Title: How big problem is malicious version of Phoenix Miner + What shall I do?
Post by: Ad4mM4dda on March 08, 2021, 06:30:36 PM
Hey guys, I am super noob and I've probably downloaded some shitty malicious version of "Phoenix Miner".
I'd be glad for any info + sorry if I put this in wrong topic or do something here.

File: PhoenixMiner_5.5c_Windows_AMD_NVIDIA (Password-phoenix).zip
SHA1 hash: e397e6de4b9d5a472670b8480592774d9d3e2e27
The link where I got this version from was https://mega.nz/folder/7igEURTK, which is most likely from https://phoenixminer.org/.

Is it bad? If yes, how much, thanks.

From what I have just read in the OFFICIAL thread, that is the bad version. Delete it and download it direct from the OFFICIAL THREAD.

At the first page of the phoenix miner thread there is now a github link, download 5.5c from there as it is the official thread and reliable.

Avoid all other versions unless they are posted there IN THE FIRST PAGE from phoenixminer.

Thanks, for your tip and respond!
By the way, don't you know how big problem could it be? Like if I should reinstall my PC or change passwords, etc., because the software was mining on my 'school computer' with all paswords of mine and important things.

Also thank you for the respond. I'd like to ask another question just in case if you would know. Do you think that it's a big problem that I've used this Miner at my Computer with important things? Should I change my passwords or even reinstall computer? Thank you very much and have a nice rest of the day.

To be on the safe side, I would say yes: change your passwords and reinstall your system. Did the program require admin privilege ?

I'd go even further than that....

I'd start by grabbing a new copy of the latest bios and update your motherboard asap. Many viruses and malware are designed to stay in the BIOS and can reload onto any connected hard drive / boot device...

Then grab a new hard drive and reinstall your OS and ONLY use this new HD for mining in the future.
