the money, this has been going on for a long time now not sure if this is ever going to stop, the more investors are getting wiser the more scammers are getting smarter too making them plan new tricks to use on the investors, lately they even make a scam project look so real until the last minute, they will just shut down without anyone noticing,thats why it's important to do a good research before investing.

Honestly, the scam project and shitcoin will never stop floating around in the crypto world. They (con developer) will see the crypto currency as a space which really promises them to get a big profit from the results of the fraud. Because there is no parties who will manage and pay attention to crypto developments.

So as when the fake developer make a new project and offer something very promising with very low capital, the project must be seriously suspected. I think it is not difficult to invest in crypto. As long as you can search for more information about what coin you should invest, you don't have to worry about how to start buying the coin. The shitcoin will always come anytime and there's no way to stop it even when there's no smartcontract and the shitcan can come again from modifying the bitcoin source code to be used to build a new coin.
What you need to analyze the fundamental of shitcoin and you can know that easily whether that's a shitcoin or not.

for now I think a lot of altcoins have fallen and are hurting investors, of course I'm not talking about people who lose trades. but in this case a lot of new altcoins already have investors and instead leave the project and bring money from investors. Of course this is something we should be aware of in new altcoins. so for actual investments it is better to hold on to altcoins that already have potential for future investment.

It is never going to stop. Scam exists for centuries. No one can stop scams. If one gets taken down, a new one will pop. Use the forum to know more about the projects. If you see there isn't any discussion or active community for those projects, best to avoid them. No one can "check mate" the proliferation of shitcoins.

Shitcoins and scam projects are already part of the crypto world and we can't control their existence but we can still do something to get rid of them. As the market grows, we should also grow and learn how to choose good coins. All the coins that you have mentioned have good potential and dividing our assets to invest in those coins would be worth it. If we'll stress ourselves of shitcoins, we'll never foster. It's better to protect yourself instead of worrying about scam projects because they will always be around here as much as crypto remains a big thing in future, there is huge amount of money to be made here either through good source or bad ways, scammers aren't going anywhere

The scam will not end, and that is happening in many things, not just in crypto. As long as there are money involve inside the business, the scammer will try to scam the other people and get their money. We can not stop that thing because it is what happens for a long time ago. We can be careful if that is related to money because we do not know what their purpose behind of that. I am sure we can protect ourselves from the scammers, and we can take care of our money from them.

Unfortunately, it is very easy for scammers to create fraudulent projects and deceive people, and unfortunately, scammers will always be in the cryptocurrency field, and therefore you should always study every cryptocurrency project fully in which you want to invest and try to invest best in cryptocurrency projects that conduct IEOs on the top exchanges like binance and then you will not notice scam projects.

There are thousands of new cryptocurrencies being started in a year and with a lot of that, people will continue to invest. As long as investors continue to invest, there will be a continuous making of these scam projects/shitcoins in the market. When will it stop? I don't know, all I know is that if people would stop investing in these projects, for sure these will also stop but that is just so close to impossible.

As long as crypto remains profitable, as long as new money are flowing into crypto industry Scammers will never leave this space, they will keep finding flaws within crypto users, they will keep finding new investors that have no experience about real and fake projects, it's left for us to avoid scam and fake projects ourselves

Don't mind, what your top priority should be is figuring out with which projects will worth your every penny, remember, without good use case or good utilities there is no chance of survival, scammers will only pretend to have something good to offer, ask them deep questions and you will see they don't have good answers

Scammers have been in existence like forever, there is no way to stop them, people who scam derives pleasure from hurting people like themselves and swallowing innocents people's hard earned money with no remorse, they are indeed wicked people, we just have to learn how to avoid getting scammed

the scam will never go away, I think its the responsibility of the trader or investor to double / Triple check what company you are going to join or invest in, the only reason people get scam is that they look at the return, counting eggs while it does not even hatch, there are lots of tutorials even warnings to learn to spot a scam, why not try to invest on a well-known company, what you mention are buyable token yet you spend your money on unknown coins.

Greedy people existence will also be undying of scam schemes in the internet, they cannot be stopped because they will just comeback all over again especially in this industry wherein they just create another scam crypto projects from the scratch and steal again money from people.

Profits earned from investing in bitcoin or ethereum is quite reasonable thus why will I invest on unworthy or shitcoin with hope of earning 10x or 20x at in a long run whole project turns scam, some gullible investors are having a mindset of making money quickly thus they do not bother to research on the major coins, Bitcoin once dropped to $4K in the wake of the first wave of Covid-19 last year some investors capitalized on the price pullback and bought low then, incredibly they are in profits now having invested wisely.

Thing is that's why they're called top coins in the market is that they aren't shitcoins. The numbers in reputated market tells us the charts hiding the technical aspects behind those price we see. Nobody can stop the "proliferation of shitcoins" as you mentioned. Scams are natural part of cryptospace already. It's just those investors that feed these scammers that's why they keep coming back in the market and to this forum actually. They're everywhere.

Even if we got scam busters here in the forum, there are still pretty much scammers outside the forum.

scammers ruined the image or the reputation of cryptocurrency , that is what all are saying but i wont agree with that because if that is true why most of the cryptos are still succesful ? why there are still people that invest and why the market cap or the price of cryptos are still growing . and to those that who easily believe that cryptos are scam , they are just light headed or have a small imagination on them  . loosing is still possible even if op will only stick on the coins that he listed and infact new coins can sometimes perform better

Shitcoins will never be gone as long as there are people falling into their trap they will always continue but what you can do to avoid them is to don't pay attention to them just stick up to those top listed coins across the market as much as possible invest in Bitcoin but it's up to you. One thing to avoid them is to make your own research by that way you can reduce the odds of getting pick shitcoins. Honestly, there are a lot of good altcoins out there but you need to dig up for them in order to make gains out of it.

