Title: HTML signature
Post by: HOT_HEAD on February 05, 2021, 07:24:03 PM
Could html signature writing be implemented, are we stuck with this old form of styling it or is there any converted that could covert html to the code used on the forum?

No, AFAIK it only works for bbc codes

Signatures are displayed at the bottom of each post or personal message. BBC code and smileys may be used in your signature.

By using google found this converter https://html2bbcode.ru/converter/ but don't expect it will convert every html tags, coz making good-looking signatures is somewhat difficult for signature non-designers ofc.

yeah, I know, but bbc codes look really, really messy. I didn't really look into all of that, just a thought about html popped into my mind.

If you wanna learn how to make signature codes with BB code, here is a link that might be helpful to you: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1727100.0

Don't bother with doing it HTML and then converting, you are just going to waste your time.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I know html, and bbc just looks like an html code but without css as a separate thing instead it's mixed.

I suspect it would result in a few people breaking the layout of the forum.  If CSS were permitted and people can start using stuff like float/position/overflow/etc, I could envision all manner of unwanted fuckery.  It would open up some serious concerns over the potential for clickjacking as well.

Yeah, you can read on that way, you might check your profile (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2554568;sa=forumProfile) on signature label or maybe you tell theymos to change it.

After reading about bbcodes it seems they have already classified different styles of BB code. I mean one conversion site shows options like:
HTML to BBCODE
HTML to SMF (Simple Machine Forum) _____ [believe we use this one]
HTML to vB Code
HTML to IPB Code.

Site does show that while converting HTML to specific BB type will have output options like [code, [php], [xml] and multiple options too.

We will loose the <textarea> in the process or it remains unchanged. So I suspect if there are links in the bbcode they would go out of the signature space.

Same case with the order of list.

Since BitcoinTalk is based on SMF Bulletin code we have PHP and Code options. The article is interesting but not that clear, still they have managed to make this converter.

But as @bL4nKcode said, it would be a real mess.

**In my opinion We are just doing fine with the current methodology.
