this is a new realm of investing. i want to buy some coins but i need to wrap them with ethereum. everything is so decentralized. i like idex.io but this is so much newer. anyone know how to use this?
i will probably lose a few coins trying to move things around.

It's not new to whoever has been active in the space since the last two years. The Wrapped ETH or WETH is just ETH's erc-20 compatible version since ETH cannot interact directly with smart contracts.

Yes, you will have to. Dealing with smart contracts of Decentralized Exchanges and Decentralized Applications have become more expensive. A $5 transaction is already considered as low. You can still use tools like https://ethgasstation.info/ to check recommended gas.
