Bitcoin has won over some of America's best-known billionaires, and institutions worldwide are treating it as a serious financial asset. But bitcoin's rising price is only one part of the story.

Whether they know it or not, people who buy bitcoin are strengthening a tool for protecting human rights. This still relatively new form of electronic money is censorship-resistant, seizure-resistant, borderless, permissionless, pseudonymous, programmable, and peer-to-peer.

In bitcoin, transactions don't go through banks or financial intermediaries. They travel directly from one person to another.

Payment processing is done not by a regulated company such as Visa or Mastercard but by a decentralized global software network. Storage is handled not by a bank but by the users themselves.

Bitcoin issuance isn't determined by central bankers. The currency's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, set it to have an ultimate limit of 21 million. No one can ever print more.

Bitcoin transactions can't be stopped, and you don't need to reveal your name or address or telephone number to participate. You just need internet access.

In 2017, the economist Paul Krugman described bitcoin as "some fancy technological thing that nobody really understands. There's been no demonstration yet that it actually is helpful in conducting economic transactions. There's no anchor for its value."

Krugman lives in a sheltered environment in a liberal democracy with constitutional protections. His native currency is globally dominant and relatively stable. It's easy for him to open a bank account, to use a mobile app to pay bills, or to grow his wealth by investing in real estate or stocks.

But not everyone has that level of privilege. Around 4.2 billion people live under authoritarian regimes that use money as a tool for surveillance and state control. Their currency is often debased, and they are, for the most part, cut off from the international system that Krugman enjoys. For them, saving and transacting outside the government's purview isn't shady business. It's a way to preserve their freedoms.

In China, if you type or utter one wrong word, the Communist Party might eliminate your financial services. This devastating outcome creates a chilling effect for dissidents and creative minds, who are forced to use the country's increasingly centralized digital economy.

In Hong Kong or Russia, donors to human rights organizations can see their bank accounts suspended and funds seized.

Over the past few months in Belarus and Nigeria, nationwide protests have broken out against tyranny and corruption. In both places, activists raising money to support the democracy movement have had their bank accounts frozen.

Just a few days ago, in Burma's latest coup, the military shut down the banking system and turned off the ATMs.

For activists living under state repression, bitcoin provides a way to preserve their money in cyberspace, locked away by encryption, safe from devaluation, in a network that has never been hacked. For them, it's digital cash and digital gold rolled into one.

And in Cuba, Nigeria, China, Pakistan, Venezuela, Russia, Turkey, Argentina, Palestine, Zimbabwe, and elsewhere, bitcoin is catching on and helping people escape tyranny and currency collapse.

In the past few months, Belarusian activists have used bitcoin to defy the regime by sending more than 3 million dollars of unstoppable money directly to striking workers, who then convert it locally to rubles in peer-to-peer marketplaces to feed their families as they protest the country's dictatorship.

In October, a feminist coalition in Nigeria raised the equivalent of tens of thousands of dollars in bitcoin to buy gas masks and protest equipment as activist bank accounts were being turned on and off.

In Russia, the opposition politician Alexei Navalny has raised millions in bitcoin as Vladimir Putin maintains strict control over the traditional financial system. Putin can do a lot of things, but he can't freeze a bitcoin account.

In Iran and Palestine and Cuba, individuals face sanctions or embargoes because of the misdeeds of their corrupt rulers. Bitcoin gives them a lifeline for earning income or receiving remittances from abroad.

Some Venezuelans, having watched their country's currency evaporate due to hyperinflation, are converting their resources to bitcoin's digital format and then escaping. With their savings secured by a password that can be stored on a flash drive, phone, or even memorized, they've started new lives in other countries, taking advantage of a technology that refugees throughout history could only dream about.

The citizens of democracies also face financial controls, deplatforming, and an ever-expanding surveillance state. But those lucky enough to live in open societies can vote, sue, protest, and write, and those methods might allow them to protect their financial freedom and privacy. The billions who live under authoritarian governments don't have the same options.

Unlike democracy, bitcoin is universally available. You don't need to have a particular passport or bank card or voting status to use it. No government can turn off your bitcoin if it's threatened by your ideas.

We are in the middle of a great digital transformation, a time when cash, one of the last bastions of privacy and freedom, is disappearing. People rely increasingly on easily surveilled apps such as Apple Pay and AliPay—and, perhaps soon, central bank–issued digital currencies as their primary medium of exchange.

Bitcoin provides an alternative to our increasingly centralized financial system. It gives any activist or journalist a way to raise funds without censorship, a way to save despite the corrosive impact of excessive money printing, and a way to teleport value without permission.

Bitcoin wasn't as powerful five years ago, before it had global liquidity. But today, exchanges have popped up in every region, daily trading volume exceeds that of Apple and other popular stocks, and peer-to-peer marketplaces such as Paxful and LocalBitcoins have extended their reach, enabling users to sell bitcoin for local currency almost anywhere in the world.

