Title: donate with Bitcoin
Post by: macson on March 23, 2021, 11:51:04 AM
jack Dorsey has finished his first tweet NFT auction and raised a sizable fund.
https://i.imgur.com/439LPC7.png
https://v.cent.co/tweet/20

he then converted it to Bitcoin and donated on GiveDirectly
https://i.imgur.com/kesf08Z.png
https://twitter.com/GiveDirectly/status/1374105122624565253

we all know GiveDirectly is focused on sending aid to African countries.

African countries should thank Bitcoin and Jack Dorsey, and Nigeria should get rid rules of banned Bitcoin.

world governments as well as central banks must see this as a crushing blow. where bitcoin shifted all sectors for the sake of humanitarian mission. I am very grateful to GiveDirectly, because he has proven that bitcoin is able to provide convenience in overcoming crises, especially in the economic sector.
By doing so we have been given a picture of the future, sending and transacting bitcoin across countries has provided access that is much faster, effective and efficient.

While I really really don't get the digital art NFT craze(it's either really stupid, or I'm the one that's stupid), at least some African and U.S. people are going to get some help I guess? Jack totally got a lot of hate from the Twitter Bitcoin maximalists for that move though.

...

this is one of the biggest donations with Bitcoin IMO...
One of the crazy thing IMO is that the auction that was held by Jack was able to close at a fantastic value. For those who bought it, I don't know what the benefits of buying it were 'lol', or whether he just wanted to make his reputation skyrocket by becoming the owner of Jack's first tweets.

Again, you're not stupid, you have the right to your thoughts ;D.  NFT is new fun for some.  btw, why don't you take part in the NFT contest held by theymos, I think it's very entertaining https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5327661.0

Maybe cash? I doubt it that he's going to use bitcoin for donating it. As they've announced with their Tesla, they're eager to keep their sales paid with bitcoin.

But still he can give some showcase and advertisement whenever he's going to do that and put on the side that he did it with the help of the Dogecoin community.  :P

With this news, I believed this will bring positive impact to African people who've devotedly adopt bitcoin despite of the fact on banning. Let's wait and see how this plans could result in the future, because this amount of donation was too big and I hope this will help this country recover from poverty so their people generates sustainable income through it.

It seems like your words make sense, it is very unlikely that elon will use Bitcoin or Doge because he is determined to become a Hodler. (i guess) :D

Quote
Poverty is a Lack of Hope
Poor people often lack hope for the future because they live in a lie. The lie of poverty, that is reinforced day-in and day-out is, “You don’t matter. You’re worthless.”

Whether in South Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda or Zambia, the poor in the world's poorest countries live in hopelessness...every day, in multiple ways.

Imagine not being able to provide enough food for your children or pay for a hospital visit when a child is sick or injured. Imagine the guilt, grief, and despair.

The poor are helpless in the face of war and natural disasters. When natural disasters and conflict occur, the poor suffer the most. They are unprotected, uncared for, and unnoticed.

Overcrowded urban areas where millions of the poor live in slum conditions increase the risk of disease and increase the death toll when conflict and war erupt or an environmental disaster hits.

Poverty often causes the poor to put pressure on their environment, and in turn the environment contributes to the suffering the poor endure.
source.... (https://www.compassion.com/poverty/poverty-in-africa.htm)

no matter how much money is donated to Africa i'm skeptical it will make it rise because poverty is their government program there. i've heard that Africa is a continent that is rich and has tremendous potential, it's just that greed is a disease that is hard to eradicate from there.  but we must not give up hope.

I think most probably in all chances it will be crypto because Elon is throwing surprise tweets regarding it for weeks. But there is a chance that he can just donate in fiat as well and the "details" he's going to post maybe of something else and not necessarily a surprise which should be waited by pro-crypto optimists. Whatever is happening, indeed, lots of people are getting helped and it's surely a good thing.

