Title: 600,000 DOGE Stolen - Please Help
Post by: Shallowgas on February 04, 2021, 11:05:09 PM
Hi There,

I mined 600,000 DOGE in 2014 and obviously wasn't really bothered about them until recently, so I spent the last several days syncing my wallet back up to speed.

I was horrified to see that all the coins were withdrawn form my wallet   ???

https://imgur.com/a/vsvwWis

My wallet address is DQGye4CxaxG6JWW3J4XW8iStkhqR7WzpnN

Two amounts were sent to DSt3upFE1Z31SUx9vE3XzmYv9HkTYZWogF on 27/08/2020 1st one of -376.07930954, followed by -601372.35450604

8/27/20 00:32 Confirmed (217901 confirmations). Sent to (no label) DSt3upFE1Z31SUx9vE3XzmYv9HkTYZWogF -376.07930954
8/27/20 00:37 Confirmed (217896 confirmations). Sent to (no label) DSt3upFE1Z31SUx9vE3XzmYv9HkTYZWogF -601372.35450604

No transactions between 2014 and the stolen funds in Aug 2020.

Any help really appreciated.

That's permanent dude. The transaction that already confirmed by the block can't be rolling back again. There's no way for you to get back your money. You should move on.
It looks like your wallet gets hacked by someone.

Someone got access to your wallet.

Sorry for your loss, but Nobody can returning back if someone had stolen it. I assume, someone can access your pc at that time and get wallet.dat, better to check up on your PC, moving up either if still have another fund.

Any help really appreciated.

It is lost. You were hacked....there is nothing you can do to recover your funds.
The best you can do is buy a hardware wallet.  Ledger nano is the best option imo.

It is a lot of money to just let in a random hot wallet...

No one can help you. Your funds already moved to the new address that created by hackers. I have been watching the hacker's tx history and your coins have gone.
It looks like you are installing the suspicious software that contains the malware. The hackers were hijacking your desktop dude. im sorry for your lost but it's a lot of money.

That's a lot of synchronizing there. You didn't bother to check the explorer first before synching.
If its sent already then its lost, nothing can be done except to say good luck to the person who got it.  How do you think the hacker got access to your wallet's key?
600K doge today is already a big amount of money and its price is still growing.

Too bad friends, as you know, when the transaction has been confirmed, it will be very difficult to return it back. Well, this doesn't just happen to you. many people have experienced this, even I have experienced it. besides that, the transaction has also been going on for a long time. I'm pretty sure that the person who stole your doge has already moved some or all of the doge he stole somewhere else.

Sorry for your loss but I would recommend you to stop reading the comments here and go to the police ASAP. Maybe they will be able to track the hacker. If the hacker has sent the coins to an exchange and the account is verified, maybe they can find who did it.

That's a huge loss, why now after four months of losing your Dogecoin, is it because it's pumping now, it's useless posting it here because we are all going to say the same thing, and that is your wallet was hacked and since Doge is decentralized and peer to peer, there's no way to recover unless you can trace who hacked and stole your wallet and you can prove to authorities that he really hacked it.

The nature of blockchain is irreversible and once it got send to an address by the scammer you lost the coin.
Best action is to find out which exchange the scammer sends the doge to and possibly contact the exchange platform to freeze the account and funds altogether but that's if the thief still save the money in exchange otherwise it's hard to retrieve.

Cryptocurrencies are irreversible, so there's no way to get your coins back.

Beware if someone PM you offering able to recover your funds on any recovery websites, because it's only scam.

Since you're using a wallet, probably you doesn't have a good security on your wallet (e.g. strong password, 2FA) next time you can use hardware wallet to invest on large amount money.

What kind of secure environment was this PC inside?

Encrypted? Laptop? regular home PC?
What kind of firewall, antivirus etc?

Would be good to know what kind of risk this wallet was in to get accessed.
Someone had physical access or was it accessed through the internet?

If encrypted, how did they access it? Brute force?

