Title: The First Bitcoin Awareness Post on reedit was Mocked and Downvoted
Post by: Igebotz on January 31, 2021, 04:35:27 PM

The first ever bitcoin post on reedit was from a certain kid with username Libertarian with the topic' 'Heard about Bitcoin?'' where he talked about the usage and future of bitcoin but got a mockery replies from his audience, I was like wtf then i remembered I had the same opportunity few years ago when bitcoin was introduced to me at $650, first I thought it was one of those scamming things online, it was when i joined a certain Ponzi group on Facebook that i bought my first 0.05btc at the price of $50 after several months on Ponzi scheme I was able to raise it to 0.07btc got scammed on MMMuniversal I can never forget this site  ;D after then i lost interest in BTC, came back again few years later at $800-$1000. I know most of us had similar opportunity to get rich but failed to utilized it due to financial  strength or ignorance.

Tracing the price to 2010 just imagined a fat kid or someone brave enough invested his $50 for burger on BTC that day and hodl, he would have gotten 500BTC worth $16.3 million in today's current market with so much burger to eat  ;D.

I don't really blame them to be honest. Bitcoin is simply just a sort of "unconventional" invention that it's going to take a good amount of time for a typical person to get a grasp of it's characteristics, and it would be really easy for a person to presumably conclude that it's a scam or a stupid idea due to how profoundly unusual it is.

Heck, I'd also probably be an instant skeptic if I learned about Bitcoin that early on. Knowing that Bitcoin's network effect that time was literally next to nothing. It's simply easier to understand a certain something when there's just so much articles and content in general already about that certain something; like with Bitcoin right now. From an experimental protocol created by an internet stranger to now whereas there's literally news about Bitcoin everywhere.

Do you know there was another multimillion opportunity on this forum in the same year 2010 where 10,000btc was auctioned by SmokeTomuch (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=13) for $50 and the highest bidder was dwdollar (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=24) at $20?.   today its worth $328M insane money for penny ;D

I agree. There would likely have been very little content for newbies to gloss over inorder to fully understand what Bitcoin was and how it works, and someone would have needed high technical knowledge to understand the whitepaper or make sense of the information available at that time.

I mostly avoid looking at it this way. Very few people who had Bitcoin at the early stage would be holding till this present time, and if we always consider the value retrospectively with what it is today, every sale would have been a bad one. Likewise, any sale now would likely be a bad financial decision few years later if you consider price difference.

People are usually skeptical about new stuff.. probably why they put "Sci-Fi" stuff in movies that are actually technologies we're going to get commercially within 5-10 years. If the human brain isn't ready to accept a new idea, then trying to spread it around is gonna be a burden.

What's more sad is that the kid might have actually been influenced (and convinced) to move their interest away from BTC since the comments were negative.

It looks like that person was around 16 years old at that time. The last post they made (https://www.reddit.com/r/SuicideWatch/comments/drxzc/i_have_no_affirmation_of_my_existence/) in there was suicidal and they never posted after that.

If people naively believed everyone who said that they created a big invention that will change the world, scammers would run rampant and resources would be wasted. Just like it was with ICO.

Early Bitcoin adopters took a great risk in devoting their money and especially time into something that could have failed and disappeared, so it's reasonable that they got such a big reward if they still hold some coins.

Hence why while I'm truly jealous of them(because it's safe to assume that some of them are rich af now), I truly have great respect for them for being monetarily and mentally invested in such a project so early on. Also knowing that there was most probably a lot of crap being thrown at them.

If I were to read this thread back in the day I would have ignored it as whenever someone tells we need to use this so this thing can get value - it instantly puts me off.

I wouldn't call it "downvoted and mocked", the post is on a subreddit that is not that popular today with only 400k readers after 10+ years, and it was posted there 10 years ago so who knows what that subreddit was like back then, maybe it only had 50 readers. And it has only received 2 replies, that's hardly called being mocked.

What if the remaining 48 readers invested and decided not to mention anything about it? I think having a 400k readers in 10 year is huge achievement for a none celebrity page.
