Title: Help for unconfirmed transaction on electrum wallet
Post by: dny18 on April 14, 2021, 09:08:21 AM
Hello to everyone,
I have read some topics, but I still don't have very clear ideas. Yesterday I open a old electrum wallet (3.3.8) to send a little bitcoin part to other wallet, but due to an error in entering fee the transaction is unconfirmed.

Which is the best solution to unlock it?

Thank you

Transaction unconfirmed means the transaction has been broadcasted already, but only remain miners to include it in a block. It is 10 minutes on average if you use high fee, but using lower fee will make it take longer before confirmation. The lower the fee the longer it will take before it will be confirmed.

Try to upgrade to the latest version on electrum.org and verify the signature. Do not update through any popup on your electrum wallet.

The fee were set on 5sat/bytes, is it possible that the transaction will never be executed?

Thank you

First, you should not use old Electrum version 3 and better update to latest version 4.1.2 from official Electrum website.

Second, there is nothing to unlock here, but you can can read THIS guide (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5327378.0) for canceling your transaction or changing your fee.

Always check Bitcoin mempool (https://mempool.space/) before sending any transaction, and now 5sat/bytes you used is not enough for confirmation so you can either wait for weekend or use higher fee.

Help you how exactly?
I see you have Replace by Fee enabled and if you followed the guide I posted and you want to pay higher fees now, you can do it manually using some transaction fee calculators and entering number of inputs and outputs.
Jameson Lopp website (https://jlopp.github.io/bitcoin-transaction-size-calculator/), Bitcoin Ops (https://bitcoinops.org/en/tools/calc-size/) or ByBitcoinWorldwide (https://www.buybitcoinworldwide.com/fee-calculator/).
For your 234 bytes that should be around 87 Sat/Byte fee currently if you want fast confirmation, not cheat at all and much more than 5 Sat/Byte you used.

If the addresses are okay, you can Sign and Broadcast it. It increases your fee to 90 sat/byte ($12) and should confirm soon.

Since you're spending old Bitcoin, you may be interested to know you own Forkcoins (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2836875.msg56016704#msg56016704).

I try testing with very low fee
It is take time many days but the end still can update to confirm status (too long)

there is no way we can predict how long it would take for a transaction that is paying low fee to confirm. it could be next day or it could be a year from now because it depends on the other transactions situation. for example the price could continue rising every day from now until another month each day going up 5% and it increases the fees and the low paying transaction won't confirm any time soon.

Quote
try use accelerate free service may be feel better
accelerator services usually need a fee too which is higher than what you would have paid if you used RBF and bumped the fee yourself. and the rest of the "free" ones are scam.

edit: i forgot about ViaBTC, ranochigo is right that is an exception.

Only exception being ViaBTC but even that has a 100 TX per hour limit and a minimum of 10sat/byte. The confirmation for that would probably only come when they mine a block.

OP's transaction has 41 confirmations already. Problem solved.