Grief, such an incident cannot be helped by anyone. It is common for people to enter your wallet and sell or send all coins, it is very permanent that all assets cannot be returned to the wallet, there is no other choice you have to get back up from the beginning and be more careful heart again with this hack a lesson for us all

It's very sad to know someone accesses your wallet and transfers your Doge coins to its wallet. It's a huge loss for you if we see the current price of the Dogecoin. When block confirmation is there then there is no chance to get back your coins it's lost forever better take care of your wallets in the future so that nobody can access your wallet again.

all the good questions, but seems that we will not find out what happened, since OP made introduction post and disappeared from the forum
but, what one should get is that security is really important and you should keep your private key as secure as possible to avoid hacks in the future

Hey,

I do have to go to work, so 24hrs is a reasonable time to reply...

It was a normal home PC which is connected to the internet when on. Windows 10.
Wallet was encrypted with a fairly weak password I guess.

Windows Anti virus and anti malware. Normal firewall with modem. Pretty sure it was accessed through the internet.

Can anyone run a trace so I can find out which exchange traded the coins?

I may engage a crypto PI if there is a lead.

Cheers,

I have many theories about your loss, but it doesn't seem like it will make you any money. But through this loss you can learn by yourself and protect your property properly, you should take the time to check the computer because I know many people use computers when participating in the field. In this area they are accidentally attacked by hackers for stealing information and that's awful if you have money.

A lot of times such steals are inside job. So make sure to think also about that. Who had access to your computer. Not only in 2020. But also before. They could steal your private key in 2017 and then just withdraw last year, so would not look suspicious.

600,000 doge at this current rate is $27,173.39 stolen so easily, if this home computer is access by you only then certainly from a malware in your computer,  in cases like this, it is hard to get your coins back because there is a probability the hacker traded the coins through dex and not cex, better you have it at the back of your mind that your coins are gone for good.

I wonder from which wallet the coins were stolen. And most notably, it was stolen when Doge was in the center of the action. This is very annoying in fact. All wallets promise security, but no one is insured to be in the victim's shoes. It remains only to sympathize to the author who lost such a large sum. :-[

It is really sad to hear your loss, the only option you can do right now is to contact all the exchanges providing the proof that you are the real owner of the address by signing a message from the wallet and inform that your coins were hacked and hopefully the exchanges could help you in getting your coins back. It is the only option you have right now.

Make sure you monitor the trail even if the hackers try to split up the coins in multiple wallets and hope for the best as the chances of getting it returned are slim but it is your only option.

In crypto, transactions are irreversible, so you can't recover it anymore.

If you like to know who stole it, you can start investigating on your own but like I said, you'll never get it back, unless you found the culprit and ordered him to return the stolen dogecoin, which I think 1% chances of happening.

Sorry I can't help you, but this incident can be a lesson for you not to store coins in one wallet. And also use a hardware wallet so that the coins
you store are safer, then activate all the security features of your wallet. Moreover, the current price of Dogecoin is on the rise, making Dogecoin
a target for hackers. If you live in a country where cryptocurrency is legal, you can report it to the police for help tracking where your Dogecoin
was sent.

Unfortunately, it would be hard for him to track the hacker.
That was last year. So someone got a hold of his wallet and sent it somewhere.
I don't think someone can help you bring back your coins. Hard lesson learned.
You can check some useful tips from the users above. But right now, you can't do anything much to get back your coins.

You are definitely right on this one where hacks can be always on that inside job thing which I do suspect out that this do particular connects out to those people who are just with you inside the house.

If there are other people or members of the family which do knows about crypto or friend of yours that do know about it and then you did just let your friend surfed or make use of your pc
without even knowing that he's trying to search up those keys then you're done.

Its already a big amount on the current increase of DOGE price and there's no way to get it back so its better to move on and better save your money on hiring some PI
for this incident.

Really sorry about this mate, you were hacked and at this point there's nothing you can do to retrieve those coins , they are gone for good I bet the hacker who stole it would have probably sold it out at a cheaper price, it was your job to keep your computer or private keys safe, but it seems you didn't and somehow it got into the hands of someone else., this shows that we should always be conscious and make security of our holding a top priority.

There is no possible way that anyone can retrieve that from the hacker. And that happened last year? I guess those were already spent even before the bull run for Dogecoin came.

This is very unfortunate and there’s no other way to get it back, I know its hard because its value today is crazy but you have to move on and learn from this big mistake, we all have to move on after we lose. This is why its very important to protect your wallet always, and never share anything to anyone.

You can't get it back, the best thing that you can do to help yourself is moving on, thinking that or remembering always about this incident makes you feel bad and you will only blame yourself, this is really frustrating because of the price of DogeCoin right now, but that's the only way to solve this problem.

