Title: Lowest energy possible?
Post by: Ken_terrance on January 31, 2021, 06:07:10 AM
What and what can be removed from motherboard to lower the energy consumption while mining? What is the possible lowest energy consumption someone can go? I'm using a second generation motherboard i3 2130 3.4ghz and 3x gtx1660 Ti

1. Change your HDD or SSD to USB pen drive or flash drive, they consume very loss energy
2. You don't need those DVD rewritable too, better disconnect them
3. It's better to use those usb wireless than the hardware ones that looks like a sound card, and also work on your GPUs too to lower energy consumption

remove gpus :) just kidding. there is nothing you can remove from mobo. maybe ram use only 1 stick and use low poer cpus like ends with T for example celeron 3930T. anyway that will not make much difference because main power consumption is GPU

I suggest you concentrate more on the watts that the GPUs are drawing, a gtx1660 super power consumption can be lower as 70 to 90 watts depending on the hashrates you determined to get on them, also reduce clock and memory speed to 800, the TDP should go lower to 65% too

I always use a passive cpu cooler.

Less fans - less problems - less energy.

Use a good power supply - check the efficience.

If you need to buy a new (used) cpu, watch for T Versions (Intel).

Deactivate sound in the bios.

I am not sure how much power a riser uses.
Have a few rigs with old quad sli boards and 4 GPUs on it. Without riser.
Because the gpu are close together this makes only sense with water cooling.

the cheap mobo without riser integrated mobile cpu, check the lowest ssd consumption, low voltage ram, disable audio, use titanium psu at half power, and ambient temperature is the key

if your place is hot, then 3M liquid is good enough to cooling all parts except psu, atleast you would see 20-30% power saving with this liquid