Maybe you don't need bitcoin. Maybe you don't understand bitcoin. Maybe PayPal, Venmo, or your bank account serves your needs just fine.

But don't write off bitcoin as simply a vehicle for financial speculation. For millions of people around the world, it's an escape hatch from tyranny—nothing less than freedom money.

....

This makes a case for bitcoin being literal "freedom money" for many in the world who have been deplatformed or had accounts frozen by banks. It cites political opposition to Vladimir Putin utilizing it for funding. Dissidents in nigeria, iran, palestine, cuba, belarus & many other places the same.

I wish the political angle wasn't so heavily emphasized in this day and age. Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are amazing stand alone inventions without mentioning political implications of the technology. Crypto expands peoples horizons & changes the way we think about money for the better imo.

The above point sounds terrifying btw. Maybe its time to begin discussing potential methods to curb these forms of abuse?

It's such a huge claim. Sometimes I cringe on certain claims made by Bitcoin fans. I don't necessarily disagree with them, but sometimes they just seem to portray Bitcoin as something heaven-sent, capable of addressing the most fundamental issues of humanity.

Many a time have I heard of claims such as Bitcoin could highly boost a country's economy, Bitcoin could address poverty, Bitcoin could address unequal distribution of wealth, and so forth. There may be a certain amount of truth in each or even all of them but to generalize or label Bitcoin as such could actually be misleading or simply an exaggeration.

At the end of the day, Bitcoin is simply a tool, a generally neutral tool which could protect a certain human right such as the right to privacy, for example, as much as it could also be a tool used by a criminal to get away from being lawfully prosecuted and brought to justice.

Bitcoin for me is a good back up asset since it is future proof and secure. What is happening nowadays are just signs and warnings to those who are thinking of Bitcoin as just normal as fiat money and they will soon realize the true meaning of financial freedom.

Nowadays everything is politics and Bitcoin cannot be kept away from this.
If dissidents and oppressed people around the world are using BTC to survive, that's great.
They could be using any altcoin they want,or even fiat money(cash, not bank accounts) in order to survive.
Should we call paper cash or altcoins "freedom money"?Of course not.
I don't want to call Bitcoin "freedom money",because it sounds cringe and we shouldn't put BTC on a such a big pedestal and turn it into some kind of religion or a "solution to all problems"/panacea.

That news in Myanmar is true and they're almost shutting down every medium of communication for the people there. I can connect the situation from the countries who have hyper inflation like Venezuela. Like what we know on that country, bitcoin has saved a lot of citizens in their hard situation. These governments are aware of the existence of bitcoin and they don't like it at least for some. And those citizens that have managed to put their wealth into bitcoin can keep it there while they make their ways out from those countries or living to a place which they find secure and free.

Lol! Webhave seen similar things happening during the mass protest in Hongkong. The protesters were converting their money into bitcoins so that Chinese military can't trick them from their bank account. But if bitcoin is only helping us in extremely wired situations like Military coup or mass protests, then it's definitely not sending a good signal to the governments around the world. Probably that will become another good reason for them to ban it.

But nonetheless, Bitcoin is definitely helping in capital appreciation for many people here. Who are becoming richer day by day while it stays extremely difficult for the common people to earn it.

Protecting?
Please name in which of all those situations have the freedom and the human rights been protected?

Yeah, he can do a lot of things, Navalny would agree with you from its prison cell.

So, what human rights has bitcoin protected?
Are you that childish to think that a regime that has no hesitation torturing, poisoning, beating to death, and jailing people will crumble because somebody is sending a few dollars anonymously?

Many a time have I heard of claims such as Bitcoin could highly boost a country's economy, Bitcoin could address poverty, Bitcoin could address unequal distribution of wealth, and so forth. There may be a certain amount of truth in each or even all of them but to generalize or label Bitcoin as such could actually be misleading or simply an exaggeration.

Well, Bitcoin is fighting poverty in Venezuela for almost a decade but it seems like it's not succeeding at all.

I wish people would stop having such great expectations from a coin that was not designed for any of those, it's not a magic golden goose, it's not a magical safe that won't open no matter what, it's not something that can protect its user from abuse.
It's a perfect tool to make transactions and keep your money safe in a normal environment, in a stable country with no mad dictator, not in a war-torn country where the police or army is free to beat you to death if you don't tell them everything you know.

not only that, the presence of bitcoin has taught us not to see the social color, culture, country, skin color and where you come from. the most important thing is that you have the right as an individual who has the freedom to do transactions. and it is true that politics does not need to enter and participate in the realm of bitcoin, on the contrary, bitcoin accepts anyone regardless of which side of the party you come from. therefore, all state institutions and governments cannot act as a barrier to bitcoin growth, let alone try to prohibit and block our access, because these violate our rights as free individuals.

