Title: Heroes of Bitcoin - A thanks to the many good people.
Post by: podpaymentcoin on February 12, 2021, 03:51:57 PM
With Bitcoin and the wider crypto ecosystem on fire, it is important to remember the heroes that made it all happen:

01. Satoshi Nakamoto        :  Founder. Spent 4 years developing Bitcoin (2007 - end2010).
02. Hal Finney                   :  First Bitcoin user, supporter and developer
03. Gavin Andresen            :  Selected dev lead by Satoshi Nakamoto
04. The Real DPR               :  Founder of Silkroad! Proved Bitcoin usage on mass scale.
05. BitBoy                         :  Creator of Bitcoin logo. Marketing breakthru & identity.
06. Laszlo Hanyecz             :  Legendary 10,000BTC pizza purchase. Real world eureka moment.
07. Community Developers :  https://bitcoin.org/en/development#bitcoin-core-contributors (https://bitcoin.org/en/development#bitcoin-core-contributors)
08. Andreas Antonopoulos  :  Bitcoin educator and community champion
09. Roger Ver                    :  First generation Bitcoin ecosystem investor
10. Elon Musk                    :  Fourth generation evangelist and community champion

Many thanks to all the key contributors and believers that made the impossible possible!

Elon Musk? I don't think he qualifies. He has done nothing except buy some bitcoins. Putting "#bitcoin" in his twitter bio doesn't count as evangelizing.

pros and cons are going on here...
I'm not really sure if Elon really supports Bitcoin but in fact, the whole media spotlighted him when he said Tesla had invested billions of dollars in Bitcoin. Even though Elon sounds new in the crypto world, his influence is very big cmiiw.

02. Hal Finney                   :  First Bitcoin user, supporter and developer

Hal finney deserves some special commendation. To be the first to believe in the vision of crypto is something really. I just did a quick research about him and i found out that as far back as January 2009, Hal finney tweeted -"Running bitcoin". His believe that bitcoin was something revolutionary is commendable.

I just found out about this information, this is very interesting. but is Minner not one of the people who contributed to the bitcoin journey? if so, who is he and what contribution he makes to greatly affect the market.

Well, for the not anonymous person like Hal, --he deserves to say thank you, he has contributed a lot in the crypto and the most that we say "thank you so much" is him, Hal. But why Elon Musk was there? Is he really belong on that list?
I don't think so, perhaps you meant that he is boosting the price of bitcoin recently and that is contributed a lot and it should complete from the first to fourth generations that you mean. :D I don't see the effort of this man.

Elon Musk only contributes with the fact that he is both popular and rich, which makes his tweets and bio on twitter about bitcoin a great impact to the BTC price. Nonetheless, it doesn't really dealt a huge change as he only started being active on shilling crypto on twitter the time that BTC already skyrocketing upon 20K price point. He would count as a contributor to the current price range of BTC with his 1.5B USD investment on Bitcoin and continuous endorsement on it.

I sort of get your point, but he has caused more and more people to think long and hard about joining the crypto space. If it wasn't for him these intensified talks wouldn't happen, and now that he's on board the regulations around BTC and crypto in general should be playing in our favour. It exposed the market and it caused a good amount of hype.

Though, even still he is probably not as dedicated as all the others listed by the OP, so I agree that this is not the best place to put Elon. A sub-category would be a better fit.

I will never forget all of these people except for Roger Ver which I almost forgot. Been watching his videos in the past, giving bitcoin to people, and as far as I know, he also went to Japan giving BTC? Either way, I agree that Elon Musk is not included in this list. Yes, he did that tweet but that doesn't mean that he is already a "hero" of bitcoin.

What about the Winklevoss twins? They pushed bitcoin ETF in the past, while it was not approved, they are still supporting bitcoin. They should be one of these people and not Elon Musk.

I don't think that he's new to it but he has contributed recently to the market but compare with those on the list, they truly have contributed a lot during the early days.

I agree about the twins, they're like Ver before. One of the earliest investors that have believed on it.

