Title: Vires in numeris Post by: xcaret on January 20, 2021, 04:13:12 AM I'm reconfiguring my Ledger nano S . I just downloaded start.Ledgerwallet.com after re setting my 24 recovery words
3 years ago I had the Ledger nano S downloaded onto my Windows 10 Laptop, and it all worked good . I bought and sold minor amounts of BTC . 6 months ago I plugged my Ledger into that laptop, and saw I had a tiny bit of BTC still left . A month ago that laptop was completely destroyed ,forever ! Since my home PC is 64 bit, I just now downloaded the Ledger app , first I re set my 24 words on my ledger and confirmed them. Once that was done ledger told me to download their program, which I did. It is now downloaded onto my PC . But my Ledger doesn't recognize it . The ledger site shows past trans actions ,but not the few dollars still in my ledger. The ledger still tells me to download Start.ledgerwallet.com . It is running on my pc . I unplugged the Ledger several times ,but still the same. After telling my where to download the app from ,it asks if I want to continue . I indicate I do. It takes me thru " display" ," security" ," devise" ,"assistance" ,and finally " quit app" Right after downloading the app ,my ledger said " Vires in numeris " ,but it disappeared . And I'm wondering if s that mean virus or something ? Any help will be appereciated . Title: Re: Vires in numeris Post by: xcaret on January 20, 2021, 04:18:32 AM Sorry folks. I googled vires in mumeris ,only to find it means "Strength in Numbers" .
But I still need HELP . Title: Re: Vires in numeris Post by: xcaret on January 20, 2021, 04:38:02 AM One more thing is, that unlike when I have a flash drive plugged into a usb port , my Ledger doesn't show up the same as a flash drive would. It doesn't show up at all.
Title: Re: Vires in numeris Post by: Bttzed03 on January 20, 2021, 04:47:38 AM Vires in numeris? That's weird. I don't use Ledger but can you check the address in https://blockchair.com/ if you still have the BTC in your wallet?
I also don't understand why you have to go through all the trouble to access your remaining bitcoins. Can't you just import your seed phrase into another wallet like Electrum? [/quote] Bttzed03, do you mean I should type the 24 words My Ledger gave me just tonight ? Since the Ledger is lighting up when plugged in, I know it works ,but my PC Ledger app no longer recognizes it . I reset the 24 words just tonight on my Ledger so I don't think it would work in Electrum because my Ledger is not going online , as least ,not to the Ledger app . I dion't have the private key at my disposal because ( I guess ) it's in the Ledger . Did you mean that if I download Electrum, and plug the Ledgerb into it ,that it may work? Sorry , I only used this Ledger a few times over 2 years ago. Title: Re: Vires in numeris Post by: DdmrDdmr on January 20, 2021, 10:54:32 AM Not sure what the issue you are having is, but if you’ve barely used the device, make sure it is not firmware related:
See https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002731113 Find out the version of firmware that the Ledger Device is using (see https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002997193), and check on the first link if there are any incompatibilities (v 1.1 and v 1.2 do not work with Ledger Live) or special procedure to consider (check the prerequisites). The "Vires in numeris" is described here: https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360017152034-Set-auto-lock Quote If you've enabled auto-lock your device will show the text vires in numeris when the device has been automatically locked. The message is Latin for strength in numbers, which is a Bitcoin motto. To unlock the device, press both buttons and enter your PIN code. Title: Re: Vires in numeris Post by: bob123 on January 22, 2021, 05:28:42 PM Check your device manager whether your OS recognizes your the ledger nano.
If it doesn't, make sure to try a different cable (one with data pins, a charging cable is not sufficient). BTW, what OS are you using? Windows 10 again? Title: Re: Vires in numeris Post by: HCP on January 23, 2021, 10:04:00 PM A month ago that laptop was completely destroyed ,forever ! That's not really an issue... as long as you have your 24 words, you'll be able to recover whatever coins are being managed by your Ledger device. All the keys necessary are able to be restored from your 24 words, so regardless of whether or not your laptop/PC or Ledger device are functioning, you can recover. :)I just now downloaded the Ledger app As bob123 is theorising... It sounds like your Ledger device is not being recognised by Windows correctly. :-\... It is now downloaded onto my PC . But my Ledger doesn't recognize it . ... I unplugged the Ledger several times ,but still the same. When you connect the device and then unlock it with your PIN, do you get the the USB device connected "bing bong" sound? ??? If not, then there is either an issue with the USB cable you are using (no data, only power?)... or there is some sort of issue with the USB device driver install. If you've tried a different cable (that you know allows you to transfer data and isn't just a power cable from a phone charger etc), you may need to go into Windows Device Manager and see if you can see a device with a little yellow triangle and ! mark. Right click on the device and then "uninstall device". Then disconnect your Ledger, and then reconnect it and unlock it with your PIN again. See if it then gives the "bing bong" sound and shows up in Device Manager as "Nano S" under "Universal Serial Bus devices": https://talkimg.com/images/2023/11/15/zsDKG.png If it does, then you should be able to see the device in Ledger Live... open Ledger Live and away you go. Right after downloading the app ,my ledger said " Vires in numeris " ,but it disappeared . And I'm wondering if s that mean virus or something ? That is basically a "screen saver" on the device... it'll scroll along after an "Auto-lock timeout" (which you can adjust on the device in "Settings -> Security -> Auto-lock").Any help will be appereciated . "vires in numeris" appears when you enabled auto-lock in the security setting. do not worry, it just a screensaver, not a virus. That's a real picture when I enabled auto-lock in my ledger. |
