Title: I think I now hate Republicans more than any other political affiliation.

They are just hopeless shells. You can't even call a good portion of them politically knowledgeable. At least leftists know what they want most of the time, at least there is a trace of morality. With Republicans, it's just railing against anything they don't prefer whether it be through racist xenophobia, war-mongering nationalistm or collectivist rhetoric about the poor not paying enough taxes. This unfortunately enables politicians to easily cater to their primal fears and build more destructive power around it.

I think we all can agree that Republicans are mostly stupid war mongers. I am proud to see that this forum is a mostly Republican-free-zone.

Here's the thing. Ron Paul is a Republican. So is Rand Paul. And Justin Amash. These are people taking back the Republican party. Sure the loudest, most obnoxious Republicans are those people who you highlight, but there are still many (including myself) that aren't part of this collective you describe. But I know, there are some dumb people out there (on every side). I once had a lady tell me she agreed 100% with Ron Paul and liked everything he said. However, she had to vote for Rick Perry because Ron Paul couldn't stand up straight. I like how that last guy's signature mentions his tea party affiliation, yet he hates Ron Paul.

They are not "taking it back." What they are doing is pushing an agenda of "low taxes/small state" but settling for "low taxes/large state financed by borrowing" and then they call anyone who disagrees with them a godless communist with terrorist gay pals.

Oddly, Americans vote for it.  My theory is that they have the votes of the demographic that lives off overdrafts/credit cards sewn up.

Did you read who I said was taking it back? They're the opposite of what you're talking about.

Ron Paul is exactly who I am talking about.  He talks "low taxes/small state" but he enables "low taxes/large state financed by borrowing."

How does he "enable low taxes/large state financed by borrowing"?

How does he "enable low taxes/large state financed by borrowing"?

He brings libertarians into the Republican camp where they vote for the likes of GWB.  He also votes for tax cuts that create the need to borrow.  If he has not suported Bush in 2000 and not voted for the Bush Tax Cuts, there wouldn't even be a deficit as Clinton/Gore ran a budget surplus.

I don't think Ron Paul had enough influence to bring much of anyone into the Republican camp when Bush ran--'00 or '04. Ron Paul supporters don't vote for just any Republican (he endorsed a third party candidate in 2008). And of course he supported tax cuts, but he also supports cutting spending which reduces the need to borrow. His budget plan includes both of those, balancing the budget in three years. If your complaint is that he hasn't been effective being 1/435 of the House of Representatives, then you're right. But if your argument is that he takes sides on issues to not reduce the size of government, then you need to check your sources.

There's a saying around here: "If you're not a socialist when you're young you're an idiot. And if you're not a conservative when you're old you're a failure!".

Replace socialist and conservative with left- and right wing.
I'm taking the easy way out. It's a saying. Don't read too much into it.

There's another saying. "Don't trust anyone over 30." I still believe that.
