Title: Fasting in Islam
Post by: DR MHM on April 18, 2021, 07:11:21 AM
Fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam. There is also a verse in the Quran that describes fasting for all Muslims who are mature and healthy  to do so for the full day(from sunrise to sunset). So Muslims fast as an act of worship, a chance to get closer to Allah.

Fasting in Ramadan is Farj for Muslims. Now it is Ramadan and we have a chance to get rid of the sins.If you are Muslim, keep fasting and pray to Allah. We should also pray for the pandemic situation of covid.

I am not Muslim but I respect all people who are strong enough physically & mentally to be able to fast & be strong not to fall into temptation of eating at the wrong times.

As-salamu alaykum

Regardless of whether someone is a Muslim or not, it has been proven that fasting does provide many benefits for humans. In addition to
a healthier body, fasting also makes our emotions more controlled. Even many doctors in the world recommend fasting for humans,
because it makes the body healthier. Especially in a pandemic situation like now, fasting means making people more economical in spending
money to buy food. Lots of articles on the internet that explain in more detail the benefits of fasting.

Ramadan teaches Muslims self-restraint and reminds them of the feelings of the impoverished.
Some studies have reported substantial weight loss, signs of dehydration, raised serum concentrations of uric acid and cholesterol, etc. during Ramadan. However, these changes are unlikely to have much effect on healthy individuals, because generations of Muslims have undertaken fasting year after year.

AFAIK, Ramadhan is not only about fasting it is also about helping other people. Intermittent fasting is good for health so it is also scientifically a reason to do it.

actually, fasting also has benefits for the health of the body. one of them is body detoxification. My friend who works as a doctor once said, When someone is fasting, our bodies perform a detoxification process (removing substances/toxins that are not needed by the body) optimally.

So, besides getting merit, fasting will also get health.