If only I have the talent in being a digital artist, I could have made lots of art, converted to NFT and if sold, I could donate BTC to some nonprofit organizations, charities, etc., especially those organizations who are on a mission to help fight COVID-19. NFTs are profitable nowadays, but it's also a bubble. I usually head over to Cryptoslam website to check which NFT collectible websites are worth for me to buy and collect.

well all will have a plan as you say, but whether our ambitions as human beings are never enough and often do not even realize that of our total income 2.5% is the right of the poor pakir. We don't have to talk about the extraordinary work above, but we must often reflect on what we have given to people out there so that it can help ease the burden when a pandemic hits?
isn't that much more than anything? Suppose your income for 1 month, is there anything you donate to them out there?

This is one of the best case of NFT usage. We can easily raise good money through NFT as they are in demand and use that money in helping the poor and needy ones. I hope Elon musk and other famous personalities can raise funds by selling their NTF tweets and help the mankind.

You know what still baffles me is the fact that Jack Dorsey donated in bitcoin. I knownitnisnto show support for the technology and also to encourage global adoption but why not look at it from the perspective of the Bitcoin network and its price appreciation over the years. I think its not wise a decision to donate bitcoin as it has potentials of been turn trillions in the near future and then it will not be said that you donated trillions but just the small fraction you did today.

Jack support to Africa through fund with Bitcoin is not a new thing and I just love his boldness towards it. This is not the first time he has been sending Bitcoin to Africa, he has done it previously to Nigeria during the time of the speakout against police brutality.

As for the last part of your post, I feel Nigeria CBN will lift their restrictions on Bitcoin one day . Since they claimed that Bitcoin is not banned in Nigeria but in Nigeria banking activities... I personally feel their action was a quick one considering they are following the trend of India and China.

I can say that's the advantage of Bitcoin legalization. Where Bitcoin isn't accepted, Bitcoin donators wouldn't donate there. It's a big help for Africa and it would be a lesson for a few developing countries where Bitcoin is banned. It's just not a donation, I can say this is the way of Bitcoin adaption, doesn't matter how Jack Dorsey raises the funds. And I agree with OP that Nigeria had taken the wrong decision by banning Bitcoin. Who knows if they would get such as donations from Big donators.

Although givedirectly is known for its charity work as sending the cash directly to the ones in need I'm sorry to say that the Bitcoin Jack Dorsey donated will be converted to USD as explained in their page.

1. Bitcoin.

We now accept donations in bitcoin! You can donate bitcoin through our donate page. Bitcoins are automatically converted into USD and transferred into our US bank account. You’ll receive an auto-generated receipt from Coinbase and a separate tax receipt from us.

Although I would like to see how they will be using Bitcoin I believe that the ones in need won't have the basic knowledge on how to use nor have the convenience to convert it to useful fiat currency that is why I think them receiving straight cash is something that will be more useful and more convenient for them.

Oh how many of us wish that we have that same monetary power to change the world in the form of charity. Donating in bitcoin is one of the coolest, I should say, ways to help organizations get the funding that they need for their operations. I would assume that many of the donators used cryptocurrency but most of all, fiat money to send their donations. I am sure there are people who still have tons and tons of Bitcoin with them, willing to spend to charitable organizations.

It's normal, necessary and I guess that's the only way to support those beneficiaries especially on such places where bitcoin isn't adopted yet. Imagine they will open a crypto account/exchange first, taking kyc just to convert their bitcoin to fiat if the charity org give bitcoin directly to the beneficiaries.

As for now, that's the only way.

Nigeria is one of the African country that is far above receiving aids from international bodies. Thats because, they are more than capable of catering for itself or citizens. Nigeria has got a lot of natural and human resources to fit in the various aspects of production but then, corruption is there major problem and hindrance towards a true federalism.

When African countries with lots of economic challenges like Nigeria puts out a ban on crypto, I wonder what is the future of such nation or the use of the ban. It almost feels as though they are not ready to solve there problems. Well, this is all in the hands of the leaders. They are the master mind of all these and they alone knows how to exploit it to there advantage until the people at the bottom gets smart.