Banks and different institutions were actually underestimating Bitcoin before but as time passes by, it continuously proves that it could exceed beyond their expectations. It became a treat for them but an asset that provides financial freedom for most of us. It just needs more adoption but that will take time.

This is a big claim. Some bitcoiners disclosing that they hold bitcoins are being violated, physically attacked, tortured, and robbed of their bitcoins. That's already a violation of human rights on my books. Anyways, bitcoin is still helping people get involved in matters concerning international finances and investments. It helped improve the quality of life of some people who were lucky and smart enough to get on it at the right time. Take for example some people in Venezuela and similar countries experiencing hyperinflation. They find some utility in bitcoin that they can't find on their own currency or even USD since it's banned. There's a lot that bitcoin offers, though with every aspect that it helps to improve I'm sure there's always an opposition to it.

That's right, many are thinking that bitcoin is just nothing in which it hasn't have any use at all but the time will comes that the bitcoin will ever help them to secured their financial equity and the time will also come that the financial freedom that they are hoping and dreaming for. Bitcoin is massively spreading in different kinds of assets and we are seeing that day by day, people are becoming curious on what bitcoin is capable about so let's think about what would be the future of this bitcoin.

There is a heightened expectation about bitcoin and it is nothing new and when the price started its first rally we are hearing these stories on how investing in bitcoin will help you overcome the difficulties you face, you can come up with a story about how it will help someone and the funniest i have heard is how bitcoin could bridge the gap between the poor and rich, these narration are created by bitcoin enthusiast or investors who wants to profit because they invested in them and anyone who never invested have an heightened scrutiny that it is a bubble :D.

I don't get the part where bitcoin is protecting human rights, I mean there are 30 Basic Human Rights so I might have missed it because I don't exactly remember all of them. And if bitcoin really does protect human rights, then we should've known about it by now and if bitcoin does so then there shouldn't be a lot of bitcoin users that are getting harassed because bitcoin "protects" human rights.

Bitcoin is not protecting human rights around the world claiming that human rights have improved significantly and cited the example of economic development human rights must be linked to the right of citizens to freedom and justice. Our constitution says freedom of thought and conscience is guaranteed freedom of the press is guaranteed It also calls for the right of every citizen to freedom of speech and expression. In that case the state cannot legislate which is against this freedom.

Maybe not but for financial freedom it contribute on some parts since bitcoin users have freedom to use it without any bank interfering especially with large sum of money, but for other forms of violence well we cannot see that one since imagine how bitcoin will do it? Maybe the one who created that statement is just bitcoin fan guy and he oversized the whole situation while the reality its not contributing for now.

It is funny that the reason why bitcoin was created is now seen as "also" in the eyes of many people. Bitcoin was created to have some power over your own finances, it was created because no censorship, no permission from someone else, no borders, basically it was global currency for the "people" and not money of the governments.

And eventually the price of one bitcoin grew so rapidly and so high that people started to think that maybe this is an asset to make money, they buy it and they sell it and they try to make a profit in fiat, they want to put 1k fiat in and get 2k fiat out, so that became the most popular thing bitcoin is used for and people forgot the main reason why it was created. Hopefully overtime the more people that own bitcoin, the more people will start realizing the power of bitcoin, it is not just the price of bitcoin that matters, what it stance for matters as well.

Bitcoin is why it protects human rights I don't think so as far as my personal opinion of bitcoin isa profitable investment it also promises, but in a financial sense, everyone in the world could use bitcoin without borders or other, and maybe for people who know about bitcoin or crypto, and for people who don't know if it's protected by human rights Human beings, even the world, have been conjoined to that and, indeed, the presence of bitcoins has changed the lives of many people in the world, and that, I think, is more likely in economics to help a lot of people, and that is probably for those who know and understand crypto's world asa human rights thing. I think it could be argued asa tool or tool in the fight for that human right

Agree, if we hold bitcoin we own a certain asset that is not controlled by the government.

No one could confiscate our bitcoin unlike our bank deposits and any assets that is under the care of a government agency.
It's true that it's a real freedom as for once, it's out of government's control and that makes it unique compared to other assets.

We can agree to regulate crypto but it should not loss our method of ownership and our privacy.
Government is centralized, we bitcoiners owns a decentralized asset.

that's why bitcoin is at the top of the list and has been keeping our privacy for so long. we do not need to say who, and from where, we only need to have an electronic wallet then without intermediaries can send from one point to another without any country restrictions. As bitcoin's growth continues to advance, the majority of giant entrepreneurs and investors are aware that this will continue and provide opportunities for the world economy in the future. they also have a number of bitcoins that we cannot personally own. But despite their penchant for saving their finances, we need to worry, because sometimes the destroyers who hate bitcoin are not a few, sometimes we even clash with the government of our respective countries. This further shows that bitcoin is unstoppable, and will continue to contribute to improving the economy in the future.

