Title: Help with Metamask Chrome extension on PC
Post by: Unsaint32 on February 05, 2021, 01:16:23 AM
Any Metamask users?  I am using Chorme browser extension Metamask on Windows PC.  My Metamask has a regular Metamask account and a hardware Metamask account.  The hardware account is linked to my Ledger Nano S.  I am trying to send ETH from that hardware Metamask Ledger account to a regular Metamask account.  So, I set up the amount to send and press confirm.  After that I see the circling orange bars and eventually the transaction got failed.  There is no instruction on how to do this anywhere.  Did I need to approve that transaction with the Ledger Nano?  If so, I did not get any prompt to do so.  Also, if I didn't have to approve that with the Nano, what is the point of using a hardware wallet?

The cause of the transaction failure is most likely due to low gas limit (this is different from gas fee) and not an issue with your hardware wallet. You can confirm this by checking with explorer like etherscan.io

The next time you send, you can check the recommended gas fees at https://ethgasstation.info/ first. For gas limit, 21K is the normal amount but perhaps you can increase that to make sure your transaction goes through.

Bttzed is right.

I've done transactions for Eth many times and whether it's on Metamask or not but if you are about to send and it keeps on failing, you only need to increase the gwei.

It shall be fine if you adjust it higher and you'll see that it will go through.

Just a piece of advice, better get metamask application on your smartphone and lock with fingerprint than using as add-on on pc browsers, you are more exposed to attacks this way, and even more worse if you got other browser add-ons too, metamask is now fully standalone on android phones

The metamask extension is actually safe to use so long as you download the genuine extension. I have never heard of an incident of an attack on the extension. The most common scams are orchestrated through fake or phishing metamask extensions which anybody sensible can avoid if they download the right app