As you know now the whole world suffers a very dangerous pandemic that is Covid19. It has lived the lives of many people around the world. An extremely scary spread, pandemic not only affects the lives but also exhausted the economy. So Bitcoin donations are really a very good idea. It passes every country to monetary and fast conversion easily. Also help people overcome this difficulty. Making charity makes you live happier.

The donation probably gonna be spread out across the continent and most of the government not gonna give a damn therefore having a really small chance of influencing political decision of that specific country not to mention after the donation received they gonna immediately convert it to paper money, it's not like they gonna hand out the donation in form of bitcoin anyway but it's gonna help many people for sure.

This is super wonderful. Thanks to Jack who donated such huge amount of bitcoin to charity cause and GiveDirectly whose sole aim is providing aid for African countries.
This is superb representation of what the future holds for bitcoin. How that it can be used for transactions across countries and continents. Now, one understands better the power bitcoin has given to the masses by giving them control over their money. One can guess how much of taxes, transaction fees and transaction time it would have taken if such amount of money were to be sent in fiat.

It's a good initiative for bitcoin, donation is a social work that can introduce it positively with the people who don't know about it and those people who think it wrong. Bitcoin should continue this type of work, especially in this pandemic. The real hero is those who help needy people in their bad time not caring people love their or not.

if all countries in the world have people who donated a little bit of their Bitcoin to people in distress then this world would be beautiful.  very confident that in the future there will be many people who donate with Bitcoin & other altcoins too.  i always hope that any African country that does not like Bitcoin will soon realize that Bitcoin is a friend, not an enemy.

Donation isnt something that could be forced off but come to think that donation activity or other things related to it is already happening but only in fiat form.
It doesnt matter if its crypto or fiat as long it is really going for the same cause then that would really counts. Poverty is something that can be solved
out even all of people will tend to make up a donation but it is really much a better step rather than having nothing at all.
There are people who are really in need or on a hard situation and this is in fact the reality.

What a large-hearted person! This is the first time I've heard about Jack, and it shocks me that he has more than 8 million followers. Such man can make a great impact on the crypto market. Africa needs more people like him to become a large and developed continent. People focus too much on money, and they have forgotten that there are many people who are able to buy themselves daily meals. You can see that charity projects tend to have the least awareness from the community

Well, since blockchain is transparency and pseudo-anonymous, it would be even nicer if he reveals his transaction ID. That's just my opinion with no irritation

but it's also true that you say not many people know how to use bitcoin and exchange it to usdt I think by giving a donation in the form of USDT it will be more efficient

You are not alone, a great deal of people do not really get what's happening with NFTs and it seems to me that we're going to see a massive crash in that market during the next weeks or months as it is impossible to keep the demand going for something that doesn't really give you any rights over the digital works that you are supposedly buying, however this is good news, bitcoin can be used to give frictionless donations to institutions that will actually use the money to help those in need and not use most of those resources just to keep that organization alive.

But apparently they are not taking any move even if there's good effect on our lives if we adopt bitcoin and for sure they doesn't want to get out numbered by it since there fiat system well get affected if they adopt bitcoin at this state. Maybe this kind of thinking will not became real(hopefully I'm wrong with this) since if they do possibly they will just take it as reserve or second option if there's no other choice especially if there's an economic crisis.

Dorsey is big Bitcoin supporter and he is also running Bitcoin node as mentioned by him in one of his tweet.Recently he auctioned his first tweet which was sold for $2.5 million and all the money was donated to Charity group which is really interesting and appreciable move on his part.Governments should also recognise these types of news instead of bringing only illicit activities associated with Bitcoin into limelight. The NFT owner might not be able to use tweet in effective way but it became a cause for some progressive work in underdeveloped regions of Africa. So we need to promote such causes and this will eventually help Bitcoin adoption at mass scale.