I get your point, but people are free to do it because that is another use of bitcoin apart from being a payment system. People's trust in bitcoin has increased its price until it reaches ATH. Perhap it is trader and investor who often forget about this innovation in decentralized asset. But that's not entirely true because trader, investor and people who adopt bitcoin as a payment system are always in the same circle. They are the proponent of the current existence of bitcoin.

The case of the feminist group in Nigeria is very eroic. They are such brave women that to defend their cause they bought with thousands of dollars in bitcoin: anti-gas masks and protest equipment.

Definitely bitcoin is protecting human rights around the world. Bitcoin offers us the solutions that governments deny us because we work our whole lives to enjoy the benefits that our rulers should offer us. If we realize it, all cases have in common the oppression of governments or the consequences of the devaluation of the currency.

Maybe because we are free to manage our own finances when using Bitcoin, without the government being able to control the Bitcoin that we have.
This makes some people with their financial rights feel protected, it's different if we have money in the bank. The government can freeze our bank
accounts at any time for various reasons, and there are clear regulations on using fiat. If we think there is a point, our human rights can be protected
by using Bitcoin. Although it does not protect our human rights as a whole. But it is only limited to protecting the management of money that we have
in Bitcoin, and at least the many benefits that we can get by using Bitcoin.

My point is simply that while Bitcoin may be used to advance human rights causes, Bitcoin per se is not really protecting human rights. Bitcoin isn't there to promote or uphold human rights. It may be about freedom insofar as the removal of third parties in financial transactions are concerned, but such freedom is not a human right. Freedom from banks and governments is no human right.

In terms of equality, for example, Bitcoin per se is not really protecting or promoting equality. Bitcoin is there made accessible to everyone unlike certain financial products and services which highly discriminate. But does Bitcoin protect or promote equality? I don't think so. Bitcoin, for example, cannot do anything to those who are beyond the reach of electricity, internet, modern phones, computers, and so on.

The same can be said when people say Bitcoin addresses poverty. It is not Bitcoin. Bitcoin was used, though.

Reality is that it is not bitcoins fault that people are beaten for their coins, sure there are people who try to steal others bitcoins but that is not caused by bitcoin, there are people who are murdered for dollars every day as well and it is not even nearly same numbers, hell corporations sent soldiers to Iraq for Oil just so they could get richer and caused a whole nation to be disturbed and hundreds of thousands of people died so that some CEO's could get richer.

That is why we can't say that people beating others for their bitcoin is bitcoins fault, it is people's fault. What we are talking about here is the no censorship, no permission required, no unfair advantage to anyone, all equal world which bitcoin created, there is nothing like that in any other currency in the world and that is why it matters a lot, people liked gold because of that and now like bitcoin for the same reason.

That wording does seem to be laying it on a little thick, heh.  Bitcoin is a tool.  It's how you use it that determines its effect.  If you use it the right way, it does confer some benefits regarding privacy and security.  However, it doesn't grant total immunity from a determined attacker, whether it be a criminal or a totalitarian state.  If the authorities decide to lock you in a cell with no access to the outside world and keep you there for the rest of your life, your bitcoin holdings probably won't bring you a great deal of comfort.

For millions of people around the world, it's an escape hatch from tyranny—nothing less than freedom money.

https://reason.com/video/2021/02/05/bitcoin-is-protecting-human-rights-around-the-world/

Generally, bitcoin is just a tool. Bitcoin gives freedom to everyone irrespective of economic class. You should know bitcoin gives freedom to the masses to have control over their own money. The masses don't the need the banks or the government now to make transactions even across continents. They now determine the transaction fee unlike before when they have no choice but to accept what is being handed over to them by the banks.
I did follow the Nigerian Protest quite closely and I saw how the accounts of protesters were being frozen. bitcoin came to the rescue and helped those protesters fund their campaigns. This is the freedom one can enjoy with Bitcoin.
However, I do believe that bitcoin is just a tool and its use is only determine by who's using it, either for good or evil

Television 2021 becomes propaganda to broadcast news that is incompatible with the understanding in society regarding the point of view of bitcoin. because society really wants as
part of bitcoin presence. But television turns everything upside down and sees bitcoin as a threat, including the mainstream media which is always mixed with political elements in order to maintain authority as a form of truth. there needs to be a strong association to fight this problem. Human rights can only be upheld if media guidelines are judged fairly. and provide real news.

Yes, Bitcoin gives you all of this and more, financial freedom and the preservation of privacy in addition to transparency, governments and politicians like centralization, control and monitoring of everything, and Bitcoin does not give them that, so they hate Bitcoin.
Bitcoin is the beginning of the era of financial freedom, getting rid of the old system that is based on tyranny, confiscation of money, and imposing censorship on financial movements, and with the presence of Bitcoin, these autocrats will not be able to do anything.

