Title: Account Nuked, but posts made by the account can still be seen
Post by: logfiles on February 18, 2021, 10:22:30 PM
I always thought that once an account is Nuked. All the posts that were made by the account would get wiped off along with activity points rendering the account brand new in rank

But in this particular case, surfgott (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1186551) was nuked according to mod log,

But one can still view the posts that were made by the account, meaning, they were not deleted: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1186551;sa=showPosts
So, what are we looking at here?

The account surfgott (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1186551) is not nuked. Although this is a very interesting situation when the post counter shows zero, but in fact the user has five posts. Forum engine bug.

Could this be a case of a previously nuked user getting unbanned, because the Mod log is showing that the profile was nuked as shown in the screenshot?

Yes you are right. This user was nuked and then he was manually reactivated and the posts restored. This results in the behavior as described by you.
Posts and activity remains in such cases on 0 but this is a bug that is negligible. Such a situation is an exception and therefore not worth more effort.

Any concrete explanation why these newbie accounts are wearing avatar(gif too)? I've seen many of them I didn't want to paint the thread so I brought just these. Is there any unknown way to bypass the avatar wearing rules? i doubt. I'm curious thou ;D

@igehhh
All those accounts were created in 2010-2011. Back in those days, all accounts could wear an avatar. When the rules were changed and only Full Members and above were allowed to wear avatars, the users who already had avatars on their profiles were left with theirs. But it was no longer possible for avatars to be added on accounts ranked Full Members and below after the rule change.

Edit: I also considered that the users could have deleted their posts and had an avatar before doing that. But in that case, they would have the necessary merits for a Full Member rank.

Thanks for the information the user Why is very still active I just wondering what goes into the mind of a newbie when they see their fellow newbies with a gif avatar, looks weird, and fishy ;D. It could've been better to enforce the new rules on all accounts though. Well, what do I know?

  • Newbie restrictions (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=15958.0) (before June 12 2011, newbies were allowed to upload avatars)
  • Avatars re-enabled (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1008863.0) (since April 1 2015, Full members + only)
  • Animated avatars are detected and disabled (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5114171.msg49921264#msg49921264)

It can be glitch by users who have ranks below Full members but wore avatars before April 1 2015 OR they are Full members after that day, worn avatar, and deleted their avatar later.

I thought of two possible reasons according to their registration dates and total merits those account have.
