I'm new to bitcoin and would like to find a miner to buy from directly rather than paying fees to an exchange and trusting them with private personally identifiable information.  I'm transitioning from gold investing into our new crypto world.

What exactly do you want to achieve do you want an exchange that doesn't need KYC or you are planning to buy/sell used miner directly to people(P2P)?

Or it seems that you want to buy bitcoins directly from people who mined bitcoin?
It's likely you want to rent their miner to get bitcoin?

Base on your title you are planning to sell bitcoin to the consumer means you are looking for P2P?

If you are looking for p2p you can check Bisq they don't require KYC check this link https://bisq.network/

Yeah, I was just hoping to start buying directly from someone who mined the BTC, to buy & hold long term, not to resell.

It doesn't really make any difference if you are buying from a miner or a trader because Bitcoins would be the same :P if you aren't comfortable with sharing your KYC information in a centralized exchange, try P2P sites like localbitcoins where you can buy the coins from any reputable trader making the risk of fraud a lot lesser. Even if a miner sells their Bitcoins to you, it doesn't bring any additional advantages, in terms of transactional fee or etc. Or maybe there's something I couldn't understand and missing from what you are trying to imply in your post?...
