Title: Bitcoin on TV?
Post by: Abiky on April 23, 2021, 06:26:02 PM
Bitcoin is well-known in cyberspace as it's often proclaimed to be the "currency of the Internet". There are a lot of education material about Bitcoin either in the form of a book, a web article, or a video tutorial. This is great since it helps spread awareness for Bitcoin across the Internet. But something else is missing for Bitcoin to reach a wider audience. It's yet the day where Bitcoin isn't promoted/marketed on TV. Seniors aren't connected to the Internet as much as young people are, but they are mostly watching TV. All it takes is for someone to air a commercial about Bitcoin on TV, and the pioneer cryptocurrency will be on a road towards non-stop growth in the mainstream world. Add to this a movie related about Bitcoin and you'll see demand rise like skyrocket in no time.

Do you think Bitcoin will be promoted across TV sometime in the future? If not, why? What do you think will happen after Bitcoin is marketed across major TV networks? Will it boost mainstream adoption? Or will it have no effect whatsoever? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. :)

Bitcoin gets mentioned on television from time to time, when there's crazy growth, it gets reported on news programs, it gets mentioned when criminals use it or when some interesting story happens, like someone losing or finding a lot of old coins. Also Bitcoin gets mentioned in movies and TV shows, or even educational programs. There are some good Bitcoin documentaries, I'm sure at least some of them have aired on some TV channel.

Old people are generally pretty bad with technology, and considering how unforgiving Bitcoin is, its better they stay away from it. Their computers are ridden with malware and they become victims of scammers very easily.

There's no need for bitcoin to be advertised on national TV in different countries because just what we're seeing the media covers it, that should be fine.
What's possible to happen in the future is that those crypto related services or businesses are the ones who would get exposure through TV to let the people know what they offer and they're also with us as an adopter that accepts payment in bitcoin.

I don't think bitcoin should be marketed on its own on TV.

It'd be up for something like an etf such as greyscale to invest in.

If you introduced bitcoin in ads its not very forgiving and, even if accepted by the TV channel, would probably be bad for its sentiment too due to it being kinda hard to understand how to use.

It's very hard to get something promoted to Televisions as companies behind the networks we see on our Televisions has to follow the guidelines, rules, and regulations of the authorities. (and that is our government)  For now, it would be too hard to convince the government as themselves aren't yet familiar with the cryptocurrency we enjoy today.

In fact, I don’t think Bitcoin being advertised on TV is actually a good idea.  Most often, people who stay watching TVs are the old generation and Bitcoin is impossible to be accepted by them as they don’t really know more about technologies.  It might, the best approach we had to take is to have promotions from the influencers through social media.  In that way, it would be widely accepted, at least.

How effective that influence person like Elon Musk mentioning Bitcoin, if there are hundreds like him, I don't think if Bitcoin will make another ATH each week.  :D

Television is still a thing? /s

No one's going to pay to explicitly promote it without a clear goal of making a ROI, and for that there are better places. But Bitcoin has been mentioned many times in various contexts, for the first time in Jan 2012:

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoin_references_in_TV_Shows

It stopped being updated in 2017 and I'm pretty sure that by now most people who watch TV shows have already heard of BTC.

I think that bitcoin is news on TV and it is not necessary to promote it. Because it can be a topic of diffusion in the field of technologies and entrepreneurship. In my city I listen to trends on bitcoin and cryptocurrencies on a local radio station. The interest to spread about bitcoin is present, I imagine that it happens anywhere in the world and with a variety of ideas.
Fortunately we have social networks that have been the perfect springboard for bitcoin to reach all parts of the world.

For sure it will because adoption is on the move and there are already some instances on where Bitcoin had been aired out even though on a very limited or short span of exposure

but still at least that it is already getting some recognition and attention even though on the slightest glimpse.Global recognition is increasing as the years passed specially now

that traditional institutions are already getting involved in this market which would really be the main catalyst and having advertisement on TV
would already become a typical stuff.