Making any top 10 list is a difficult task. Each of the names mentioned help take Bitcoin to the next level. Elon has actually been championing Bitcoin for many years. His reach covers Institutional C-level execs via Tesla, fans and followers of SpaceX, The Boring Company etc. This is a next level bump up for Bitcoin. Slot 10 could have been many folks but Elon fits the current trajectory.  Winklevoss twins are an honourable mention too.

Thanks OP for this thread. But I feel like you are missing other personalities who have also contributed to the expansion of bitcoin.

Charlie Shrem
Almost 10 years ago I discovered #bitcoin and made a conscious decision to make it my life’s work. I had a vision that if we created a financial system that didn’t require permission to join, it would completely change how humans work together. Satoshi would be proud of us all.

Charlie Lee
His Twitter cover of him says it all.

https://twitter.com/SatoshiLite/ (https://twitter.com/SatoshiLite/)

Plan B
His analysis and support for bitcoin has been very valuable on Twitter. Anyone who reads this tweet knows how to interpret how convinced he is in bitcoin.

BREAKING ... I quit my job (PlanA) and start focusing on #bitcoin (PlanB) full time as of March 1st! 😎

Jack
https://twitter.com/jack/ (https://twitter.com/jack/)

Dan Held
https://twitter.com/danheld/ (https://twitter.com/danheld/)

Michael Saylor
Michael Saylor is a major investor who with so little time joining bitcoin has worked hard to get more investors to join like he did.
As you know this was the response that he shared with Elon Musk.

If you want to do your shareholders a $ 100 billion please, convert the $ TSLA balance sheet from USD to #BTC. Other firms on the S&P 500 would follow your lead & in time it would grow to become a $ 1 trillion favor.

...

And others that escape me.

Many thanks to all the key contributors and believers that made the impossible possible!
I'm sorry I will have to condemn Roger Ver and Elon Musk out of the hero of Bitcoin list.
Roger Ver invested in Bitcoin then cause he believe it to be the future technology in terms of currency which did happen but he later created BCH just to compete with Bitcoin maybe he can navigate the investor/market attention to his BCH and his current tweet prove it.

Elon Musk in the other invested in Bitcoin because of the change of hands between him and the Microguy CEO.

Too much polemics about Elon Musk being positive or not for bitcoin community.
Like any other human of course he has personal interests, but we can't deny the fact that someone with his influence (especially in technological field) can boost bitcoin price and adoption a lot, leading a new FOMO (fear of missing out) wave among businessmen. Looking how much money he put into bitcoin will make other corporations also invest in bitcoin before it's too late. It seems a good thing, right?

Maybe to say he is a hero is an overstatement, but his audacity and pioneer spirit are admirable.

03. Gavin Andresen            :  Selected dev lead by Satoshi Nakamoto

Gavin did a lot of good things early, but he also did controversial things like supporting forks and claiming that CWS is Satoshi.

06. Laszlo Hanyecz             :  Legendary 10,000BTC pizza purchase. Real world eureka moment.

He is also an early Bitcoin Core contributor, so he definitely shouldn't be remembered as just a pizza guy.

09. Roger Ver                    :  First generation Bitcoin ecosystem investor

Is this some sort of shilling? Everyone knows that Ver is the enemy of Bitcoin.

10. Elon Musk                    :  Fourth generation evangelist and community champion

No he isn't, he just recently made a big purchase and that's it. He is not on the same level as someone like Andreas Antonopoulos.

If we were to put Elon there then we might as well put Michael Saylor on the list. But if in terms of supporting bitcoin, I think that he is on the same realm as Hal Finney, the only difference is that Hal was the first user, supporter and developer. In a way, I think that the word evangelize fits Elon's because there are some of his supporters that changed their mind when he started supporting bitcoin, we don't know if there is one but we know that he has a lot of followers on Twitter and the odds are higher that they were not firm believer of bitcoin.

Let me introduce you to Ver, he is the same person who has been scamming lots of newcomers who wanted to buy bitcoin but were unfortunate enough to end up in his website called bitcoin.com where he sold them a shitcoin called bitcoin-cash instead.

