Title: Ripple Legal Victory vs. SEC as Judge Grants Its Motion to Compel Discovery
Post by: bbc.reporter on April 07, 2021, 04:45:04 AM
Help me understand this hehe. If Ripple wins this case and was proven and declared that XRP is similar to Bitcoin and Ethereum, did the court just declared something technically centralized as decentralized? Will the courts be the decision makers on what is decentralized in future cases? I shake my head. There might not be a need for real decentralized cryptcocoins hehehehehe.

As reported by U.Today, Ripple Labs, CEO Brad Garlinghouse and co-founder Chris Larsen filed the joint motion to compel on March 15, accusing the SEC of withholding evidence. The company's lawyers assert that XRP is similar to Bitcoin and Ethereum.

However, the regulator claimed that the documents were not relevant to the case since the aforementioned cryptocurrencies are fundamentally different.

Ripple will not scrutinize the regulator's minutes or memos to find any mentions that could bolster its case.

There will be many questions that can be answered once there can be finality in this case lodged on by SEC against XRP. However, winning the case will not mean anything to the question of decentralization. I think we are already aware that XRP is not decentralized, unless they will decide to change its foundational nature after the case is settled, of course. The claim that is similar to Bitcoin or Ethereum can be touching on the fact that is not a security in nature because if it is proven that it is then it can have a big problem.

@DapanasFruit. It might not be a question of decentralization, however, it might be a question if decentralization is really needed if the government can treat and consider a centralized cryptocoin as something similar to a decentralized cryptocoin. All of this burning of energy for the hashrate for proof of work can be considered useless and really become a waste.
