Title: 8-bitcoin? C64-coin? could this be a thing?
Post by: dribile on February 11, 2021, 05:32:27 AM
I was thinking about the 21 million bitcoin limit, and having lived through the 80s, was also thinking about the ~15 million Commodore 64s sold.

So I'm curious if there is anyone out here with deep C64 knowledge that would know if there is something unique about the Commodore 64 that would be difficult to emulate?

Instead of proof-of-work, there would be something like "proof-of-old-hardware", or p-o-o-h, for short.   :D

Getting old hardware to mine bitcoin is a geeky and fun thing to do, but would it be cool to have a coin that could *only* be mined on a C64?

I know there's the VICE emulator, and that it's pretty accurate. So maybe using that would be a way to speed up the mining algorithm on modern machines. Or if there's something VICE can't do, then you would *need* a C64 to mine the coin.

This is a crazy idea, and I'm hoping to get some crazy responses!  ;D
