Title: Always remember your edit botton
Post by: Zilon on January 30, 2021, 07:00:09 AM
Mistakes most times is inevitable and most of the times we might neglect previewing our posts before posting them. It is highly adviced especially to newbies to always read their posts before and after posting, this way the will drive home their information with the right context.

In instances where we forget to preview our posts editing should be the next option so as to engage other people in our posts for proper interaction

I can find the edit botton.  ???

If you said about Edit button, it is used to correct your post when you see a typo, want to correct your texts.

Furthermore, it is used and advised to be used to add new information to your Opening posts (OPs). It is applied by companies or managers of bounties, signature campaigns.
32. Posting multiple posts in a row (excluding bumps and reserved posts by the thread starter) is not allowed.

If you click on Preview button, you will have a backup in draft page
Q: What is the draft feature on these forums?
A: When you write a post or a PM and click preview, the post gets saved into the Draft page. Same as when you click post (even if an error that prevented the post from being posted appeared such as "The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago."), send a PM or save an edited post.

Drafts can be found at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=drafts.

Your edited posts will have a dash-underline and editing time if you edit your original post after more than 5 minutes.

...
Nobody will have to give this advice to newbies that are serious or their posts will be full of typo errors most especially.

...
Zilon is not talking about edit button, he just make use of it that before we post, that we should first proof-read our post and after we post we should use the edit button to make corrections if mistakes are still seen in our post.

Zilon's post is unclear in meaning and your post is too. You said 2 opposite things in your post so what do you want to prove that it is not Zilon's idea?
Zilon is not talking about edit button

we should use the edit button to make corrections if mistakes are still seen in our post.

Proof read, preview, post and edit, everyone can use it. I agree that if you care about what you post and want to improve its quality as well as don't want to make multiple posts, use Edit button.

I tend to agree with OP, the best practice is we should always preview or read back after posting your reply.  Because sometimes we didn't notice that we had a typo error or the context isn't clear to read.

But you can edit your post anytime you want if there's an unclear statement that I want to correct, I will simply put it below my post, "Edited:"

Here is also my tip for newbies that until now that I've used.  Use this Grammarly app (https://app.grammarly.com) that will auto-correct your misspelled sentence and wrong grammar, it's a tool based on AI that you can use in the English language.  But you can't fully rely on this of course.

At this point no need to hit the preview button if you're sure of the content you have posted.

When I made my first post here I would have been surprised if the forum hasn't any button to correct me in case of errors and mistake, since there can be mistakes made by anyone, I think -Newbies- that reread what they post or those that have the indulgence to do that will find and know they are to use the Edit button when they want something changed.
But In between, the edit button for a post can be more than correcting, you can actually add to what you posted/reply, and quote some ones reply And post and add what you want, rather than starting a new post, making your post unnecessary multiple on one thread page.

Well sometimes mistakes are inevitable anyway.

In cases that your edit made it worse and you forgot your previous post, you could still look up your original post before it was edited through this thread made by LoyceV  - 53M posts! View unedited/deleted posts (search per post, per user or per topic) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5167469.msg51902990#msg51902990).

I'm not exactly sure what the real point of this thread is, because the edit button isn't exactly a hidden function that most members have trouble finding, but whatever. ~

Same actually. I think this would fit better to "Beginners & Help" since many non-newbies most likely already used or seen at the least the "Edit" button.

Your edited posts will have a dash-underline and editing time if you edit your original post after more than 5 minutes.
Ah, I wasn't aware of that five minute time limit--thanks for pointing that out.  I knew about the underlining thing but I'd always thought it was in effect regardless of how much time had passed since your post was submitted.  I probably should have known that, having been here for years, but...

I'm not exactly sure what the real point of this thread is, because the edit button isn't exactly a hidden function that most members have trouble finding, but whatever.  I tend to use it (and recommend others to do likewise) to avoid posting consecutively in a thread that I'm posting more than once in.  It's also important to mark such edits as "EDIT:" or something similar so that people don't get confused.

I think he meant edit bottom, no?

Or maybe he was just hoping to get some quick merits.

Who knows.

Your edited posts will have a dash-underline and editing time if you edit your original post after more than 5 minutes.
The exact time is 10 minutes.
The edit time will be displayed only if you edit your post after 10 minutes.

Edit:
It's now 08:12 PM (default forum time) and I am editing this post.
You won't see the edit time.

Basically, making mistake in error typing is something that happened regularly but in as much as you exhibit the habit of reading your context after posting will certainly show you your error, sometimes I find errors in my post after 2-3 days when just scaling on my posts history, and the edit bottom had been helpful.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that five minute time limit--thanks for pointing that out.
The exact time it takes before it shows edit is 10 minutes not 5 minutes, I think ocTradism should correct his mistake, I'm open for corrections too if I'm wrong.

There won't be any dotted line if the edit was within 10 minutes after posting.
I think it's 10 minutes.
The edit time will be displayed only if you edit your post after 10 minutes.

Majority says it all

This thing applies not for newbies only, but for all members. I must admit that I don't preview my posts usually. It looks ok from first glance, so I don't always bother to re-check it. But often I notice mistakes when I already click "Post" button. So, I quickly click "Edit" button before nobody haven't noticed mistake.
But I think that typing mistaes is something what can't be avoided. Even if you check your posts before publishing it, you'r eyes not always will notice these mistakes. And typing mistakes isn't worst thing which canhappen for you. Yes, it's better to avoid it, but it's not an end of world.
P.S. seems that OP didn't followed his advice and made mistake in the title :).

The edit time will be displayed only if you edit your post after 10 minutes.
This is correct, it used to be 5 minutes a couple of years back, but was changed to 10 minutes. Also, asides the edit time not being displayed, the edited posts within that time period are not logged and are not available to admins. So, it sort of acts like a grace period;

are all my edits within the first 10 minutes also logged?

No, edits in the grace period are not logged.

OP forget to check his spelling before posting, his post now can be applicable to him. lol..
Sometimes we make mistakes in typing the words but OP is right, we need to review our post before and after so we can convey the right message.

Especially for people who are in signature campaign, I believe this is necessary as we have a minimum post required to hit every week, and personally I admit that I make some typo errors that I did not notice anymore.

I think having an app installed in your pc to check your posting grammar and spelling would help to notice the errors in your post.
