Title: www.bitcoins.com
Post by: jlomo on April 18, 2021, 04:24:32 PM
Hello,
I have created in 2013 an account on bitcoins.com. Site does not exist anymore. I am sure I have created a wallet and I would like to know which site is replacing bitcoins.com.
I am certainly not the only one having registered there, but, maybe the only one having forgotten the site since years! Can somebody help me? Merci.

Unfortunately the last proper backup I've found on web archive (July 2014) was normal site https://web.archive.org/web/20140703025807/http://www.bitcoins.com/
and the next backups were already showing the domain for sale.

I didn't use this bitcoins.com, but I've found on the news a story about it: https://www.zdnet.com/article/bitcoins-com-on-auction-block-proceeds-go-to-former-mt-gox-investors/

This is the second similar story I see today. The other one I've seen is this:

need help, I lost my coin in 2010 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5331367.0)

It might just be a coincidence but better keep an eye just in case.

OP, as I said to the other guy, I think you'd better move forward and thing how to make money and buy or earn crypto nowadays.

You lost your bitcoin and must to accept the fact.

From this loss, you can take it as your practical lesson and learn about non custodial wallets. With non custodial wallets, you will have seeds or private keys of your bitcoin wallets. If you back up it well, save it secret and safely, you will recover your wallet and get access to your bitcoin anytime.

Something doesn't add up to me and I wanna make sure...

August 07, 2013 (https://web.archive.org/web/20130807225731/http://www.bitcoins.com/) sign up page says their service isn't available yet.

Quote
Please note that the website just launched and the services are not completely ready yet which was a way for ppl to buy bitcoins
After completion of your subscription, you will not be able to login, however
as soon as the service is available, we will send you a mail to inform you!

How do I get Bitcoins?
Here, of course!

Very soon you will be able to get Bitcoins at Bitcoins.com. If you have online banking, getting Bitcoins is easy. Simply signup for an account and we will email you when the service is complete.

However on Sept. 06, 2013 (https://web.archive.org/web/20130906003045/http://www.bitcoins.com/), they announced a revamp and referred to themselves as "your information source of everything about the new digital currency". The directory (https://web.archive.org/web/20140801000000*/http://www.bitcoins.com/directory) they made also didn't say anything about their service. I couldn't find anything about it anymore...

This makes me question if there was even a wallet/exchange released... op, did you create a wallet in their website or you downloaded a wallet off their website?

Interesting thing is bitcoin-qt (bitcoin core now) was linked in their homepage from sept 30, 2011 (https://web.archive.org/web/20110930165402/http://www.bitcoins.com/) until they revamped and moved it to their directory. If it is bitcoin-qt, you can recover your coins depending if you can find your wallet file (wallet.dat) and the state of it.

If you have not kept your private key or any encrypted form of it (wallet seed) in a safe place and you have access to it, then accessing that site will not change anything.
bitcoins.com site manages a database that cannot access your key, and if they can access your key, then it is likely that your coins were stolen.

old bitcoin wallet was using private key or random words enable you to access your account.
If you have the private key, you will be able to recover your money.
If you have random words then you will need help.