You can't and why? it's caused by the coin already mixed when it was coming to the exchange site's hot wallet.
that means if your coins will be unable to be traced. Even when you are asking the exchange site to reveal the identity that used scammer's wallet address and it might be impossible.
Move one dude.

I have been tracing the tx from the hacker's address and your coin already mixed to the various address. it's difficult to determine which exchange site that used to exchange your address.

Most of the transactions in crypto are irreversible and although it isn't anonymous, it really is hard to track or trace unless you are good to it.

600k DOGE right now is at around ~$27,000 which is a huge amount of money already. There is nothing you can do about it unfortunately :(. Move on, learn from it and invest again :).

This is so huge, the transaction cannot be reverted back into your wallet. There’s some scenarios happen that their wallet also got hacked so it is very important to secure our coins. Since your wallet got hacked we cannot do something about where and whom it sends. The price of doge pump these days but you still have the chance to recover your loss invest on some project that will bring profit to you.

Title: Re: 600,000 DOGE Stolen - Please Help
Post by: whyrqa on February 06, 2021, 02:18:15 PM
it is a pity that a person had such a problem, but we all must once again learn a good lesson from this and forget about the safety of our cryptocurrency assets. If a person has not used a wallet since 2014, then the probability of losing secret keys on the Internet is very small, especially if a person has an idea of the safety of secret information. Based on this, we can conclude that we are all under the gun of a hacker and any wallet cannot be secure, with the exception of a hardware wallet.
Perhaps it is worth paying attention to the fact where Doge was stored and perhaps the administration of the resource appropriated these coins, since they decided that they were lost, since there were no movements for six years.

I'm sorry, for the loss of your doge, if your PC has been hit by malware we can't do anything, I personally would be crazy to lose that much, but this could be your lesson, to be more careful, and my advice if it's more than 10k to move your assets  to a wallet that has double security to access it

Title: Re: 600,000 DOGE Stolen - Please Help
Post by: SaShiRaJaVu on February 06, 2021, 05:38:31 PM
There is nothing you can do but feel sorry for yourself. No one can help you. However hackers have moved your assets to a new address, you will no longer be able to find it. But be careful for the future, so that hackers do not get access to your PC. My wallet was also hacked in 2018, I suffered a lot; From then on I used my wallet very carefully.
Have you identified how your wallet got hacked and what are the steps you took to avoid these. The only option for anyone to hack your computer is when you are not taking your security or privacy seriously. If you have the basic understanding about how to secure your computer you wont be loosing your coins, before investing make sure you are secured enough to hold the money, if not do not spare your time in investing.

Sorry for your loss but I would recommend you to stop reading the comments here and go to the police ASAP. Maybe they will be able to track the hacker. If the hacker has sent the coins to an exchange and the account is verified, maybe they can find who did it.
You need to know in which country he lives and there cryptocurrency is legal or illegal, if legal then he can get help from police. In the hacker wallet this coin was hold just for 2 days in his wallet since hacked, so i think already sold out an exchange even though no need to use verified/KYC account for trade such amount of tokens. He is unlikely to ever get back this stolen token.

This is unfortunate  :( Sadly it's irreversible and there's nothing you can do about it. One thing that put you at a disadvantage is the transaction of the hacking because its discovery is 5 months behind the hacking incident. You could possibly track it and find out the exchange where the hacker puts your DOGE at and that will be your chance to make an appeal in it.

Well, you hadn't bother about those Dogecoins since 2014, hadn't put them on well-protected digital wallet and now in 8 years complain that someone hacked them. Just don't bother about Doges again. Faith the reality, you lost your Doges forever and can do nothing with this. Your situation might be a good experience for you to protect crypto in future.

Yes, you may be right, understand that they weren't actually worth very much until the recent activity so I hadn't really thought about them since 2014.
It was not an inside job.
I think perhaps my PC did have some malware and I did have an old wallet.dat file in a folder.
I have formatted the hard drive and changed all my passwords to unique passwords using a generator.

Thanks for all your comments,

Does anyone know how to use https://ciphertrace.com/financial-investigations-and-blockchain-forensics/ (https://ciphertrace.com/financial-investigations-and-blockchain-forensics/) or anything similar as I would really like to know which exchange received the stolen coins so I can at least make an inquiry.

Thanks,