I have heard Bitcoin being mentioned in a television or in a movie but no one actually promoted it on air maybe they were aware of the risk that would bring to people and to their network also because anytime the government might take some precautionary measures because they think Bitcoin is just too risky to get people involved in without a vast knowledge.

I think it's best left in the internet than in the television since everyone could watch the television including the kids and that might led them to somewhere else instead of educating. These are just my opinion but somehow it may be true that's why TV networks doesn't involve their shows to any advertisement of a decentralized crypto currency.

Bitcoin has been mentioned a couple of times in a few shows on TV, the Simpsons for example has scenes where they talk about Satoshi Nakamoto and quite recently their predictions on what bitcoin's next price will be. So we can safely say that at this point Bitcoin, along with Satoshi Nakamoto has already gained traction not only in the mainstream media, but most probably even in popular culture, especially with the coming boom of NFT arts.

Bitcoin gets mentioned in news and most of the time they are mentioned in a skeptic or bad light which isn't bad in my opinion because it can help people with open mind to check it out and at the same time deter people that are close minded and only believes on what they saw on television. I think there is also an episode of The Falcon and Winter Soldier where they mentioned bitcoin as a payment for a bounty or something like that.

Not sure if such mentions of Bitcoin counts as promotion, but people are aware that it gets quite mentioned a lot in TV shows like The Simpsons.
They even know who Satoshi Nakamoto is, but I take that one as simply a gag.
For boosting adoption, not sure how much but it will at least get the curiosity of those who still don't know the existence of it just yet.

Few years back it is impossible to see anything related to cryptocurrency and Bitcoin. Now often we can see news associated with bitcoin on national Media. This itself a big growth in the cryptospace. Now common men and women have known about bitcoin. Years back if we ask to a person about cryptocurrencies, they don't have any information about it. Now scenario have changed with the increasing awareness and usage.

Regulations are asymmetrical across countries, and even if some entity was willing to promote bitcoin through adds (quite expensive to do so, and normally one would to this under ROI parameters, which tend to be more of a corporate vision), some regulators are setting-up the barriers to down-play the scope of these possible options.

Spain for example is quickly drafting regulation that will give the CNMV (Market Values National Commission) the ability to veto or demand changes in marketing campaigns related to Cryptocurrency (especially those targeting mass media). That was probably triggered by the fact that a given exchange (Bit2Me) flooded Madrid with posters promoting bitcoin (and of course their business). Others are more open minded. Grayscale had a national tv campaign running past summer in the States, although its mentions to bitcoin were diluted and restricted to the last frames (amongst other cryptocurrencies).

bitcoin so far does not require bitcoin TVs sailing on the internet and can fetch fantastic prices right now. I think TV will only cause the perception of many people about bitcoin because for some people who don't understand bitcoin they think bitcoin is strange. maybe TV does not need to broadcast about bitcoin, although there is a TV that broadcasts about bitcoin

In my country Indonesia Bitcoin entered national TV when Bitcoin was able to reach their new ATH and many investors switched to bitcoin. For one week the economic news always talks about bitcoin and other crypto currencies. This also provides an opportunity for cryptocurrency to be introduced to the general public who don't know about crypto.

However, bad news is also discussed about Bitcoin threatening the national currency or Bitcoin having too high a risk and such.

Bitcoin being on TV won't help faster adoption. Bitcoin adoption requires thorough research and takes time, not just appearing on TV and many adopting it.

Television is still a thing? /s

Nice! Probably the answer is yes, for older people! Younger generations are online... For us in the middle probably 50/50, some are more online, while there're people who still watch TV! I watch TV rarely, and when I do it's some movie or sports...

