Title: 3060 Hash rates - a couple actual hash rates and a small ROI chart- NVIDIA Fail
Post by: Toughit on February 27, 2021, 03:57:14 PM
I received my 3060 two days ago, I paid $412 with tax at Amazon, purchased last week in a pre-sale.

Installing was no fun, it would not work on my Windows 64 1709 version, even after fully updating.  I ended up formatting a new SSD with the latest windows.

NVIDIA does throttle the Ethereum hash rate. Dagerhashimoto mining starts at 47 and then it quickly drops down to the mid 20’s.

I managed to get about 26mH steady in Nicehash using PhoenixMiner.

Based on Nicehash prices today (which have dropped 40% from Monday), the card would make $2.12/ day.

On Nicehash Octopus I am mining at a steady hashrate of 44.3 (42.6 at Nicehash) with 125 watts (as reported by NBMiner).  Yesterday that was bringing in $3.80, today about $3.20.

The first chart shows breakeven (ROI), not counting electricity cost or taxes. (Pink line is Ethereum today, the rest are Octopus).

Mining Ethereum at 26mH at $2.12 (today), breakeven is about 193 days (Pink line).
Mining Octopus:
$4.00/day, ROI is about 102 days (blue line)
$3.00/day gives ROI at about 140 days (grey line).

Either way, a 3060 at retail price gives a decent return, not stellar, but worth it.  All depends on what this market is doing.

In other words  NICE FAIL NVIDIA!

Update:  Octopus mining fluctuating, Making $4.27/ day at the moment, about 96 days ROI...

Edit 2: Nicehash dashboard reporting $7.47/day (this jumps up and down a lot) - ROI just 56 days! (dreaming a little, it won't stay at this peak but hope they read this at NVIDIA!)

Thanks for the info. Big fail indeed.

Nicehash can be volatile if a big high paying order closes out. All that hash has to be redistributed
immediately to other orders pushing the price down significantly for miners.
Watching the order page in action can be very enlightening.

has anyone tried mining other altcoins such as RVN? I'm curious as to how they compare to limited ETH mining and which one is more worth it.

Not a lot of people have the card.
Mine comes on Tuesday.

I will get it on nicehash and report back.

This is my card.

IIRC you have the same card.

So I tested my Eagle 3060 which arrived today. Getting 23.4 on KawPow(RVN) at 135W. Haven't fully adjusted it to maximize efficiency, just using +50/+1350 for now at 78%. So if you bought it at MSRP you're looking at a <150 day ROI. It's going to be very amusing if these cards have a shorter ROI period than their CMP series.

I can't imagine what Nvidia was thinking.  Their managers making a decision like this makes no sense, if the price of Eth doubles, then the card is fantastic...

Like as if Goodyear designed tires that lose air when going over 65, or Sony making a radio that won't play Neil Young, or a toaster that won't toast wheat bread, you just alienate a segment of people on purpose.

Octopus mining steady at 44.2 all day, rates fluctuating from $3.02 up to $7, currently $3.54.

Nvidia: release the fix for your mistake!

Nvidia did this to sell $15 million worth of the new low end mining cards to industrial farms next month.  We get a little longer with a little less eth difficulty jump and early miners like you get a month of great Octupus mining!

Short term this seems like a win for everyone including scalpers.  Maybe not so much for pure gamers.

3060 might not be bad idea with eth cutting rewards.  I think Octopus prefoms very poorly on most AMD and 1000 series cards, might keep hash power away from a while.

what about progpow there is still good coin beside eth to mine with this quite handy number of cuda core, should be faster than predecessor in term compute algo

with memory algo ddr6 pretty efficent and quite fast, sadly i cant get on sale, now they 2x msrp lol

Is the consensus to mine Octopus (CFX) using the Nicehash pool or something like woolypooly (currently has 39% of the CFX hashrate according to https://miningpoolstats.stream/conflux)

I think Nicehash has 890gH to Wollypooly's 390.  https://www.nicehash.com/algorithm/octopus (https://www.nicehash.com/algorithm/octopus)

I mine Nicehash for Octo because:

1) I don't want another wallet
2) I'm just converting to BTC anyway
3) I only have this one card mining Octo, all other cards are on ETH
4) I have no idea what shady exchanges CFX might be on
5) I suspect 1 card mining might be weeks before I get enough mining to receive a payout
6) Too lazy to figure out the transfer path from mining to exchange to my bank
7) it took about 60 seconds to switch to OCTO on Nicehash instead of hours spent figuring out how to do a new wallet, etc.
8 ) I don't need another coin to watch

the number will upside down soon, and we're ready for it, the plane will crash and many miner will jump from the board

some gpus will hit the market again, and gamer will be happy to grab from miner panicking, hope your not leaving the ships as we do