I agree that Elon Musk contributed just a little in terms of hard work and time spent to make Bitcoin the way it is now. However, many people considered him as a type of hero all because of his influence. People are listening to him and even if they are doing it blindly nothing can deny the power of Elon Musk especially at the time when Bitcoin is already on the bull run stage putting more gas to the fire, as they said.  On the many technical sides, nothing beats the people as mentioned and enumerated above and we should be thankful for their many enormous contributions which actually led to the creation of the whole cryptocurrency industry not just Bitcoin.

He just pumped the price of bitcoin but doesn't really contributed that much in bitcoin.

Maybe if we are talking about the Doge coin, he will qualify especially that he promotes it much more compared to bitcoin.

Manipulating a coin which is supposed to be a meme really helped him, especially that there are a lot of Doge coin investor due to his advertisements in Twitter and other social media platforms.

If you add about Elon Musk, you need to add McAffee too ;D

People who involve in the bitcoin world help bitcoin grow from time to time, including us. Even if we only use bitcoin for personal and don't spread the news about bitcoin to many people, we still help the network run so far. Many people out there early adopters of bitcoin, but they don't tell who they are. You can name any people you know, but we still have many other heroes we don't know.

Or perhaps you can replace Elon Musk with Theymos the one and only bitcointalk admin who did a lot of efforts and contributions to this bitcoin community, too. Without this bitcointalk forum, we can't be able to learn and we cant see some advertisements coming from here.

You forgot also Wei Dai, who has a great contributions to the field of cryptohraphy and cryptocurrency. Indeed a good compiter engineer who put a lot of effort too in cryptocurrency.

Well according  here (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wei_Dai);

Quote
Wei Dai and Adam Back were the first two people contacted by Satoshi Nakamoto as he was developing Bitcoin in 2008 and the b-money paper was referenced in the subsequent Bitcoin whitepaper.

Thus, that two were also a part of this great blockchain technology.

I would also put Saylor among the most recent ones, I think he has done a great job in a short period of time.

Despite that we are grateful for Elon Musk in pushing Bitcoin’s price way beyond our expectations, I think he’s still far away from being an “evangelist”. Unless if he finally proves to us that he advocates Bitcoin with passion every single day and not just on a temporary basis, I think Elon has a chance. It’s just my own opinion anyways.

You are right Elon Musk, is not qualify to make the list due to the fact that he did not commit through the development he is an investor not a developer santoshi is the hero of the moment.

Elon Musk isn't a true Bitcoin Core supporter. He just wants to invest some money in BTC and get a profit.
People like Michael Saylor and Jack Dorsey are way more pro-Bitcoin than Musk.
I guess that you put Elon Musk in your list, only because he's the richest person in the world and a very popular entrepreneur.
Roger Ver had some contribution to the early Bitcoin Network, but since the BTC fork and the creation of Bitcoin cash (BCH),he doesn't deserve to be on this list.

Tough for me to see many names missing, and then some all lumped together as developers, maybe even painful to see the marketer actually be above educators (all due respect of course).

Heroes does carry a connotation of courage, though, to me, so some in there have actually gone through risks -- body, reputation -- to further Bitcoin's cause.

At least one in there has threatened to harm Bitcoin though;)

Thank you for mentioning Ver because I forgot about him, hahaha lol.

But we need to thank Satoshi Nakamoto for introducing bitcoin to us to learn about bitcoin, have bitcoin, and make more bitcoin. We all know that bitcoin can be a new source of income and for investment because of him.

If we can teach other people about bitcoin, they will thank us for giving them the information about the new income source they can use to make money.

I strongly feel the same way here,
If that is how it would work then there are tons of people who are more than qualified to be on the list.
Those who are early contributors on Bitcoin those who had defend Bitcoin on scam accusation not just someone who puts #Bitcoin on their Bio.
If everyone who are rich would be on the list because of putting up the word Bitcoin on their social media then isn't it a bit shameful for those who really did contribute to the Bitcoin?

Elon Musk has nothing to do with BTC development, the biggest part he did was to invest in BTC and BTC exposure since he likes tweeting random stuff about crypto. Elon is a good figure and most crypto enthusiasts follow his twit. However, he trolls most of the time. We got a lot of good people in crypto who helped on BTC's development and exposure, they all deserve all the gratitude people are giving them.
