You write that you are new to cryptocurrency. Therefore, while you do not understand what you will do, I would suggest not to risk it at all. Take the time to get information on what cryptocurrency you are going to invest in. Then learn how to buy it, how to store it, what wallets to use. There is actually a lot of information. You need to take your time to read and understand each step.
Otherwise, you run the risk of being caught by scammers who will promise you unprecedented profits, and end up deceiving you, as is usually the case with beginners.
Always remember that when investing your money, you must understand that this should be the amount that you are not afraid to lose.

Just be aware there is a possible option of fail. Any crypto can face an unforeseen price drop anytime.
Ask yourself how much of those 5k are you can afford to lose without putting yourself into financial troules. This should be your max amount.

As others post earlier, you need to be as much as careful as you can be. Since the crypto and not only BTC is rallying to all-time highs almost every day, the possibility of a drop is something that can happen. Still, it seems that the demand is much higher so if you want to invest, at least invest in BTC or in any other major (and old) coin. Watch out for any new coin/ token with some crazy hype and trade as much as you can afford. Good luck. 8)

Although life itself is full of risk and those who succeed are the risk takers, so, be careful about your move to invest into cryptocurrencies becasue is an industry full of potential risk. The advise i have for you is: if you can't risk the whole $5k then why not reduce the amount to start with lower amount - an amount you can easily overlook when at loss. Consider this advise to reduce the risk, thank.

Here's my advice: don't invest in anything other than BTC at first, don't be greedy and only put the money you can afford to lose in it.

Alts may be a tempting choice, especially when you see "DOGE IS GOING TO $1 SOON" memes and posts everywhere around. But tempting as they are, most of them only pump once every few years after which they lose significant value. Besides this, altcoin seasons are worst times to invest in alts anyeay - and we're in the middle of one.

Take it easy. Invest in BTC and be patient.

advice for new investors, you should first study the risks before actually getting inside....most investors who fail in crypto are only those who enter because of fomo.  $5k capital i think it would be great if you invest in Bitcoin.  but you can also follow other suggestions. (Investment is certainly full of risks, but if you are patient, the risk will-less)

You do not need to use all $5,000 to invest in crypto, especially if you are new and do not have proper knowledge or experience in crypto because that will be too risky for you.
I suggest you use $1,000 (this is a big amount you can use to invest in crypto, but using a lower amount will be recommended while you need to learn more about crypto to add more money to buy the coin for your investment).
Do not risk your money if that money will be used for your daily needs because you need to living and survive in this pandemic, and you need to prepare for something that you might get in the future.
But we can only suggest you and the rest will be up to you.

A beginner with a $5000 amount is quite large so don't use it all until you understand it.

Remember, first, you have to have capital from a young age by looking for experience on how to actually invest, even what we imagine is easy, not necessarily after we invest it will be like that because of the fact that when we are in the field we will find difficulties, where it is difficult to recover so for me, don't use all your money if new to crypto.

Many alts have been pumped in the DOGE example, you can buy in a trending atmosphere or look at other coins BTC, ETH, BNB etc. I think we will find out how beginners should learn from small money.
