Title: Pancakeswap and other DeFi is under attack! Be careful!
Post by: Beparanf on March 15, 2021, 03:44:38 PM
Most of the DeFi website especially PancakeSwap is is being hijack right now. Don't put your privatekey / recovery seed right and wait for the official announcement of the project when all is clear now. Your funds is safe as long you didn't login on the website. Keep safe!

Defi projects on binance smart chain were creating too much hype and everyone was thinking as BSC could replace the ethereum blockchain. Now everyone must understand that even though eth take too much fee, but it is more safe.

Everyone should relaize by now that Uniswap is much better than pancakeswap  .

Do you still remember the "hack" that happened with MyEtherWallet a while ago? what do you think about it since it is the same problem(DNS hack)?
It has nothing to do with the Blockchain itself, saying Ethereum is better because of this problem is wrong since it is clearly not their fault.
And as far as I know, it is not only happening in Pancakeswap but Cream Finance too.

Yes and CZ was also confirmed if this is DNS attack

There is still a question about how is it possible for the DNS to get hijacked by the hackers easily. I do believe some people may get affected due to this attack.

Binance Smart Chain is centralized that's why hackers can easily attack DNS and they can hit all the project using because are connected to a central control system. This is the cons of having a centralized blockchain though. Somehow it is good that this kind of attack happened on early so that BSC devs will further tighten its security for future more money on the line in there financing website.

Well I have used pancakeswap just once for swapping some tokens. In DeFi pancakeswap is one the most trusted ones still I avoid trading with all of these.

I agree about ethereum/uniswap, but DNS hijack didn't mean to be an hacking on BSC smart contract or not even related to the blockchain as it's only related to website/domain which is hijacked and redirect any users into the hacker website. So, it totally depend on the company which provides the domain and hosting service as well as website's security.

BTW, it's 100% right that BSC hype won't long last and ethereum will back to its previous position based on transection fees.

Such types of attack do not concern over blockchain but rather they are attacks on the domain names of the clients browser. The attacker corrupts a DSN server by replacing a legitimate IP address in the server’s cache with that of another, rogue address in order to redirect traffic to a malicious website, collect information or initiate another attack which is also called Cache poisoning.Pancakeswap was being overrated due to the DeFi projects but it still lags in many aspects which need to be taken care of.

Again, how is it has something to do with Binance Smart Chain being centralized? I am not a fan of BSC but this is clearly out of topic.
Even if it happens now, there is still a chance for other projects to get attacked again since it is the problem on their front end.
It is DNS hijacking, take a quick look here: https://blog.eccouncil.org/what-is-dns-hijacking-and-how-to-combat-it/

This is the worst way to manage this disaster. The solution wasn't to post on their social networks to not login, the solution should be to take down the site until they fix the problem. It's totally unresponsible the way they manage this vulnerability because I don't think all the users from that swap follow them in their social networks.

At least they should add a banner with a warning on their site. This way it makes me feel the problem was an internal job. They are not professional with this reaction.