While most of the bitcoin was purchased using centralized crypto exchanges from where the tracking of someone's wealth begins because they used to verify their KYC details on those centralized exchanges in the recent years. So early users took the advantage of being completely anonymous which is not possible nowadays with premium price than market prices.

If only there are tons of crypto facilities that can be used in everyday life like in groceries and paying bills without converting into fiat pr at least many atm machine to cashout without going or transferring in bank since in my country it’s still too hard to cashout due to many questions and suspicion of bank due to transactions from trading. Hopefully soon they will know how trading in crypto workd.

When talking about financial freedom because Bitcoin may be the context you mean by using Bitcoin, you are freed from the full influence and control of the Central Bank, but until now the development is that many countries still reject Bitcoin and even create their own country versions. If it is legalized, then it is only a commodity. Do you still think Bitcoin is that free?

The currency's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, set it to have an ultimate limit of 21 million. No one can ever print more.

Bitcoin transactions can't be stopped, and you don't need to reveal your name or address or telephone number to participate. You just need internet access.

This above is undeniably the real power of bitcoin over fiat. This is the freedom that is needed and that is why bitcoin is still here despite that some government try to pull it down but they can't kill the voice of the people, there citizens always find a way to keep adopting into the freedom they see.

Reality is that it is not bitcoins fault that people are beaten for their coins, sure there are people who try to steal others bitcoins but that is not caused by bitcoin, there are people who are murdered for dollars every day as well and it is not even nearly same numbers,

When somebody gets beaten and robbed for its bitcoins it's not bitcoin's fault, bitcoin is just a tool, the ones doing the crime are the ones at fault. When somebody sends money to a protester in Belarus somehow Bitcoin is protecting human rights, not the person who sent those bitcoins in the first place. I love to see how when it's used correctly it's treated as an entity with conscience and will of its own but when bad things happen it's just a tool. Reminds me of religion, and no wonder, there are some zealots here that would even start praying to it, as long as the value goes up it will soon be possible for BTC to turn water into wine and revive people.

Btw, I saw a reference to Myanmar, how BTC is helping there also.
I'm pretty curious how it can do this since the military has blocked internet access and I find it hard to believe that every citizen there has a satelite connection.

What people want? A freedom, security and a healthy, peaceful and enjoying life style this is the right we also want. And bitcoin gives us those all things.

Didn't knew that, is BTC low on calories?
Every day you learn something new.

But nowadays we have dozens of news channels and on top of that social media platforms are also quite active. Dishing out fake news nowadays work only among illiterate people. And Bitcoin represents another step towards eliminating government inspired fake news.

I can say about the BTC account based only on my experience. Yes, for me, BTC and the advent of cryptocurrencies in general made it possible to get an additional source of income and improve my life. Of course, these are not coordinated changes for the better, but to some extent they are. However, this does not mean that BTC and cryptocurrencies are being used by saviors around the world. No, this is not so, because not everyone is familiar with crypto at all. The big headlines about BTC are sometimes just dummy, I call it manipulation. You must understand that it will not work for everyone to do well, and each person must do something for their own success and solving problems. BTC and cryptocurrencies are just another tool for achieving goals and the fact that they are only used for good needs and good people. It's just that if you have problems, then certain actions are needed to solve them, and BTC and crypto may well help in this.

Bitcoin represents human will and it penetrates the financial barriers that governments create.  Over the years, countries have accused Bitcoin of being involved in money laundering, arms trafficking and a host of other crimes, but upon investigation and discovery it was the US dollar and the classical finance (the banking system)  it is the tool of the crime.
Bitcoin is more trusted than ever before and most clearly demonstrated that its value increases over time in spite of national rumors and bans.
I think Bitcoin is the product of the spirit of freedom, the will to cross borders and connect people.

I certainly agree about the importance of bitcoin for the population of our planet as a product of the spirit of freedom and the spirit of unification, but still I would not deny the reality of some negative aspects of the use of cryptocurrencies by different people with bad intentions ;) Although of course it is clear that all sorts of crimes involving the use of fiat currencies are incomparably greater due to the scale. On the other hand, such negativity should not be automatically linked to both fiat currencies and cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin or FIAT are both man-made currency and they represent labor and goods. Bitcoin is a store of value similar to gold and silver.
Money has no right or wrong, they are just a tools for people to use. So if you consider the morality of money, it's really zero. But if you consider the fairness in creating properly, not being manipulated, Bitcoin is created by computing devices, the Bitcoin network is decentralized and better than the state authority creating FIAT.

Protecting?
Please name in which of all those situations have the freedom and the human rights been protected?