No one's going to pay to explicitly promote it without a clear goal of making a ROI, and for that there are better places. But Bitcoin has been mentioned many times in various contexts, for the first time in Jan 2012:

It was interesting in the beginning to see/hear about Bitcoin on TV! But now that's like a normal thing, they are mentioning Bitcoin almost every day, even in my country! I think 2017 was the year when we started to see more about Bitcoin everywhere, after that crazy ATH and drop after that! Almost everyone talked about it, almost everywhere! It was hard to keep track of that, so someone just stopped updating this wiki page. I guess Bitcoin is popular enough, and we will see/hear more about Bitcoin on TV and in other places!

It hard to tell but AFAIK, television will soon be wiped out and online streaming will replace this source of entertainment. In my country, despite of being determined as a third world country, online streaming like Netflix is becoming widespread in urban. And cryptocurrency is a common category on Netflix

Traditional television channel in my country sometimes mentions bitcoin but they only try to criticize it and warn people that they might lose their money to this new investing scheme. Television is no less than a tool of the government for propaganda

to be honest most of people who still watched tv nowadays are those people who aren't really into technology or senior and many people seem to consider these audiences not a potential crypto customer so maybe that's why none of people even the millionaires promoting bitcoin on tv and even without it bitcoin already getting publication from every media anyway. I think making promotion on tv itself is just a waste of money however I think company that based on cryptocurrency business could get crypto aired in tv but if it's an individual who gonna do that, I doubt there's gonna be any. It's most likely that if a person gonna make a tv advertisement they gonna advertise their own coin.

Sometimes I hear some dialog on TV series but not really an Ad where it's promoted by a company that is adopting BTC. There are sometimes news reports especially negative reports like scams through BTC which the anchor doesn't have any idea what BTC is.

There are finance channels that flash BTC though. Channels like these aren't really what interested everyone except us who had already invested in gold, silver and BTC. But if its flashes on primetime news and the positive side of BTC, it may really be a big price bump.

Internet and social media have taken over the TV era. It will not have much effect in bitcoin is introduced on national TV. What more important is that bitcoin should be known to everyone and social media is the best place to spread the knowledge.

Another thing to consider is that TV is mostly watched by elderly people while social media is used most by the youth. Bitcoin awareness should be targeted to youth via social media.

There are already some artist who already exposed with the crypto world so the bitcoin in national television is possible as well, there are already news regarding bitcoin so what more about television, television can hook up other people, mostly the old ones so if the crypto community will be advertised using a TV then it would be good to spread the news regarding bitcoin.

Everyone can use television and everyone can watch what's on television, it is a great platform to start the mass adoption of bitcoin.

I think this was already mentioned in some of the news outlets out there like Bloomberg, CNN, etc., if they are talking about the latest prices on stocks, cryptos, etc. On top of that, Bitcoin was already mentioned in some of the TV shows, movies and documentaries like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and so on.

There will come a time that we will be seeing more of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies live on television. It will come, but we don't know when exactly. Massive adoption is real!

That is certainly true, mate. A lot has changed since Bitcoin's inception in 2009. Marketing/promotion efforts from mainstream companies, businesses, and startups had a positive effect over Bitcoin's adoption in the mainstream world. Nowadays we have a lot of media related to Bitcoin and Blockchain tech. There's lots of information scattered throughout the web to help increase awareness among people worldwide.

As far as the TV is concerned, Bitcoin is already promoted throughout news outlets. What I find odd is that there are no commercials related to Bitcoin across major TV networks. Maybe government regulations have something to do with this? Whatever the case may be, Bitcoin is missing a portion of the world's population because of the lack of marketing/promotion on TV. Most people in third world countries don't have access to the Internet, but they do have access to a TV. At least, Bitcoin is still popular worldwide. As long as the network remains decentralized, nothing else matters. Just my thoughts ;D

The media on TV usually only follows hysteria, looking for ratings by raising current news. for a neutral one, it can have a positive impact, unfortunately many media report BTC with unsubstantiated rumors that cause bad effects. while local news in my country, usually entering economic channels, reports quite positive hl where cryptocurrency trading has been legalized, and there are several exchanges that have officially obtained legality, this is good for educating the public so they are not trapped by fake exchanges.