Scams are typical and we know that this isnt limited only on crypto but this had been existing over the years talking in other markets as well or things that do
really connect out some big money. People have those criminal intentions is always present thats why on saving up your ass towards this then you should
really be aware on things that is happening around, dont make yourself getting fooled so easily because if you dont just make use of your own common sense

Study the most popular scams that managed to deceive people, study the average scams that managed to declassify in time, but which all just managed to cash in, and study those who were already exposed at first. Because those words are very familiar in the crypto space and are very suitable for use in projects with unclear directions, because there are no other words that are more suitable for projects that deceive many people.

Well said about that, as the above user said the creation of shitcoin will never stop and it the investors that ought to improve their understanding about cryptocurrency investment and choosing old coins as advised by the above use doesn't justify the risk and if check CMC there are a lot of old coins which are currently inactive.

You really can't stop the people from creating new shit coin. Shitcoin/scamcoin from altcoin to token will continue to exist because scammer also need the money for living. Do your own research before investing in new coin because i see ton of them pop out everyday. I prefer top 50 coins on the coinmarketcap to avoid shit coins.

as long as crypto currency keep existing, so what i just think is that care need to be taken while taking decision on any coin of choice, because most project that become shitcoin  some of them are legit at inception, they become such due to improper plan, though some project are real scam project.

A lot of shitcoins just disappear by themselves. People stop trading them and developers stop working on them. Eventually they will get delisted but then new shitcoins will arrive to take their place and the cycle continues. In the end the market seems to prefer Bitcoin so it is not something that worries me so much. It is unfortunate that some people will get scammed but it is a lesson that will be worth learning for them to not invest in useless garbage.

I can feel the frustration but as long as crypto currencies exist, there will be good and shit coins both and in good numbers. The main reason is because anyone anonymously can create their coin, do scam ICOs and even airdrops them to everyone to later dump when it hits an exchange.

I don't mind these things because its like the real market, there will be scammers all over the marketplace but that doesn't mean we stop using it. It only means that we have to be more careful.

Talking of being careful and selective, investors have already stopped investing into scams and are very picky now and do their complete analysis before investing anything. Unlike few years ago when any ICO gained millions, now ICOs are barely even reaching their soft cap which shows that investors have become very cautious and the naive ones are already scammed I think.

we ourselves will not know when and where it will end because the nature of shitcoin is only good at upfront sales, and that's where we ourselves have to stop the breeding, for example don't follow or buy when the ICO starts..

we know that scams in the form of creating a shitcoin have stop when every new coins coming out are all good not only from the start but also up to finish . following a shitcoin project is not worst as investing on them and you follow because you have intentions like busting them after proving that they are a scam and not because you are interested on them .
make sure that we know who is the real shitcoin because there are so called shitcoins but arent really a shitcoin .

is that a guarantee? look at projects that are really serious about developing their platform. we can see it sticking around for a very long time in the market with consistent support. I think there are many projects like that. but new projects create new nuances in the crypto market. it is also necessary. but all of them are misused by fraudsters to get more money. There may be more scammers, but I think investors and players in new projects are getting better at choosing the projects they deserve to participate in.

It's a waste of time hoping that scam will seize to exists in crypto space, a place where millions of dollars is flowing through every single day? It's impossible, scammers will always be in this space and it's left for investors to find the right ways to avoid investing money on scam projects

No one knows when the scam will take palce, some scammers allows early takers to earn and let them enjoy the benefits.
Trying to attract more investors to join and invest while waiting for the amount of money that they are trying to run away.

The scam would go on because there are so many people who are trusting the new project even if their vision or road map is so suspicious or so hard to achieve.
I don't even know why people keep on investing on those kind of project and thinking that it would be the next big crypto.
The one's who should be blamed are those who tolerate it but what could we do everyone wants to try their luck and follow the step of those who gain so much being an early investor just like what happen in some early Bitcoin investors.

There's no one to checkmate all the crypto projects that are out everyday in crypto sphere, this is a decentralized space so there's absolutely no regulation for new projects, that's why there will always be shit projects coming out everyday, you have to be really careful when investing in any new project cause most of them are scam projects, this is why carrying out a thorough research before investing important, to avoid falling into the traps of this wicked scammers out there.

maybe my advice before joining the project make sure we have to research first,
at least it can prevent a little so that we can be careful in choosing projects

Shitcoins are going to be around as long as people keeping buying them.  The fact of the matter is outside of the coins you listed ( which I believe you should also be including Monero and Litecoin ) there isn't much in the way of good projects out there.  Why not focus on the coins with a legitimate future rather than trying to strike gold sifting through all sorts of coins that likely will not have any future.

It's also true that shitcoin will always be around while someone still buys it and that's the cycle,
It is better if we focus on coins that have great potential and a good future,
because if we focus more on coins that don't have that I think we'll be wasting our time

That is not the reason why there is scam, fiat is not anonymous and you can't make your own money up and make people accept it, but yet in fiat world people are scammed every day, scam industry is a 22+ billion dollar industry making it one of the biggest one in the world, and only a tiny portion of it is in crypto, from online scammers to regular old "Nigerian prince" like systems to business world there are so many scammers in the world that even instagram shops that "sell" something but close shop as soon as they get the money basically covers only one in a million percent of it, so you can believe that world is filled with a huge amount of scammers. What can we do?

We can be more careful, both in crypto and in fiat world you have to be careful, do not ever give your money to anyone without the guarantee of them actually getting you back, otherwise you will lose a lot of money and there will be no return.