Quote
In the past few months, Belarusian activists have used bitcoin to defy the regime by sending more than 3 million dollars of unstoppable money directly to striking workers, who then convert it locally to rubles in peer-to-peer marketplaces to feed their families as they protest the country's dictatorship.

Read anything about Belarus lately? Oh wait:
We've lost on the streets: Belarus opposition leader (https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20210220-we-ve-lost-on-the-streets-belarus-opposition-leader)

Quote
In Russia, the opposition politician Alexei Navalny has raised millions in bitcoin as Vladimir Putin maintains strict control over the traditional financial system. Putin can do a lot of things, but he can't freeze a bitcoin account.

What you say makes sense. Actually bitcoin isn't capable of protecting human's rights around the world, but it's a powerful tool to help those who are suffering in countries where human's rights aren't respected. It helps people to survive during these hard times. If it wasn't bitcoin, the conditions of many people would be much worse than it currently is.
It seems bitcoin is a very welcome palliative that might be putting adopters in their confort zone, like you said in Venezuela's case. But at same time we can't blame those people for not making the difference for their countries, as it's an effort which needs lots of people and most people in these countries are somehow conniving with tyrannical governments.

Anyone in the position to use Bitcoin probably already enjoys human rights that some people don't have...particularly muslims in concentration camps over in China. It's not like BTC is going to save the world. It provides economic freedom and decentralization, "human rights" has nothing to do with it. And no, I don't consider economic freedoms to be a "human right", more like a basic liberty.

Money has no right or wrong, they are just a tools for people to use.

I think bitcoin is not related to human rights. Like the statement above, bitcoin is like money, a tool for a human to buy, hold, or use as a safe haven. Maybe bitcoin gives anonymity to people who do not want other people to know how much money they had, and even the government does not know about that. But that does not mean that bitcoin protects human rights because whether you like it or not, we still live in a country with a government that will control all of its people. When people use bitcoin, they will have something that the government and the government do not control will not know about their money.

No inflation doesn't mean that Bitcoin protects human rights.  Because as you said, money is only a medium of exchange.  The concept of human rights here is not really protected by Bitcoin. If Bitcoin really protects human rights then it won't work that way right now.  Don't because of several things that intersect, it seems like it is a big influence.  Even though that is not the concept.

This has to be said a long time ago, and I agree with this, just support bitcoin and not become a fanatic of it, and there is a thin line between the two. I mean this is just an exaggeration of the things that bitcoin can do, maybe in the future we might see something more wacky than this claim. Maybe if bitcoin was used to fund relief for war-torn countries then maybe bitcoin really does help human rights.

So it goes like this... you need to dig a hole... you can use a shovel or excavator? You go hunting with arrows or with a sniper?

Learn about traditional currencies, for example about the dollar and euro, all others are alike! Then learn about crypto and find all the differences...

Why Bitcoin is protecting human rights around the world... simply because it doesn't care about your nationality, religion, the color of your eyes or skin! Without any prejudice, Bitcoin is here to deliver us a decentralized economy, based on mathematic and algorithms...

Who needs to protect human rights? You can say governments and laws, and they are doing some job, but not even close to what they need to do ... on the other side I think we all need to protect all of us! It's the next step of evolution... of course, we need a tool for that! And guess what will be our tool?!

I disagree, and I will cite the Article 23 from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to support my point.

2. Everyone, without any discrimination, has the right to equal pay for equal work.

This particular right is heavily violated in countries with authoritarian regimes. It's almost impossible to find a well-paid job without connections to those in power or without being a zealous supporter of the regime. We all know that Bitcoin can help with protecting this particular right.

Can you imagine that a person usually keeps too much money in the bank without being kept eye on by the main bank and the government? I have seen the bank lock a friend's account because he has more money than the average person in his account. What do you think when the bank does the same to you. It is their supervision and makes us uncomfortable. Bitcoin can help me keep my money as much as I want and no one can use it outside of me.
Bitcoin is very resistant to inflation and is worth increasing over time.

especially on this case below:

Although there's no totally freedom anywhere or anyplace in the world but if you judge base on the bitcoin potential, concept with it creation it does related to human rights which is the major reason some government detest in the first place and that'ss why a lot of communism country don't legalize it. Besides, even alot of politician confirm Bitcoin to be people liberation from the government.

I know examples could be always examples and none is wrong in its way. But this is as wrong as it gets for an example, arrow and sniper? Really? If you want to give an example for, it could be this itself, without even giving any other example.

Would you rather live in a world where all the financial decisions are made by capitalists who are trying to get as rich as possible without caring about what is going to happen to other people? Or would you rather live in a fair world where everyone has the equal chances to make money?

Because that is what it is with bitcoin, that 21 million limit is something that everyone should care about, and a lot, because in the real world since rich people want more money they print more money and they end up not spending that money, so now you live in an economy that constantly grows but that growth always goes to rich and that inflation is paid by poor.

