Title: @JohnnyLVC - Abuse and violation of the forum's good practices
Post by: decodx on April 07, 2021, 12:57:46 PM
I just noticed something in the Off-topic board that I feel deserves special attention from the moderators.
In the last hour, user JohnnyLVC (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;threads;u=2002039) has created as many as 16 new threads with recurring topic with the intention of promoting links to his personal website (presumably). I realized the futility of reporting all of his posts to the moderator after I began doing so. Instead, I decided to open this topic for moderators to review and decide on appropriate measures.

An example of one of his posts:
Free File fits everyone’s budget, if there are any other queries that you need help with you can always contact your local tax relief firm (https://usataxsettlement.com/) and get yourself professional assistance.

Isn't this kind of conduct and blatant violation of forum rules worthy of a tougher punishment, such as a permanent ban, rather than only deleting spam posts?

He's banned. Guess it's a temp ban though

Most of his recent posts are in off-topic, strange! What's in there LOL
And it seems he is posting (https://archive.is/F6JNa) one post each minute. Maybe using a bot.

He is one of those who is engaged in restoring accounts on the forum. Therefore, it has access to such information.

FYI: The humans handling the new account recoveries system which was implemented late last year are a company that Cyrus created called Cryptios (https://cryptios.com/). alanst, 3dOOm, and Rizzrack -- the "mysterious newbies" who some people noticed -- are three of their employees. They've been doing a great job.

Although Cyrus created the company with bitcointalk.org in mind as their first customer, they are accepting additional customers. Their main specialization right now is high-security, social-engineering-proof customer support & community moderation.

@decodx
You don't have to report each and every post/thread of that user. If they all break the same rule, you can just report one, and in the feedback you write something like:

This user has created 16 low-quality threads within 2 hours. All of them are spam promoting his own website. Please check his post history and delete all threads created on (date and time the threads were created here).

From your report admins will be able to see that his only goal is to promote some website and delete all posts were rules were broken.

Thanks Pmalek, that's what I did.

I have opened this topic so that I can explain better and refer to it when I report to the moderator. I guess it helped because his posts were removed shortly thereafter.

In case you have some questions about spammers, not sure what to do or you just wanna report some suspicious behavior, you can also use : [CLUB] The SpamBusters! Busting rule-breakers constantly (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4720640.0). Thread is maybe  not as active as it used to be, but plenty of experienced spambusters there that can help you.

Thank you so much, Rikafip. I had seen the thread before, but I didn't do a thorough investigation into what it is all about.
I thought it was just for club members.  :D

Haha I thought the same thing when I saw that thread for the first time, and I was reluctant to post there for some time as I thought that first I have to be accepted in the Spambusters club. But then I realized that it's not so strict and that I can report my findings there or ask for an advice/help, without being an official part of the club.