Bitcoin has been on TV and even in the news quite often, there is even a thread on it in the forum and I know I've seen it somewhere. Where the issue lies is how bitcoin is portrayed, what is being said about it. Bitcoin has never got a pleasing story, its always portrayed or have its stories centered 9n how much evil that could be done by using bitcoin. This is some of the reasons behind the hindrance of its growth but then, its basically amongst those who do not care to conduct there own research.

Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies not being openly promoted 8n media houses is another way to tell you that, the government actually own the media houses and as such, the message they pass to the public are limited and controlled by the government. So, no good news should we be expecting of bitcoin from media houses anytime soon. only records and statistics that might not matter much.

More people are using the internet now, I doubt a commercial will affect much.
Reviews, tutorials, video blogs, and social media posts are already helping a lot to boost the market of it.
We spend more on that field rather than the television. Ads are also popping out everywhere about Bitcoin and how to invest even though most of them are scam attempts.
Also who is going to pay if the effect will be questioning your background financially.

The government won't allow this kind of advertisement to be open on mainstream media such as television. The nature of the transaction made in BTC is unknown and can't be controlled by the government, which is why other countries banned BTC due to this fact. So mainstream adoption,is not possible for now unless your country is open-minded when it comes to cryptocurrency

Bitcoin is being advertised for free on TV for a long time. First, they release the information because Bitcoin's fluctuations in value are big risks. Next, they condemn multi-level projects that use Bitcoin, causing many people to lose money. And now they are reporting on financial institutions, means of payment, and banks accepting Bitcoin in their systems. Bitcoin is added to financial news because of its volatility in value.
It can be seen that Bitcoin has gone from an anonymous asset to a widely accepted mainstream one as we are seeing. That success is due to the free TV promotion.

Even Bitcoin is not being formally advertise into national television, there are still instances that it is being reported on news which many have come from the past that seems all negative because of the scammers but lately being casted on national television, many have been interviewed about doing trading success having cryptocurrency including Bitcoin as the main crypto they are rooting because many have provided proof of their success. Although Bitcoin is not totally being promoted through television, there are other sorts of platforms where Bitcoin is being mentioned and that is I think already enough for Bitcoin to be known by many people.

There are countries that are not fond of using social media but it's no doubt that social media is one of the biggest media today where almost everything happens.
News, series', television, movies, etc, and other stuff can be uploaded there. But bitcoin doesn't need to be advertised anymore, from the people of the community, we're the one who are doing it voluntarily through our networks.

In my country I have already seen Bitcoin in TV but most of the time Bitcoin was used to scam other people who have no knowledge about cryptocurrencies.

https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/news/nation/753370/26-victims-invest-over-p500-000-in-cryptocurrency-scam/story/

I know it does help promote Bitcoin. Like what you have said " Seniors aren't connected to the Internet", so when they see this on TV, they might have a bad image for Bitcoin already.
Maybe if the Government will promote it will surely become mainstream and more people will become interested to it.

Another news I have seen is a son of celebrity talks about Bitcoin but this time it is about someone that wants to have bitcoin at young age.

Bitcoin is being interested in and looking for the way to get rich. So Bitcoin is promoted on television is very normal. I watched Bitcoin news via TV waves. The media also offers many prospects for Bitcoin in the future. Maybe Bitcoin will be accepted and gradually everyone will see Bitcoin as utility coins.

If there is a crypto company that wants to advertise their company on television then we will probably see some advertisement. It'd be up for something like an etf such as greyscale to invest in.

If you introduced bitcoin in ads its not very forgiving and, even if accepted by the TV channel, would probably be bad for its sentiment too due to it being kinda hard to understand how to use.
I thought differently. Marketing is also a form of promoting for everyone to be widely known. In fact Bitcoin has appeared on television many times. It is a good thing that people will have the right understanding of Bitcoin and will think about it or not to join Bitcoin. Avoid finding people to imitate but the results failed. And we rest assured every news when taking a television correctly.