Bitcoin maximalists are the definition of cringe. Did you know bitcoin was invented to save mankind from political oppression, censorship, poverty, and dozens of other threats?  At least, that's what they'd have you believe even though literally none of that is true.  The retcon of bitcoin's origin story is too much.

Seriously though, these types of people needs to calm their tits down and try to get some fresh air and sunlight because they clearly lack some social interactions and they have to understand that we are on a Kardashev scale, a Primitive Civilization which means that our technologies still faces limitations and bitcoin is not exempted from that limitations.

I'd have to agree. Sometimes I tend to think these maxis are treating Bitcoin a lot more than it actually is. Bitcoin is great; no question about it. But the moment it is being treated as a kind of a religion, everything makes no more sense already. The moment a fan cannot see anything wrong with Bitcoin whatsoever, things are already becoming fallacious.

You are not making any progress with a statement like that, you are not helping anyone neither and at least bitcoin maximalists are providing their opinion. If you are trying to say that it's not helping human rights around the world, you might as well just state why you think that it's wrong and why you think that it's not protecting human rights, that way it will be a discussion and people can respond to your response and so forth and it will go on like that.

However when you just go "lol, these idiots" and nothing more, you are not providing anything to discussion. I am full on support of bitcoin and a total maximalist and I believe human rights are not something you have to take as a whole, we are talking about certain parts of human rights, and bitcoin did improved on some failures of fiat currency and made it decentralized so I would say it did protect certain parts of human rights if you ask me.

Maybe what OP is trying to point out is that sometimes some people in the bitcoin community are exaggerating bitcoin's capability as a cryptocurrency to the point that they look like they are trying to say that bitcoin is the solution to every problem when it isn't really the truth. Isn't @jaysabi also stating his/her opinion about these people?

Bitcoin maximalists are the definition of cringe. Did you know bitcoin was invented to save mankind from political oppression, censorship, poverty, and dozens of other threats?

I consider myself a bitcoin maximalist, and I was one of the critics of this way of portraying bitcoin, actually, if you look strictly at topics that tend to portray BTC as the saviors of x problem just based on my post there I would look more like a hater than an adopter. In my time on this forum, I've started to feel that there two other groups driven by different reasons that try to portray bitcoin as the one cure for all.
One of them is the ones that see only the price, for them every mention of bitcoin, no matter how hilarious means money, any critic means less, they act like cultists wanting to strangle you, someone talks bout the high fees? Blasphemy!
The other one is driven by hate, they don't actually love the idea of bitcoin and the gains from it but they hate so much the current world they would support any idea that brings an end to it, I consider them far more dangerous than bitcoin haters, these are the guys who will turn against you once abetter way to collapse the world and bring their so much awaited apocalypse pops up at the horizon.

Be careful what you say about them because they are going to attack you definitely and they do not want their belief challenged even in the most healthy way of discussing the short comings of their one true beloved cryptocurrency that is Bitcoin, someday we will come to a time when bitcoin becomes like Jesus Christ because of these bitcoin absurdist/maximalist.

This is when forum ranks start to matter  ;D
I have often thought how many times I would have been virtually hanged on this forum if I would have written many of the things I posted from a newbie account. Probably only my idea on the electricity consumption would have gotten me slapped around a few hundred times.

You are not making any progress with a statement like that, you are not helping anyone neither and at least bitcoin maximalists are providing their opinion. I'm going to do this in his place. What rights has BTC (alone) protected?
The human rights in Belarus? Read the news! The human rights in HK? Not so much from what I've seen.
If you think it has done so, how it has managed to achieve it? By people getting helped to buy food? Nice and money transfers from the ones willing to help to those that need were indeed made easier via btc,  but that's not protecting human rights, it's helping people survive.

As I said it before, stop treating it as a self-conscious entity and more like the tool that it is.

I'm interested on how Bitcoin will do this part...

Well, I'll try to explain what I mean. If you have some valuable skills and can't find a good paid job at home, you can work for foreign companies via the Internet(leaving your home country is not an option for many residents of authoritarian countries). But they can't pay you in your local currency, while receiving USD or EURO can be a problem for you. For example, in Soviet Union dealing in foreign currency was punishable with up to 8 years in prison. Right now non-governmental exchanges are banned in Iran, so people are forced to exchange according to official rate, which is almost 2 times lower than real rate. Until recently it was illegal to posses US dollars in Cuba; Venezuelan government attempted to ban USD not so long ago; Zimbabwe banned foreign currencies at some point recently ... and I'm sure there are more such countries, but there's very little info on them on the web. Also, in many poor countries, even though USD and EURO are not banned there, people have credit cards which are not activated for international usage, or don't have them at all. ... But anyone can create a Bitcoin wallet and receive payments to it.

