Title: Are privacy coins still a thing?
Post by: Greatchu on February 03, 2021, 01:08:12 PM
Is there still some love for privacy coins cos no one seem to be taking about them anymore, how many of you guys are really using privacy coins for their real use case (anonymous) ? Do you invest in privacy coins for their use case or to make money out of them?

Till date I have never use bitcoin mixer to hide my transactions cos I don't see any reason to do so, what about you?

Tumbler services don't have same quality and use a tumbler does not give you private, untraceable transactions if you use a bad tumbler.
When you use a tumbler, you have to follow their guide, if you break steps they guide, you won't have best privacy from their tumbler service

They are still a thing if you want to stay anonymous.

Nobody accepts it because, legit businesses pay taxes to the government, their biggest share holder.

Just because you don't feel the need to hide your tracks doesn't mean everyone else too.

There are also criminals and drug addicts that use these kind of products and they are not going away any time soon.

Is very wrong to assume people do not care about privacy coins, the issue with most of these so called pivacy coins are not private at all, and project like Zcash are not rely privacy focus because they are looking for ways to please regulators. The major one is Monero and though they are looking for ways to break it but it is still secure for now

Their use case if much more important than trying to make money out of them. But personally I prefer to use a bitcoin mixer than an altcoin..

You don't see any reason you would want to hide how much you have from other people?

Bitcoin is a public ledger. Anyone can see its transactions, and all addresses balances.

If you withdrawal your coins from an exchange which you made KYC, for example, those addresses are potentially attached to your ID.

Or if you used the same address in this forum and in an exchange, your bitciontalk username and your ID are not linked through your address.

It is very important to use a bitcoin mixer if you care about your privacy.

The privacy feature will be very useful only for  P2P transactions but these days when you are dealing with the exchange site an anonymous feature will be totally useless.
People do not actually need it. It can be considered as a feature that doesn't have a bright future. People care about the feature that makes them able to make money from the market. people don't care anymore about their privacy except for some that have different agendas.

They are not much of a thing now. But they might again in the future.

Like Pivx is relatively cheap right now and they found a way to address KYC/exchange issues with their transparent transactions and having a note (about ownership etc) with each transaction if you want to. So their claim is their project is better (for governments) than even non-anon projects.

How this translates to reality is a different question.

But see Monero. Its ATH was like $450? Or even more? Now its ~ $150... So if you thought Monero would be HUGE some day quite
the opposite is true as you lost a ton of money.

Even now we cant really know what will happen to it, with more and more regulations coming by governments its probably kinda risky to have too much Monero since you wont be able to sell/proof your transactions.

On the other hand, if theres too many regulations coming and people want to escape bitcoin/eth from government oppression there is a chance they would go in privacy coins en masse.

Lol privacy is still a big thing online today, I'm sure majority of criminals and organizations from the shadows always have their tracks to cover, if you don't have any means of hiding your tracks that doesn't mean it's same for everyone in the world too, it's true that many people invest in Monero for example to make good gains only but people still cares about anonymous

XMR is still being used afaik on the darkweb at least that's what is being reported. there are few privacy coins that still exist that has a very active community like the deeponion coin, its not however found on big exchanges today.

buying privacy coins today on cex where you have submitted KYC is useless, you have to do it on DEX. this is why GRIN's price is higher on DEX than on CEX. in HitBTC or Gate.io its price is about $0.45 but on Vitex its $2 particularly on GRIN/ETH and its $7 on Citex.

I'm wondering what the darkweb looks like🤔, anyways, many people are using darkweb for lots of illegal things so they have to use privacy coins and also mixers too, Monero for example is well used by these type of people, even the hackers around the globe, privacy coins serves their purposes honestly, you just don't see that yourself

Several privacy coins have attracted a lot of attention in previous years. We can say a few coins about this. Many of these are not at the expected level at the moment. I think there is still a chance for them no matter what. I trust their technologies and they will surely gain value again in the future.

Yes, there's still a thing with privacy coins. You know why it makes the government remove them in exchanges makes it even worth to try, use and invest in them because they truly are private and you want to be anonymous online if you're conducting transactions.

Till date I have never use bitcoin mixer to hide my transactions cos I don't see any reason to do so, what about you?
I've used it, you must try it if you haven't.

I think privacy coins still has audience here in the forum and overall crypto community. I haven't used them though, probably except Monero in 2017-2018. However, some notable exchanges have been de-listing them so I stop to "invest" on them.

Have used mixer though many times, to obfuscate and break the link on my known bitcoin addresses.

The chance for privacy coins will always there but these coins must have developed a new product to be integrated with its protocol. So many people are getting hyped with the defi platform.
The developers of the privacy coins might need to think about how to integrated the privacy protocol to the defi.
So many people have been starting to move from the privacy protocol. they are thinking that pseudonym is enough.

Monero should be king of privacy but no body is talking about it anymore. I lost my Google authentication. So I can't access my exchange. N no email. Not much $$ but its been 2 years so dunno how much I have

I have used privacy coin like Monero but never really use it for the purpose of hiding my identity but instead I used it just for sending money, now that they got delisted like massively in various exchange I guess I'm rarely gonna use them anymore.
However, it's still a thing, there's reason why the coin ranked #19 by market cap, it's not because the coin is dying or something like that but because that coin still being used by many people.

Though I like privacy coins, after regulations their prices will reduce sharply. So I would not dare to hold them. But they will exist with other coins since there will always be demand for them.

People don't actually need fully anonymous protocol. Pseudonymous is enough for the users. The blockchain itself has become pseudonymous even without trying to add the privacy protocol.

People just aware if they didn't actually need the privacy protocol. That's why some privacy coins have been showing the stable charts.
The regulation doesn't affect the price of coin.

Privacy coins are not much profitable as bitcoin or other cryptos in the current bullish trend but still it is pretty much required in the market like when the mass adoption happens it will get more recognization than now. Even people who are making money in the legit way loves to get the complete privacy of their market so we don't need to connect the privacy with illegal activities all the time.