Maybe in some way BTC did it or not. But truly the biggest companies should have a focus on those people who are in financially critical condition. There are many needy communities and they don't get any help. Like BTC many other sectors should have come in front to make the earth beautiful.

I believe that the use of Bitcoin will pursue completely different goals and it is unlikely that Bitcoin will help the poor become richer. But with regard to independence from the banking system and state control of each user, including secure financial transfers, Bitcoin and other decentralized cryptocurrencies were created for this.

BTC had helped a lot in making things possible especially for the unbanked.  We've read the reports of fundings for the poor and it makes BTC good for humanity regardless of whether the poor can afford to invest.

Apparently because its a freedom money it can also be used in bad ways. Although I have not read the real proof that its used for terrorism, it might just be true for these people knows how to use technology to hide what they are doing.

Totally agree. Bitcoin after all is just a tool of humans, no more no less. In order to protect human rights, only humans themselves are responsible for doing such big noble things, and they use bitcoin for progress.

Personally, even our world has such innovations, the current situation remains unchanged, or only minimum efforts are made to make the world a better place. We still have racism, human rights collapse, shitty politics, protest for liberty, civil wars in Africa. We are taught and trained to become a part of big labor forces and people keep saying it is a privilege to have a job, to manufacture products, and serve the whole world. Nevertheless, they never or only have a slight mention about morality. Money is dignified in this modern world driving people crazy, make their vision obscure, and turn their hearts into cold ices

Thus, do not morally give prominence to bitcoin. Human is such a selfish creature

The existence of bitcoin aids humanity in many ways but it most likely give everyone the freedom from being under the control of the government. As we can remember, bitcoin is a decentralized currency, not only it is not under the government but it is also an effective and plausible way to escape poverty if ever you become successful with your investments on it. It freed us from the taxes that are mostly being pocketed by corrupt politicians and their opression on how we should earn and make money. Nevertheless, it will still depend on you on how will bitcoin function in your life.

If you take Bitcoin the word as a placeholder for the whole revolutionary movement, I believe that Bitcoin can indeed play a role in making the poor become richer. The technology can solve coordination problems across boarders. Take an African guy who has great programming skills. How would you pay him when he would like to help out at even favorable wages? You could set up smart contracts and use pay per milestone agreements. There are many examples that Bitcoin could help solve coordination problems and cooperation barriers.

But along with this freedom given by Bitcoin people who have malicious intent are also using this for their own benefits like using it on money laundering and such that is why the government is very concerned about it. Due to Bitcoins decentralization, we can choose whatever we want to do with it without being tracked by authorities but we must not abuse this anonymity that is why some countries having a second thought of accepting it. Anyway, it's just a piece of advice but I hope we use Bitcoin in a way that could not harm others.

That is pretty cool. With bitcoins we have the chance to help a lot of different people all around the world. Especially if we can help protests and people who are being targeted by the government, we have a way to give money without the chance of the officials to intercept that money. Financial institutions such as western union or paypal are controlled by the government. We need to use crypto currencies to go around such limitations.

Banks have the power to suppress movements or even cut ties with donators with just a few buttons. I think it happened to Wikipedia as well. Bitcoin is a way to organize and donate without any interference from the powerful banking system. That's why the importance of a digital currency that is fully decentralized should and must not be underestimated ever.

There is no correspondence between bitcoin and the human rights. The only thing I see is that human becomes greedier and more dreaming than ever. They believe that they can be rich in a short amount of time and forget how other people are suffering in pain and loss. In Myanmar, army has taken over the government and shoot at protesters. In middle east, Israel is shooting innocent people because Palestine keeps rocketing their area. And India, such a pathetic country which faces the highest increase rate of covid infection

Yes, this is exactly what I was saying. Bitcoin was not invented to protect human rights or achieve any other noble goal people assign to it. It was just an experiment in immutable digital currency that has arguably become far larger than anyone in the early days ever though it would, or those early pioneers would have held their stacks of bitcoin. The maximalists trying to paint it as the savior of humanity are ridiculous.

How do you know the early pioneers don't have their coins anymore or are you talking about Satoshi's wallets? If you are talking about other wallets and you as a pioneer prefer to pretend you don't hold as much anymore, you could just go to an exchange and get rid of any traces leading to you.

Bitcoin is decentralized. There is no national government's restriction and supervision and they cannot control the Bitcoin we own. We can freely manage our own finances to protect our privacy. We only need to have an electronic wallet to conduct transactions in the Bitcoin network system.
Bitcoin gives everyone freedom, provides us with financial freedom, privacy protection and transparency, and truly protects human rights around the world.

Bitcoin allows you to fully control your own funds, return true financial freedom to the people, and truly realize the meaning of financial freedom.
With Bitcoin, banks and governments will not be able to freeze your funds or choose who can or be paid. It can be traded at any time all over the world through the Bitcoin network system. Bitcoin provides us with more choices and brings us many benefits.
